Department of Statistics is organizing this workshop as a part of celebration of International Year of Statistics 2013 (IYS-2013) and Silver Jubilee of establishment of North Maharashtra University, Jalgaon (Year 2014-15). The purpose of the celebration of International Year of Statistics is to promote the importance of Statistics to the broader scientific community, business and government data users, the media, policy makers, employers, students and the general public. UNIVERSITY PROFILE: North Maharashtra University (NMU) established on 15th August 1990 under the Leadership of founder Vice-Chancellor Prof. N.K. Thakare, a well known Mathematician. University is located at Jalgaon, golden city of India which is 50 km away from the famous Ajanta and Ellora caves. The campus is spread over 650 acres of land on hilly terrain and it is developed with beautiful, spacious, academic, administrative and residential buildings that include Institute of Chemical Technology and 13 academic Schools with various Departments. University offers many fundamental, scientific and technological job oriented courses. Under the leadership of Honble Vice - Chancellor Prof. S. U. Meshram University has taken up the projects in various fields including innovative project Lab to Land which has scientific and social relevance. In near future University is also going to develop Bio-Diversity Park and Tribal Academy. DEPARTMENT OF STATISTICS: Department of Statistics functions under School of Mathematical Sciences. Department offers M.Sc.(Statistics) with specialization in Industrial Statistics, M.Phil./Ph.D. in Statistics. The thrust areas of research are: Industrial Statistics, Reliability Theory, Health Statistics, Actuarial Science, Discrete Data Analysis and Applied Statistics. TOPICS TO BE COVERED IN THE WORKSHOP: Role of Statistics Sampling and Sampling Distributions Descriptive Statistics Relation between Variables (Regression and Correlation) Tests of Hypothesis Design and Analysis of Experiments Analysis of Variance Probability Distributions (Binomial, Poisson, Normal, t, Chi-square, etc.) Practicals based on above topics Reporting Statistical Analysis in Research Papers/Reports/ Theses. WHO CAN ATTEND THIS WORKSHOP? M.E./M.Tech./M.Phil./Ph.D. Students, teachers and researchers from Science (Chemical/Physical/Environmental/Life /Mathematical), Engineering, Technology and Pharmacy. REGISTRATION: Number of participants is limited and admission will be purely on first come first served basis. A filled registration form is to be sent to the Convener, Mr. Manoj C. Patil along with a demand draft (DD) drawn in favor of Finance and Accounts Officer, North Maharashtra University, Jalgaon payable at Jalgaon towards the registration fee.
