Years back when I was a University student in a Chinese University, I happened to engage in discussion about Uighurs among ethnic

Han students and teachers. One of them asked "Why didn't General Wang kill them all in 1949?". Several others also up-voted. Later, a man, I suppose someone with authority within this online community which is made up of students and scholars from elite Chinese Universities, wrote a lengthy explanation, which is in a stark contrast to a rant, rather looks like a serious government policy or internal document. He explained that although killing-all-Uighur policy was seriously considered and favoured by some, the reason the very General didn't wipe Uighurs off Xinjiang was that PRC was weak at the beginning, hence some among higher hierarchy thought that it wasn't the right opportunity to do so (rough translation of Shiji wei Chengshu). He also suggested that 9.11 gave China a once in a millennium opportunity to conduct ethnic cleansing against Uighurs and he cited several such solution proposed by several scholars. I was a Uighur freshman and I was scared! Reply

Scared to tell Yesterday Majority of Uighurs blindly believe that ethnic cleansing is impossible and countries come to help them. But they don't realise that Uighurs are totally ignored and neglected by rest of the world and given to China as a gift. But this false hope encourages them to rise up against China with knives and bare hand, believing that people will notice when enough Uighurs have died. Once a friend of mine told me that since Uighurs (with population of more than 10 million) don't have effective political parties, political representation, free speech, rights to organise, and religious freedom; are economically most impoverished, culturally oppressed and plagued with health problems, only thing we can do is that rise against Armed Chinese and get killed to get attention from international community or by GOD. He argues that even if 50% of 10 million get killed, the rest will have a land of their own and true meaningful selfautonomy. I truly hope God exist, because the other is hopeless. I know that Uighurs will be wiped off earth within next few decades. My hope is that China will not wipe them off physically, but give them a chance to become ethnic Han Chinese, therefor guarantee their physical existence. I hope that will not be too much to ask. For those so-called commercial experts hoping to work for China as anti-terrorist advisers, don't waste time, because China knows that there are no terrorist in Xinjiang.
