Water Use Inventory- Estimated Water Use

These figures are estimates. There is a tremendous amount of variation. For example, if you have a water-efficient showerhead. the water flow will be about half the estimate below. If you have a waterefficient toilet the water used per flush will be as low as 1.5- gallons per flush. The amount of water used for tooth brushing, shaving, hand and face washing, and dishwashing will vary significantly based on the time spent and the faucet setting. The amount of water used yard will vary depending on the area in need of water. 3hat I concluded from this is the most water used up is due to toilet flushing at the rough amount of 81#.10./$. I honestly wasn9t surprised because I remember seeing a fact that said that flushing the toilet is one of the most water uses in homes. That9s cra:y. ;ersonally I don9t always flush because I "now how wasteful that is. I should get my family to invest in a less water efficient toilet. The second most wasteful resource is washing dishes by hand. This doesn9t surprise me because when one turns on the facet it is not a steady and slow stream that comes out. The water is practically gushing out. 6f course you could lower the pressure, but when washing dishes people <ust want to get them all rinsed off instead of waiting a few more seconds while the water runs out slow. The third most wasteful water use is the showers. This li"e the toilet flushing was no surprise to me because most people typically <ust want to relax in the shower. The hot water feels nice and there is no thought about all that water one is wasting. I "now I use to be li"e that, but now I typically time my showers to "eep me on chec" and turn off the water when I9m soaping up. This activity was fun and educational, it9s cra:y how much water is used up and how cheap water is. If this is how it is in every household per person, new technology for saving water needs to be created or water bills have to up to ma"e people feel li"e they have to save more water.
