the lives of women, children and youth for sustainability and by
in advancing the right of disable & deprived people; Explicitly we
work towards prosperity of rural, tribal & urban slum dwellers
through integrated approach, which embodies awareness,
education, economic, health, sanitation, capacity building & bio-
diversity programmes, with an insistence on women /youth
empowerment.

· To work for holistic rural development through Training, Education, Extension,


Consultancy, Research and Development.

· To develop, assimilate adopt and test, technologies including indigenous and smaller
technologies to ensure relevance to the rural requirements.

· To evolve and implement a package of education, training and gainful employment


through a flexible entry conditions.

· To maintain standards in the training component of the Training and Technology


Development Center of each district.

· To provide training in the use of improved artisan tools and to innovate, modify
smaller technologies to suit local requirements.

· To encourage self-employment striving to create a strong base for the emergence of


rural entrepreneurship.

· To develop and maintain a research and documentation center with a view to act as a
resource center for studies on rural development.

· To develop an up-to date audiovisual center for producing the necessary software and
audio visual aids for its educational training and extension work.

information and to create an interface between the rural producers and users.

rural poor, slum-dwellers, and people in need.
· To establish Old Age Homes & Day Care Centres for taking care of neglected &
helpless elderly people

· To establish Sevashrams/ Crèches/ Residential Tribal Welfare Schools for taking care
of orphan children and child education.
· To arrange for regular health camps/ eye camps for health / eye care of the people in
need.
· To work for abolition of child labour from the society and protection of child rights.
· To work for creation of self-employment opportunities by arranging various vocational
training programmes in coordination with state, international & national
authorities/organisations.

Back Ground

Dr.Ambedkar Trustworthy for Educational and Rehabilitation Society ( DATER ) a non


governmental organization /not for profit organization was established in 1986 at
Narasaraopet of Guntur District in Andhra Pradesh.

The philosophy of the Society rests upon holistic approach wherein the rural people are
provided with unhindered access to skills in latest sustainable technologies using improved
tools and equipment for enhanced productivity and quality dimensions. Special emphasis is
laid on capacity building and income generating of those who are underprivileged,
downtrodden, women, unemployed youth, and other vulnerable sections of the rural
community. The prime focus is on smaller technologies, which are sustainable and rural
friendly so as to enable the rural poor earn sustainable incomes and lead quality of life, and
thus bring in confidence among them to trigger off to a greater heights. Every initiative of
the Institute represents a smaller step towards realizing Mahatma Gandhi’s dream of
making rural India the focal point of holistic development
It takes initiative for the Integrated Development that would arrive out of the felt needs of
the people. 92Gross Root Level Non Governmental Organisations are working under our
organisation.
DATAER implements Ten major programs, namely:

1.SustainableFarmingProgram(SFP)
SFP develops farmer-initiated, location specific and sustainable farming technologies in
partnership with community organizations to promote appropriate alternatives to
mainstream agricultural processes that have been responsible for losses in farm
productivity and income, biodiversity, indigenous knowledge systems, and community
control over genetic resources.

2.Sustainable Community-Based Resource Management Program (SCBRMP)


SCBRMP enhances people's environmental awareness and builds their capacities in natural
resource utilization, protection, and management. Directed towards the formation of
community resource management structures, the program aims to promote participatory
and community-directed approaches in the protection and rehabilitation of natural
resources including coastal and marine, forest and water resources. It also mobilizes
community actions to address resource destruction and depletion, biodiversity erosion and
unsustainable utilization of land and aquatic resources.

3.Rural Livelihood Development Program (RLDP)


RLDP contributes to the development of sustainable livelihood systems and the promotion
of greater equity in rural areas by increasing incomes of rural households, both from farm
and off-farm sources. The program's key strategies revolve around facilitating the poor's
access to credit and market and developing economically viable and sustainable enterprises
where the beneficiaries effectively exercise management and control over these activities and
receive equitable benefits from the same.

4. Policy Research, Advocacy and Campaigns (PRAC)


DATER's research, advocacy and campaigns program generates and promotes relevant
information, actions and proposals on key development issues and concerns affecting
agriculture and small-scale farmers and HIV/AIDS, Women rights, eradication of child
labour, adolescents and women from trafficking, rehabilitation programs to disabled
children, street children etc

5. Women and Children development Program (WCDP)


DATER run the Family Counseling centers for salvation of women family problems in the
district with the financial support from INDUSTIALISTS and rehabilitation programmes to
the street children, adolescent children, orphans, disabled children with the financial
support from Sarvasikshaw Abhiyan run under Women and Children Development
Department of New Delhi

6. Trafficking and Commercial Sexual Exploitation(TCSE)


Prevention of Trafficking and Rescue, Rehabilitation and Re-integration of Victims of
Trafficking and Commercial Sexual Exploitation

7. Stigma and Discrimination on HIV/AIDS Programs(SDP)


Preventing the Stigma and discrimination on HIV/AIDs through mobilizing the population
and stakeholders and contribute to achieving the Millennium Development (MDG) Goal 6
“Halt and reverse the spread of HIV/AIDS by 2015”. It has linkage to other MDGs, in
particular those related to poverty reduction and infant mortality.

8. Women Empowerment Program(WEP)


Women empowerment programmes through skill and vocational trainings for sustainable
livelihood. Forming women former groups, SHG groups, Micro Finance for sustainable
livelihood..Sofar our organisation has formed 3588 SHG groups with regular saving for
Rs.146.80 lakhs and sofar 146.80 Lakhs were provided to the beneficiaries for establishing
self employment schemes for sustainable livelihood
9.Household Sanitation Survey
DATER was entrusted the survey of household sanitation in 11 mandal in the district by the
district collector under the supervision of RWS department and accordingly DATER has
made field visits ,interviewed with each beneficiaries and covered total beneficiaries of
32450 families and furnished report along with C.D to the Executive Engineer RWS
10.Environmental Educational to the poor girls and boys
Education is considered as an important tool for the disabled for their development,
our organization gave educational support to 88 deserving disabled in our area of
operation. They got special fees, notebooks, examination fees, technical training and
other connected study materials from our organization.

Free uniform dresses were given to 30 poor disabled school going students so that
they can mingle in the main stream with other students in the educational
institutions without shy and inferiority complex and proceed with their career
confidently.
Awareness about the disability, its causes, its consequences and its psychological
effects on both the disabled, family concerned and the society is essential. On this

basis awareness generation programmes were conducted in various centers. Many


disabled and the concerned parents/guardians participated these programmes and
got benefited in the aspect of prevention, treatment and placements for the trained
disabled.
Elimination And Rehabilitation Of Child Labour
With the support of National Child Labour Project i.e Project Director of
Sarvasikhsha Abhiyan ,DATER has been actively involved in child labour
eradication as well as development of child labour through educating them in
National Child Labour Project Schools to bring them to mainstream schools. The
residential schools were organized for child labour and 98 children were benefited
though this project during the year.98 children were made to take admissions in
government schools. We have created educational opportunites for the children
working in industries and motivated children to enroll and continue their formal
education. DATER has organised the parents of the children working in industries
for elimination of child labour
11. Skill development Training Programme
DATER has identified Some entrepreneurial skills and provideds trainigs in the
following trades and 250 (each trade consisting of 50 women )women in the age
groups of 20 to 35 benefited identified Now they are able to work and earn money
independently to stand on their own legs.

· Beautician course

12. Vocational Training Programme


Adda Leafs & Garments making is another important programme conducted by
DATER. In this unit 75 women in the age group of 25 to 45 including 5 disabled
girls underwent training. Now they are able to work and earn money independently
to stand on their own legs.
Similarly 50 girls in the age group of 19 to 24 were trained in computer training
Programme and out of 50, 45 girls are working in various companies and shops and
remaining 5 hve established internet offices to generate the income..
With the support of APITCO under control of District Youth Welfare Officer , the
training programme to 50 women was conducted in the trade of Bed Side Assistance
and wage employment was provided to these 50 girls to work in various hospital in
the district

of academics, farmer-leaders, NGO leaders and development advocates who share a
common vision of development and a commitment to genuine people empowerment.

development training programs, awareness programs community, environment
programs, human resource management programs , development ,funds raising,
projects designing is the President of the organization .

Smt.Kona Sri Laxmi, M.S.W who trained in the fields of Rural women development,
agricultural sector and environment sector is the Secretary oversees the regular operations
of GATER. The organization also maintains a regular pool of experts in the fields of
agriculture, genetics, economics, HIV/AIDS awareness, women and children related
programs and the environment to provide technical backup to its programs and services

11. The members of the organization, its meeting, the reason of holding the
meeting and the decisions generally taken.

The member of the organization can be from all strata of the society. The members generally
meet annually in the annual general body meeting unless otherwise needed. To run the
organization, there is an executive committee consisting of Seven elected members from the
general body of the organization. There are as much as Six female members in the managing
committee. The managing committee meets once in every 1-2 months interval. The
committee discuss on all the matters .

1. DATER has successfully organised the first ever Mega 382 46,400
Health Camp in Guntur district during last three years at
Chilakaluripet village of Guntur district. This camp named as
“Improve the Helath of poor women” rendered health service
2. Another innovative project being implemented by DATER is 12 195
Rehabilitation of Street Children /Beggars & Protection of their
children upto 14 years of Age. The Organization had made a
survey and identified 275 beggar families. So far, the
organization has rehabilitated 195 families in gainful economic
activities, provided them house in Guntur urban slums and
provided them financial assistance for their economic growth
through Income Generation Activity. The children of the
families are now taught in a “Free Education Centre” being run
by DATER . The resources required for this purpose is usually
raised by the Organization through “Donations”, “Govt. Grant”
and internal accrual.
3. DATER is working on elderly people’s developmental 14 98
activities. So far DATER has promoted nine SHGs among the
older people, provided legal / medical / financial and other
assistance to problems of older people of the society.

4. DATER has been actively involved in child labour 122 796


eradication as well as development of child labour through
educating them in National Child Labour Project Schools to
bring them to mainstream schools. At present DATER is
running 2 such Child Labour Schools with a strength of 50 in
each school. We do provide the mid day meal to the children on
school as per the Govt. of India directives. In this process, so
far 150 child labours have been educated by GRES and have
entered into mainstream school.
5. DATER has successfully imparted vocational training to 179 3,514
unemployed youth and women in different vocations under its
vocational training programme, who have been self employed
6. DATER has been conducting training programs on the micro 65 2,860

credit; self help group promotion, different aspects of SHG for


the capacity building of the group members of the SHGs and
other local NGOs. It has also imparted vocational training to
2860 numbers of Self Help Group members on different trades
for their micro enterprises.
7. DATER has been implementing the literacy programme in 256 11,900
its project areas, with employment of literacy teachers derived
from concerned area, who render their voluntary service for the
development of their own people. In this process, DATER has
so far made 7150 tribal people literate by this move.
8. DATER has provided books, slates and other study material 121 10723
to the illiterate persons in the self help groups with a view to
make all illiterate member of the SHG’s literate under its total
literacy programme.
9. DATER has established training cum production centers in 21 592
Chilakaluripeta Town , Ready made garments making, Candle
Making, Agarbathi making ,Toys making, Pickles making ,
.Through theses training cum production centers DATER has
been able to provide employment opportunity to poor and
needy women of the region.
10. Since the year 2005 until April ’2009 DATER has
promoted SHG’s & credit linked SHG’s in the undivided
Guntur District, which has made it a pioneer organization in 588 8,820
this region on Micro-Credit Program. Most of these groups are
exclusive women groups, which reflect the seriousness &
involvement of DATER towards women empowerment
11. DATER has solved the domestic violence’s of women 39 389
through Family Counseling Centre
12. DATER has been providing free education to the women 13 150
candidates those who failed in SSC to achieve 100% pass
results
13. DATER has been succeeded in Formation of women groups 19 1,569
in fishermen community and provided skill development
trainings and proved loan facilities for self employment through
bank linkage
14. Awareness Generations Programmes were conducted in
321villages to the Women on subjects of Women and Law, 321 96,453
Women and Health, Community Health , Women Technology,
Social Action , Panchayats and Grama Sabhas , Communal
Harmony, Legal Literacy, Hiv /Aids , Trafficking, Stigma on HIV
15. Workshops on Sustainable agriculture were conducted with 89 6,790
mahila Rytu mitra groups with the help of JD, Agriculture
department

FUTURE PLANS

DATER has a strong faith that little intervention in need makes big difference, thus the
success as mentioned above has encouraged DATER with following future programme:

· To organize water resource management programs


· Establishment of Rehabilitation and Care Center for Women in distress
· Establishment of four Water Harvesting Structures to provide irrigation facility
to 12000 Hectares of land.
