His heart and thoughts go to the people on board and their families and loved ones, Zed added. Zed further said that he was full of sorrow for this mysterious disappearance and urged other world religious leaders to join him in prayers. It was a heartbreaking incident, Zed noted. 2% Realty

Scholarship Debate Heats Up

Opposing policies will affect some education initiatives brought in by the current government if the Social Democratic and Liberal Party forms the next government. For years the Fijian government was giving out race based scholarships. For the itaukei scholarships, the main criteria was that the applicant had to be a itaukei or Rotuman. The other scholarship system was the Multi Ethnic scholarships which were only given to Indo Fijians and the minority community. The qualifying marks and salary levels of parents for both categories were also different. Starting from this year, the current government decided that race based scholarships should be abolished and scholarship awards should be based on merit. This resulted in the setting up of the National Toppers Scheme. The government has also set up the Tertiary Loan Scheme which has given many people the opportunity to pursue further education after completing secondary education. Prime Minister, Rear Admiral Voreqe Bainimarama said the race based scholarship programme is a divided way of looking at building national capacity. Bainimarama said more Fijian youth than ever before now have access to tertiary education under the new toppers scholarship and Government loan scheme. The Prime Minister said to revert to the old system would rob so many students around the country of the opportunity to pursue their dreams with a university education. Bainimarama said the previous system lacked transparency where people accessed scholarships depending many times on who you were or who you knew. However SODELPA's senior official, Doctor Tupeni Baba stressed that SODELPA will not change it's stand as the new system has not been approved by an elected parliament. Fiji Labour Party Leader, Mahendra Chaudhry is in Australia and could not be reached for a comment on whether the FLP holds the same stance as SODELPA. The National Federation Party said they will discuss this issue in their AGM next Saturday. The People's Democratic Party's Interim President, Adi Sivia Qoro said people should have been consulted before the changes.

PM sets date for his partys registration; launch in May

Prime Minister Rear Admiral (Retired) Voreqe Bainimarama will register his new party on April 22 and launch it in May. He made the announcement in Vanuavatu on Monday night and reiterated it while speaking to the people of Komo Island in the Lau Group. Mr Bainimarama, who is on an official tour of five islands in the Lau Group he has not visited, also told the people there would be no campaign two weeks before the elections. Speaking from Vanuavatu, villager Semi Tadokai who attended the PMs talanoa session, said all their doubts on the elections had been clarified. We have no radio transmission on the island so most of us do not know what to expect in the coming elections until the Prime Minister visited us, Mr Tadokai said. Now we have found out that five parties will contest the elections and we will be given the choice to vote from the 250 names that will be on the ballot paper. Mr Tadokai said the people of Vanuavatu remained committed to the Bainimarama Government and had offered their unwavering support towards the PM. For the people here in Vanuavatu, we are all going to vote for Bainimarama. His government has really proven itself from when they came into power until today, he said. We have seen development coming and assistance in all forms so we would like that to continue. Mr Tadokai said the PM assured that he would visit the island again in July. He said Mondays visit was just to complete his Lau tour, but he will be visiting in July before the elections so we are all looking forward. Mr Bainimarama also revealed that all registration of voters would end 60 days before the elections. For this, a directive will be issued by the President. Political parties are also not allowed to campaign two weeks before polling day. Meanwhile, Mr Bainimarama joined a delegation led by the Minister for Women, Social Welfare and Poverty Alleviation from Monday. Together, they visited Vanuavatu before heading to Komo.

Dengue Fever Cases Rise

More travellers are returning to New Zealand with dengue fever with the mosquito-borne disease spreading in the region, health authorities say. There have been 35 cases in Auckland so far this year, with 24 cases from Fiji alone. Health services have advised people travelling to the Pacific to take steps to avoid mosquito bites. Since October 2013, Fiji has recorded more than 10,000 cases of dengue fever, with 12 deaths. Dengue fever has also emerged in French Polynesia, Vanuatu and New Caledonia. The zika virus, which is similar to dengue, is widespread in French Polynesia, with cases also in New Caledonia and the Cook Islands, while another similar virus, chikungunya, has recently appeared in Papua New Guinea. Anyone travelling to these countries is urged to exercise caution, Auckland Medical Officer of Health Dr Simon Baker said. "Dengue fever can be a severe illness," he said. "Those who travel to the Pacific frequently are at risk of repeat infections with different strains of the dengue virus. This can lead to dengue hemorrhagic fever, which can be fatal. ''This is heightened by the fact that, for the first time in 20 years, the denguethree strain is active in the region." Dengue fever symptoms begin with a high fever and severe headache. Nausea and vomiting are common, as are joint and muscle pain. The illness can last up to 10 days, although people can feel tired and depressed for weeks. Zika and chikungunya cause similar, but often milder illnesses. There was no vaccine for dengue fever, zika or chikungunya. The only way to prevent infection, Baker said, was to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes. "Although the commonest time for bites is early morning and late afternoon, dengue-carrying mosquitoes also bite all through the day," he said. The best protection from mosquito bites included wearing lightly-coloured clothing that covers your arms and legs, and a hat and shoes, applying insect repellent containing 40 per cent diethyltoluamide (DEET), to skin and clothing, and staying in accommodation that was air-conditioned, or had screens on doors and windows. Anyone returning from overseas with dengue symptoms, or feeling generally unwell, should contact their GP or Healthline and let them know where they travelled, Baker said. Paracetamol was recommended rather than aspirin, because aspirin could increase the risk of bleeding. New Zealand mosquitoes do not carry dengue virus, and it is not spread person to person.

$1.25M Help For Dengue Outbreak

The Australian Government will this Friday handover $FJD1.25million to the Fiji government to assist in the response to the Dengue Fever outbreak which has killed 12 people with more than 11,000 confirmed cases. The funds are inclusive of the $FJD170,000 announced by the Australian High Commission in early March 2014. Acting Australian High Commissioner Glenn Miles will do the handover for this assistance which will be channeled through the Australian-funded Fiji Health Sector Support Program (FHSSP) to purchase medical supplies and fund an ongoing public health communications campaign. Fiji Health Sector Support Program says Australias support will complement the Fiji Ministry of Healths efforts in clinical management, vector control (destroying mosquitoes and their breeding grounds), disease surveillance and public communication all of which are needed to manage this disease outbreak.

Suva Court Acquits Gang Rape Accused

A high court in Suva has acquitted four men charged with two counts of 4rape and four counts of aiding and abetting rape of a 17-year-old girl in 2010. This after High Court Judge Justice Janaka Bandara ruled that the prosecution did not prove beyond doubt the victims claims as a result of contradictions not only in the victim's statements but also other evidence presented. The victim, identified, as NR in court gave three different versions of the events that happened in Nasinu on December 12, 2010. In her report to police, based on which charges were laid, she claimed she only consented to have sex with a Moritekei Nayavagaki (third accused) after which she was forced to lie back as first accused Vilikesa Ramaqa and second accused Niko Qaqara took turns, followed by Nayavagaki and the fourth accused, Moritekei Naicobocobo. Accordingly, Nayavagaki, the third accused, was charged with three counts of aiding and abetting rape, the first and second accused persons, Vilikesa Ramaqa and Niko Qaqara were charged with rape while the fourth accused, Naicoboco, was charged with one count of aiding and abetting rape. But in giving evidence, a friend of hers, said the victim had told her the day after the incident that she was raped by four men and she 'liked it.' that the complainant told the accused The third version presented before tomorrow again when she left the court, was via a medical report of boys and on the following morning she the victim which noted that the had told Laisa that she liked what she victim informed the doctor that she described as rape by four boys. was allegedly `raped by five men on "The contradictions in Ms. N.R.s December 10 and 12, 2010'. statements go to the root of the Judge Bandara, upon hearing the prosecution case. The defence highlighted that six houses, four on the right and two on the left, were located close to the spot where the alleged incident took place. It was a relief for a wife after receiving a "She could have raised alarms or run $10,000 workers compensation cheque away. She was referring to the fourth accused. "It is after analyzing all these aspects, this court concludes that the prosecution did not prove beyond reasonable doubt that the sexual intercourse of the first accused and the second accused with Ms. N.R. took place without her consent. "The prosecution evidence itself creates a reasonable doubt over the issue of consent of Ms. N.R. to have sexual intercourse with the first and second accused. This court declines to accept the narration of Ms. N.R. that she did not consent to have sexual intercourse with the two accused as it seriously questions her credibility. "Therefore, this court does not agree with the unanimous opinion of the assessors. All four accused are acquitted accordingly."

Champs $10,000 Richer

The first winners of the Fiji Dancing Super Stars competition are $10,000 richer. The champion duo, John Peckham and Sharleen Ali, received their cheque from the chief guest Attorney-General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, after they won the final in Suva. They have been consistent performers throughout the competition and in the end they proved they were a cut above the rest. They left little doubt in the minds of the judges Peter Rockford Espiritu, the director of the Oceania Dance Theatre; Naziah Ali, the publisher of Mai Life magazine; Amit Ashween Chand of Masti Arts and Dance Group; Laisiasa Veikoso, the director of the Fiji Arts Council. The winners acknowledged the competition was very tough. Ms Ali said it pushed them to work harder and try harder at every competition. But she said its paid off in the biggest way.

Unlicensed Dog Owner Charged

A man charged with keeping an unlicensed dog last year has been ordered to pay $80. Rakesh Roshan Prasad was found guilty before Labasa Magistrate Sia'iniu Fa'alogo Bull. The court heard the dog bit the complainant in February. A report was lodged with the police who found that the dog was unlicensed. In sentencing, Mrs Bull considered Prasad's early guilty plea and cooperation with the police. "You are first offender and a 37-yearold married man," she said. "You are to pay $80 before the 28th of this month." Mrs Bull said if Prasad failed to pay by then, he would be jailed for 10 days. Prasad has been given 28 days to appeal.

Juveniles In Court For Theft

Five juveniles aged between 14 to 17 years are to appear in court for their alleged involvement in a series of car break-ins last week in Nasinu area. They are accused for allegedly breaking into five vehicles and stealing items which were sold later in Suva. The five allegedly spent the money on alcohol. They have been charged with damaging property and theft. Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said this was not the first time for these youths to be appearing in court. They also have other similar cases pending in court, Naisoro said. The case has worried the Police Department as these youth are now having to deal with the law rather than focusing on preparing themselves for the future that lies ahead. We are urging others in the same age group not to be easily involved in such illegal activities for the sole purpose of a few hours of enjoyment which in turn affects their future. Fijis foreign reserve remains at an alltime record of $1.8billion. Attorney-General Aiyaz SayedKhaiyum said this was a clear indication of the how good the country is doing. Mr Sayed-Khaiyum also said that Fiji had seen consistent economic growth just three times over its brief independent history. There are only three times in Fijis history when the economy has grown consistently over four years. One was after independence when Monasavu was being built, one was between 1992 and 1996 when a couple of the bigger hotels were being built and one is now. Under the Bainimarama Government, for the past four years, we have had sustained economic growth.

Fiji Hits $1.8Billion

Also, for the first time, our foreign reserves are very high. It is $1.8billion, a record. The foreign reserves would touch the $2billion mark, if all the off shore funds that were sitting for FNPF and the sinking funds were taken into account. We are obviously positioned very well in terms of economic growth rate, he said. What you need to understand is that the economy is growing at a good rate, there are opportunities for people and at the same time, we are putting in place infrastructural changes. While addressing members of the Fiji Van and Carriers Association at Fun World Plaza in Nadi, Mr SayedKhaiyum said people in the transport industry had also benefitted greatly

from the investment Government had made in infrastructure. Some of you would have benefitted from the roads. Obviously, we cannot fix up all the roads in one year. The neglect of roads goes back 30 to 40 years. Road maintenance has been neglected and a lot of money has been wasted. Now when we are trying to rebuild the roads, we are ensuring it is done in proper way. He said with free education, the country could be assured of a smarter generation in coming years, which would mean a smarter country. We are focused on the future. Interest rates in banks have been one of the lowest ever. In the past year, banks have lent $1.2billion and a good number of this lending has been made to the private sector.

Apply For Remission Fees: Education

Parents that cannot afford to pay for their childrens boarding fees can apply for remission of fees says permanent secretary for Education, Dr Brij Lal. Lal made the comments after he was notified that boarders of a female dominated school have been fed by church members as the school is alleged to not have any ration for its boarding students. Lal said though the ministry has not been notified of this, the school should provide for its boarding students because the students pay for their boarding fees instead of the ministry. We only pay very small amount for the boarding fees but parents can apply for remission of fees if they cannot afford hostel fees, Lal said. Methodist Church of Fiji and Rotuma secretary for communication, Reverend James Bhagwan said their secretary for Education has not received any complaints from the school. Our secretary for education met with the school principal but nothing was raised and we havent been given any information about it, Bhagwan said. Cell groups of the nearby congregation have had a day in a week to provide the students with their three main meals.

Corrections Service Denies Assault On Dead Inmate

The Fiji Corrections Service has denied claims circulating on social media alleging that assaults by corrections officers led to the death of inmate, Viliame Tawake. In an official statement issued the corrections service stated that Mr Tawake had suffered from a short illness. Mr Tawake was in fact taken to the hospital on February 28 after suffering a short illness. He was released from the hospital on Saturday morning (March 1). (On) Saturday evening; he was escorted back to the hospital and was released on Sunday morning (March 2) after he was treated by the medical

authorities. On Sunday night, his illness recurred and became more severe and while arrangements were still being made for his transportation to the hospital, Mr Tawake passed away. Meanwhile, Mr Tawakes family is disputing reports on social media that he had severe injuries. Speaking to the media, Mr Tawakes wife, Maria Makarita, said they only saw swelling and blisters on the right side of his face and that he had also bitten his tongue. She said the family could not determine reports on social media that Mr Tawake suffered severe injuries because they were only allowed to see his body from his neck upwards in order to identify him. Ms Makarita said. (We didnt dress his body at the hospital because the nurse informed us that his body had become soft. It was wrapped in cloth with plastic and a masi (tapa cloth). Ms Makarita said what really upset her was the fact that the corrections service did not contact her to inform her that her husband had been ill and was taken to the hospital twice before his death. He died on Monday morning (March 3) and when the officers came to convey the news of his death they informed me that he had been ill and was taken to the hospital twice during the weekend. Why didnt they call me when he had been taken to the hospital? Ms Makarita said the family was still awaiting the post mortem examination result.

Virgin Oil Is The Best

People in the Lau Group have been reminded of the importance of resorting to virgin oil as their main source of income. Minister for Women, Social Welfare and Poverty Alleviation Dr Jiko Luveni stressed at the talanoa session that virgin oil generates lots of income compared to dried copra and other sources of the income. She said there were markets available, not only locally, but also internationally for virgin oil. For the five islands in Totoya, only a man from Tovu Village is operating his virgin oil business. Dr Luveni has promised that she would be sending two more coconut scrapping machines for the man in the next boat visiting the island after he made a request. The poultry business for the women on the island, operating from Tovu Village will also get more assistance under the small business scheme.

New Hope For Goundars

Romina Rosie Goundar is one of the grateful hearts who had her son examined by doctors from Shriners Hospitals for Children at the Colonial War Memorial War Hospital on Tuesday. Shoheel Chandra Goundar, 6, was born at Rakiraki Hospital and subsequent to his birth he had episodes of apnea. She said her son had spastic diplegia, a form of Cerbal Palsy and his left side was more effective than the right side. Mrs Goundar said she was told by the doctors that Shoheel had a good capacity to understand and follow commands but was not able to execute the commands. country," Mr Cakacaka said. "This is the first time for us to have the market day and we plan to do it every month as a means of attracting more customers into the market. "We would like to improve it from next month. As we go on, we would like to access the customers' needs and even the suppliers." Mr Cakacaka said the main objective was to provide a platform for farmers and producers to showcase their produce and give customers a personalized market day.

Minimum Wage Now In Effect: Jone Usamate

Fiji's new minimum wage of $2 per hour announced by the government last month came into force on March 1, confirms the Minister for Labour, Industrial Relations and Employment Jone Usamate. Usamate in a government statement said the National Minimum Wage (NMW) Regulations had been gazetted and all relevant employers must adjust their workers wage levels and employment conditions to comply with the NMW Regulations and the Employment Relations Promulgation 2007 (ERP). The NMW rate of $2 will cover all employers in the informal sector, including employers in the formal sector not covered under the 10 current Wages Regulations Orders (WROs). It will benefit a total of at least 72,000 workers," Usamate said. The overarching objective of this major wage policy is to alleviate poverty among the most marginalised workers in the informal and formal sectors. It is to build a better Fiji for these workers, who have been disadvantaged and disregarded for a long period of time." This historical initiative is in line with governments commitment under the Peoples Charter for Change, Peace and Progress (PCCPP) on reducing poverty to a negligible level by 2015 while enhancing workplace and national productivity. Usamate cautions employers not to pay below the NMW ($2 per hour) rate and encourages employers to adopt a productivity-based performance system. He said the workers rights stipulated in the NMW Regulations were in addition to their rights under the Employment Relations Promulgation . All entitlements and fundamental principles of rights at work under the ERP are still applicable to all workers covered under the NMW Regulations. For example, workers entitlements such as annual leave, public holiday leave, maternity leave, sick leave, bereavement leave and all other benefits provided under the ERP must be fully awarded when due," he added. Under the regulations all employers are required to display a written NMW notice in their workplaces for the purpose of informing and educating the workers. The minister reiterates that on the spot fine of $100 will be issued if employers refuse to follow any part of the NMW Regulations and further penalties will be issued upon breach of the Regulations. On conviction, an employer is liable to a fine of $20,000 or two years imprisonment or both. The ministry in its effort to provide efficient and effective supportive role for the implementation of the NMW has established a Wages Unit which will provide professional secretariat support to the 10 WROs. Usamate said his ministry would continue to promote the fundamental social justice principles and rights at work with the implementation of the various components of Labour Reforms including the realisation of decent wages, decent conditions and decent work environment that promotes dignity in the workplace for all types of work.

THE Fiji Development Bank has created a market for producers and farmers in a bid to establish long-term relationships with customers. This effort began with the first ever FDB Market Day in Suva. FDB business risk services general manager Nafitalai Cakacaka said there was a need to support small businesses and manufacturers, adding a market day would provide a good platform. "We used the FDB market to represent all the possible suppliers in the

In Sigatoka, Provincial Administrator Nadroga/Navosa Peni Koro urged people to make use of the assistance in moving their families out of poverty. There is a need to move away from the hand out mentality and start helping yourselves. These homes are small way of thanking you owners on your continued contribution to the nation, Koro said.

The High Court in Suva after a retrial has reduced the jail term of a 27-yearold woman who was sentenced to life for drowning her two daughters in January, 2008. Ronika Devi who pleaded guilty to the charges of manslaughter and infanticide was handed a 2 years imprisonment suspended for 3 years by Judge Justice Janaka Bandara. Devi was accused of drowning her daughters; Tanisa Pratap (1 year and 9 months old) and an unnamed baby girl (20 days old) in the Rewa River after having a heated argument with her husband after he failed to return home with diapers.

Killer Mum Gets Suspended Sentence

The court accepted psychiatric evidence that Devi was severely depressed when she committed the acts. Justice Bandara ruled that Devi's deed was a serious insult to mothers who have high expectations for their childrens future and that the failure of her husband to return home with diapers is a lame excuse to take two lives of innocent girls. But he noted her willingness to plead guilty to the killings, that she is a first offender, is not likely to repeat the crime and that the length of time she had already spent in jail waiting for a conclusion to her case, were sufficient reasons to reduce her term.

Mt Isa Fijians Keen On 2014 Election

Two Fijians who now work in the mines in Mount Isa, north west Queensland where 280 other Fijians live, say they are looking forward to the election. Former local journalist, Felise Tova, and his mate, Edward Wade, have been keeping well abreast of news from Fiji in the lead up to the election not so much to vote as their Fijian passports have expired but driven by the hope to get Fiji "back to the way it was in its heyday and moving forward to better times." Although very interested in proceedings locally, the two, the report says are unable to vote because for like many other Fijians living abroad "they have allowed their passports to expire because before 2011 they were not permitted to have dual citizenship." Tova says with a lot of his family still residing in Fiji, "we're very, very interested in what's happening there." He said getting Fiji back to the way it was will help improve lives. His friend, Wade, is of the view that Australian media does not accurately represent the real situation in Fiji, saying that in his view "Fiji has always been democratic." "I understand the coups to your view might be a bad thing, but to me back then I was all for it. "I suppose you have to have lived in Fiji to understand what it's going through." Tova said the political situation in Fiji is such that "it's not easy for the lay person on the street to know what's happening, there are a lot of twists and turns" adding that there are lot of things to learn for the ordinary Australian. The Fiji High Commission recently visited 50 places around Queensland, Victoria, New South Wales and the ACT registering Fijians to vote in the September poll. They also headed to Mount Isa and Adelaide after a special request from the local communities. The election this year will be Fiji's first in eight years.

Travellers heading to the Pacific Islands are being warned of a dengue fever outbreak. Fiji has reported more than 10,000 cases of the illness since October last year, including 12 deaths. Dengue fever has also emerged in French Polynesia, Vanuatu and New Caledonia. Auckland has seen 35 cases so far this year 24 of which came from Fiji. "Dengue fever can be a severe illness," says medical officer of health Dr Simon Baker. "Those who travel to the Pacific frequently are at risk of repeat infections with different strains of the dengue virus." Travellers planning to enter the Pacific region are being warned to exercise caution against mosquito bites. Dengue fever symptoms start with a high fever and severe headache, followed by nausea, vomiting and joint or muscle pain.

Travellers Warned Of Dengue Fever Outbreak

The bodies of two teenage cousins reported missing last Saturday were discovered in the Nadi River on Monday evening, leaving a family in heartache. The victims fathers are brothers and a search was mounted for them after they had gone swimming on Saturday afternoon and failed to reappear. One of the victims, 15-year-old Philip Abhishek, was a fourth form student of Mulomulo Secondary School and along with his 17-year-old cousin, was found in the Namotomoto area of the Nadi River. Philips tearful mother wept openly while describing her only son as relatives gathered in their Megunyeh,

The illness can last up to 10 days, but people can feel depressed and tired for weeks. As there is no vaccine, the only way to prevent dengue fever is to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes. Travellers should wear lightly coloured clothing that covers arms and legs, as well as a hat and shoes. They're also advised to wear insect repellent and stay in air-conditioned accommodation with door and window screens. Those who return from the islands feeling unwell should seek medical advice. Later I received a phone call from his father at 6:30 pm Saturday saying that Philip was lost at the river but I still felt that he was alive and would return, Ms Devi said. It was very shocking when I was told that his body had been found and was at the Nadi Hospital. The younger of two children, Philip has an older sister in New Zealand and was looking forward to meeting his sisters baby. Police said a post mortem examination on the victims would be conducted as investigations continue.

Seventy- Seven (77) per cent of the sixty four new cases on people living with HIV in Fiji recorded last year fall in the age category of 20 years to 39 years. This has been revealed in the latest statistics released by the Ministry of Health. A total of 546 HIV positive cases were recorded in Fiji Since 1989 with heterosexual being the main mode of transmission followed by prenatal and homosexual spread at 5 per cent each with a transmission among bisexuals at 1 per cent. This increase has caused the Ministry of Health to encourage HIV tests to the public. This assists clinics to do a better follow up of patients and ensure they are on HIV treatment. Early detection of positive cases has reduced the number of patients suffering from any other related infections and even death. The ministry says that early detection also allows HIV/AIDS positive persons

the opportunity to utilize the available antiretroviral drug that contributes toward improving quality of life and prevents mother to child transmission of HIV for pregnant women. With HIV treatment being available for pregnant mothers it is possible for children to be born negative. Members of the public are reminded to take necessary precautions to protect themselves from HIV and other sexually transmitted infections. This can be done by abstaining, engaging in safer sexual practices, having one sexual partner (being faithful) and refraining from sharing needles. The 2011 HIV/AIDS Amendment Decree protects the affected and infected HIV persons in Fiji. The HIV/AIDS Board, through the ministry, continues to raise awareness on HIV/AIDS and encourages members of the public to contact their nearest health facilities for more information or visit the HIV/STI clinics based in the three main divisions of Fiji.

Pregnant mothers at the Colonial War memorial Hospital should soon see changes as the Ministry of Health promises to get in 200 more beds for the maternity units, delivery suites and operating theatres. This will be commissioned this year after close to $30million has been injected into efforts to improve facilities at the CWMH in Suva. This is part of Governments plan to upgrade infrastructure and enhance human resources. Health Minister, Dr Neil Sharma said the East Wing (CWM) was undergoing some modifications with plans to include 200 beds at the maternity units, delivery suites and operating theatres that would be commissioned this year. Our focus is nationwide with nursing stations, health centers, sub -divisional

hospitals receiving facelift, Dr Sharma said. He said the ministry had plans to reduce wastage and practice better procurement methods in the pharmaceutical areas. This is a complex issue with the global market changing, population movement in country, transportation in/ out of countries and changing patterns of prescribing, he said. Our efficiency levels are more robust, wastage markedly reduced and better procurement, storage and distribution are in place. The minister is confident that government investment in infrastructure will allow the ministry to focus on improving human skills, customer focus and ownership of new services and technology.

Fiji will compete in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in July, ending years of isolation following the 2006 military coup. The Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group made the decision late last week to partially ease Fiji's suspension from the Commonwealth ahead of national elections planned for September. Fiji was suspended from the Commonwealth in 2009 after it refused to go ahead with elections that year. The Fijian government says the

And it says it's looking forward to regaining full Commonwealth membership in due course. With the 2014 Commonwealth Games only four months away, Fiji Sports and National Olympic Committee chief executive Lorraine Marr says different sport bodies will decide if they have sufficient time to prepare.

Dr Brij Lal reminds schools of zerotolerance policy after school visits expose incidents The Ministry of Education has received an alarming number of cases related to corporal punishment. This was confirmed by the Permanent Secretary, Dr Brij Lal, during his visits to several schools in Taveuni. I am sorry to say there have been several being reported to my office is alarming and therefore let me remind you that Ministry has zero tolerance on corporal punishment, Dr Lal said. Teachers need to have empathy for students. They should love, care and give attention to the needs of every child who is special at school. Teachers were told that any reported case of corporal punishment would lead to suspension or termination of teaching licenses without police

investigation. The Government has made education more accessible for the Fijian children by providing free education grant incentives at primary and secondary level, therefore teachers need to understand the main reason for children being present in schools, Dr Lal said. Meanwhile, the ministry strongly advised reminded teachers about the importance of reading. Teachers need to make requests to head teachers to purchase reading books for the different grade levels at school with the school grant in place. Remove outdated books which do not encourage reading in the library. Children should be encouraged to read from an early age and as primary school teachers your role in promoting reading among children is crucial, he said.

Fijian Flag Hoisted Up In London

Fijis National flag was again hoisted up amongst those of commonwealth nations at the Commonwealth Secretariat gardens in London following the decision to change the status of her membership last week. At the 43rd meeting of the Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group (CMAG) in London on 14 March 2014, CMAG "decided that Fiji's current full suspension from the Commonwealth should be changed to suspension from the councils of the Commonwealth, thus permitting Fiji once again to participate in a range of Commonwealth activities, including the Commonwealth Games, recognising the role of sport in bringing people together." Chaired by Hon. Bernard K. Membe, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the United Republic of Tanzania CMAG welcomed the significant progress made in Fiji towards holding national elections by September 2014. These included the promulgation of a new constitution; the enrolment of more than 540,000 voters; the establishment of an independent Electoral Commission; and the commencement of a dialogue between the Commission and political stakeholders. The Group welcomed the decision by the Fiji Elections Office to open Voter Registration Offices around the country to ensure more voters will register in anticipation of the planned elections.

The Dengue branch of the US Center for Disease Control is another agency that is responding to the Minister for Healths call for assistance to help Fiji in the recent Dengue outbreak. He said this laboratory support allows for a small number of patient serum samples and also some tissue samples from dengue fatal cases to be sent for reference testing to the United States. Dr Kama added that the objective of sending these tissue samples from fatal cases of suspected dengue fever is to determine whether the cause of death is in fact dengue fever. He said one of the reasons for patients serum samples for further testing is to determine whether the dengue strain

circulating in the country continues to be the Dengue Virus 3 strain or whether there is a competing Dengue Virus strain present. Kama said dengue testing on tissue samples is not routinely done in most laboratories in the world, therefore the Ministry of Health is fortunate that the Center for Disease Control can facilitate this for the Country. He added that the challenge at the moment is that the process of sending the samples across is taking a little longer as the freight services between Fiji and the US cannot fast-track their administrative process to facilitate quick sending of the samples. Meanwhile there have been 12 confirmed deaths due to dengue fever so far and one case is highly suspicious. Health Ministrys Dr Mike Kama said from October 30th last year to March 10th this year, 11,359 confirmed clinical cases have been recorded.

The Fijian government has extended the amnesty period for late birth registrations. The decision was made following a huge demand for the registration service in the Lau Group. Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said amnesty was granted after the government team which is currently conducting registrations in the Group requested for an extension. The demand for this service is so high in Lau that the team needs more time to finish their work and make sure no Fijian is left behind, he said. Sayed-Khaiyum said the response to governments amnesty has been very strong across the whole country, especially in rural and maritime communities.

High Demand Forces Amnesty Extension

We will release the final figures after the exercise is complete, but suffice it to say that the Bainimarama Government is tackling the problem of unregistered births in Fiji, following the neglect of past governments he said. The AG said even after amnesty ends, Government will continue its active campaign of visiting Fijis more isolated communities on a regular basis to give Fijians the opportunity to register new births and receive birth certificates for their children. A birth certificate is a Fijians ultimate proof of identity and they need one to access important services like education, social welfare, health care and registering to vote, he said. During this period, the usual fee of $11.50 will be waived for a registration made more than 12 months after birth.

Revitalising Fijis rice industry in the Northern Division will be a key objective behind regular meetings to be held between Government and the Rewa Rice Company in Dreketi. Government, through the Office of the Commissioner Northern, will now meet with the rice company in the North on a monthly basis as part of efforts to boost production. Acting Commissioner Northern Alipate Bolalevu said with a new rice mill expected to open soon in Dreketi, the focus now is to ensure consistent production. There were some constraints that were highlighted by the past task force and this included the budget allocated by the government, land preparations,

machineries and harvesting, Mr Bolalevu said. We have to contribute positively and be able to revitalize the rice production and also improve the mill production. He added that the new mill is expected to also secure employment for those living in nearby communities. Rewa Rice Mill manager, Ashrit Pratap said the biggest constraint the mill had was the age of the mill and its frequent breakdown. Mr Pratap said that the new mill should be up and running by the end of July. We are pleased that Government has allocated funding for the mills. We will ensure that we produce the best quality rice for market as well as local.

Labour Pays Out 25K In Compensation

The Ministry of Labour gave out another $25,000 for compensation to families of workers that died or received injuries in their line of work. Receiving $10, 000 was wife of late Fiji Military Forces Engineer soldier Eminoni Tubuna. Karalaini Tubuna told the media that the compensation was the first for her family to receive since her late husbands death in 2011. She said the money received today would be used for her two sons education. I thank the Ministry of Labour for this great help to my family, Tubuna said. Another recipient of the compensation fund was Mohini Lata, wife of late Satendra Swami who died while at work at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital as an Orderly. Swami was the sole bread winner in his family when he died in 2012. Lata said the money received would also be to help her two children with their education as her eldest daughter is looking forward to joining a tertiary institution next year. My daughter is in form 7 and my son is in form 4 at Gospel High School, Im really happy for this, at least we have received something instead of nothing, Lata said. Another recipient of the compensation fund from government were brothers Ravi Prakash and Ashish Prakash who received about $2,500 each for their late brother Alvin Prakash. Alvin was a police officer at the Samabula Police Station when he got injured in 2010 and died three years later. Minister for Labour Jone Usamate government legislations allow employers to pay compensations when their employees get injured or die in their line of work.

Australian Company Oz Dairy Accused On Chinese Television

Chinese television has accused an Australian dairy company of tampering with the expiry date on thousands of cans of baby formula. The issue could damage Australia's growing dairy market in China amid recent broader Chinese consumer concerns about quality control. Melbourne-based business Oz Dairy, which exports baby formula around the world, was among the companies listed in an annual television gala that aims to protect Chinese consumers. The host of the program said nearly 20,000 cans of the formula had conflicting use-by dates which appear to have been extended by a year. The Chinese distributor intercepted the product before it was put on sale. Oz Dairy managing director Christopher Murfett says the formula was within date and the mislabelling was just an innocent mistake. "The infant formula hasn't expired. It's simply a print mistake on a label," he said. "We're sincerely apologising to the China government and the China community. "Unfortunately, it happened through a process through the factory. We've addressed it and we've made sure that [it] can't happen again." The industry says demand for Australian baby formula has grown since the contamination scandal in 2008 where products made by a Chinese company were deliberately tainted with the chemical melamine, killing six children and poisoning nearly 300,000 others. Mr Murfett says Australian products are the best in the world and the negative publicity has already affected its business. "It's certainly put a dampener on our product itself for the Oz Milko brand," he said. Oz Dairy has recalled the 20,000 cans from China and plans to send replacements with the correct date labelling.

Japanese girl Sakurako Uehara remains in a serious condition in hospital, as she prepares for facial reconstruction treatment. The seven-year-old girl was savaged by four Staffordshire bull terrier-cross dogs two weeks ago at a Murupara property. Sakurako will have to undergo medical procedures three times a week for the "foreseeable future," doctors said. She was transferred to Middlemore Hospital, where she was now in a serious, but stable condition. A Middlemore spokeswoman said last week that Sakurako would need three medical procedures a week as part of reconstructions efforts. Plastic surgeon Zachary Moaveni said the attack was horrific and sustained, and that Sakurako would have been conscious throughout the attack and the medical process afterwards. "I don't think any of us were prepared for what we were going to see," he said. Sakurako had extensive injuries to her face and all her limbs. She had sustained more than 100 bites "any of which would make you wince," he said. He credited the retrieval team that first

responded to the attack with saving Sakurako's life. The medical team were now concentrating on cleaning, "debriding" the wounds and keeping her free from infection. He estimated she would be undergoing reconstruction efforts, probably until she reached adulthood. Intensivist Dr David Galler said Sakurako's wounds were "grossly contaminated". "She's got some risks, clearly, largely from infection," he said "She will be with us for some time." The injuries were complex as dog bites involved crushing injuries as well as the cuts.

A US student has been jailed for 18 months for hacking the online accounts of Miss Teen USA and more than 100 other women in several countries and threatening to publish nude photos of them. Jared James Abrahams surrendered in September to FBI agents probing socalled "sextortion" cases, in which he made demands in return for agreeing not to release the pictures. The investigation involved multiple victims in California, Canada, Moldova and Russia. The 20-year-old Abrahams, who hacked into as many as 150 online accounts and forced victims to engage in Skype sessions in which he convinced two teenagers to undress, made a plea deal with prosecutors in November. He pleaded guilty to four counts three of extortion and one of computer hacking - according to the US Attorney's office in Los Angeles. The most high-profile victim was Cassidy Wolf, who won the Miss Teen USA pageant in August. She and Abrahams graduated in 2012 from the same school in Temecula, about 150 kilometres south-east of Los Angeles. The plea agreement detailed how, starting last year and continuing until June, the computer science student hacked into computers, email and social media accounts. The pictures, sometimes nude in nature, were taken from webcams, said the plea deal, adding that Abrahams "extorted at least 12 young women in their late teens or early 20s in this

manner". Ms Wolf called investigators in March after receiving threatening emails containing nude photos of herself. The sender said he would distribute the pictures "all over the internet" unless she either sent him a personal video of herself, joined him on Skype for a fiveminute video chat during which she would have to do whatever he said, or sent him "good quality pics" of herself. "As digital devices, email accounts and social media accounts now contain the most intimate details of the public's daily lives, the impact of this type of hacking and extortion becomes more pronounced," prosecutors wrote. "In some cases, this type of criminal behaviour can be life-changing for the victims - especially for vulnerable victims who may feel it is impossible to rebuild their tarnished reputations." Abrahams was sentenced during a hearing in US District Court in Santa Ana at which he apologised to his victims and "acknowledged the violation and the severity of his conduct," defence lawyer Alan Eisner said. Mr Eisner said Abrahams' parents also spoke at the hearing, asking the judge to take into account their son's age and struggles with Asperger's syndrome. "Certain people are motivated by different things, and Jared's motivation we believe was not meant to be predatory or evil," Mr Eisner said. "We will acknowledge that that is the result, but his motivation was substantially to have social connections he was simply incapable of having.

Scam Targets Indian Migrants

Indian immigrants are being bullied out of thousands of dollars by overseas scammers who are threatening them with deportation. At least 11 Indian immigrants have fallen victim to the scam in the past six weeks, each paying about $3,000. Detective Sergeant Graham Shand said the scammers, who appeared to be based overseas, were targeting Indians who had recently returned from holidays in India. "I've had 11 complainants, all of Indian descent. All have flown over to India, and when they've arrived back in New Zealand they have been contacted by a number they believed to be Immigration New Zealand." They were told they had filled out immigration forms incorrectly and needed to pay money to Indian immigration services, Mr Shand said. "It was (sold to them as) a fee, a fine for the error they had made. Basically, they were bullied and told they could be deported." The immigrants were told to transfer funds to accounts in India through Credit Union, Mr Shand said. The victims were phoned by someone posing as an Immigration NZ employee. The number on their phones was an Immigration NZ-registered one in Auckland. It is believed the scammers used technology to disguise or change the number, called "caller ID spoofing". Police have not yet identified how the scammers knew to target Indian immigrants returning from India. "We've spoken to Immigration NZ and they haven't been able to identify a common link for where the information could be being sourced from."

Human body parts fell from the sky in the Saudi Arabian city of Jeddah on Sunday, with police saying they could be the remains of someone trapped in an aircraft's undercarriage bay. "Police received a telephone call at 2:30am from a witness reporting the fall of human remains at an intersection in Mushrefa neighbourhood" in the Red Sea city, spokesman Nawaf bin Naser al-Bouq said in a statement. Initial indications were that the remains "fell from a plane's landing gear," said Mr Bouq, adding that investigations were ongoing. The report came after a Saudi Arabian Airlines jet made an emergency landing in the city of Medina in the west of the kingdom, injuring 29 people on Sunday. That aircraft had been travelling from Iran's second city of Mashhad with 315

people on board. A spokesman for the General Authority of Civil Aviation said there was no connection between the emergency landing in Medina and the Jeddah incident. In a desperate attempt to cross borders, some people at poorly monitored airports climb inside the bays housing aircraft landing gear. Most of them freeze to death once the aircraft reach cruising altitude, but some survive. In 2010, the head of Beirut's airport security resigned after the death of a man who managed to hide in the undercarriage bay of a Saudi-bound jet. The man's body was found by a maintenance worker who was inspecting the gear of the Saudi-owned Nas Air Airbus A-320 after it landed in Riyadh.

Wireless Carriers Hike Prices Across Canada

Smartphone plans begin at $80/month Canadas big three wireless carriers have hiked the base prices for new plans by $5 in most markets over the past two months. Rogers, Telus and Bell Mobility now all charge $80 per month for new smartphone plans with a new contract, $5 more than what many of those same plans cost when they were introduced last year. The prices for other smartphone plans with more data cost upwards of $145. The price hikes affect every province except Manitoba and Saskatchewan. The $80 a month plan includes 500 MB of data, unlimited nationwide calling, unlimited messaging, voicemail and call display. Existing plans are unaffected. Last summer, in response to the incoming wireless code of conduct, the three wireless carriers simplified their pricing models for new plans. Instead of choosing different plans based on minutes, data and messaging, customers instead pay a baseline fee depending on the type of phone they have, and then add a basket of data which can be shared by members of the same household. Initially, those base prices were $55 per month for higher-priced smartphones such as a Samsung Galaxy S4 or iPhone 5s, $45 per month for other, cheaper smartphones, and $35 per month for already unlocked smartphones. The prices for all three of these base prices has been increased. Push for more competition The three companies came under fire by the federal government last year, which is pushing for a fourth wireless competitor in all four markets. Quebec-based Videotron was awarded 700 MHz licences in Ontario, B.C. and Alberta, and may emerge as a fourth wireless competitor in those markets. Manitoba and Saskatchewan, however, have more competitive pricing. Due to strong regional competitors in SaskTel and MTS, Bell and Rogers plans start at $65 per month with five GB of data. An equivalent plan elsewhere in the country costs $55 more per month. When asked for comment, a Rogers spokesperson said that "needs of our customers are changing as theyre doing more than ever before with their connected device." Telus said while it has raised the cost of its base plans in January, it has decreased the cost of its most widely used data add-ons last week. The media also asked Bell for comment on this story, but the company did not respond to inquiries.

Man Discovers $70,000 Lotto Win Was Actually $7.2M

After finding a winner while checking his lottery tickets at a Cochrane, Alta., convenience store last week, Michael Tkachyk drove home wondering what he and wife Deidre would do with $70,000. Turns out, he was a little off, however. I checked it at the ticket checker, but I didnt really know how much wed won there are no commas in the display, he said. Michael double-checked the ticket online when he got home, and to his surprise, it wasnt $70,000 theyd won in the March 5 draw, but $7.2 million. It looked so good, Ive never seen

anything like that before, he said. Deidre wasnt home, so Michael sent her a text. I said it was important, he said. Then I texted again and said it was urgent. Then I said it was really urgent. When Deidre finally called home, Michael shared the exciting news. It was pretty amazing, she said. It felt surreal, it still does. You cant even imagine how it feels until it actually happens. The Tkachyks havent made plans for the windfall, but they both say theyll continue working.

Canada's Finance Minister Jim Flaherty Resigns

Federal Finance Minister Jim Flaherty has resigned from cabinet to prepare for work in the private sector, he announced in a news release Tuesday. "Yesterday, I informed the prime minister that I am resigning from cabinet. This was a decision I made with my family earlier this year, as I will be returning to the private sector," Flaherty said in a statement. Conservative sources said that Flaherty spoke to his family at Christmas and made the decision then. He started calling close friends at 4 p.m. ET Tuesday, after the markets closed, to let them know of his decision. Flaherty isn't immediately going to a job in the private sector. "As I reflect on my almost two decades in politics, I am proud of the accomplishments of the governments I was part of, provincial and federal.... Now, I will focus on life beyond politics as I return to the private sector. I believe that I have served my country, province and constituents of WhitbyOshawa to the best of my abilities and thank them for their continued trust and support for almost two decades," Flaherty said in the statement. Flaherty is staying on as an MP for the time being, his spokesman said. Battled health problem Flaherty has spent more than a year dealing with health issues and has faced repeated questions about whether he would retire. A year ago, Flaherty disclosed he was being treated for a serious dermatological condition known as bullous pemphigoid. The treatment involved taking a strong steroid called prednisone, which is often accompanied by serious sideeffects. Flaherty said in his statement that he is "on the road to a full recovery" and that his departure from politics is "not related in any way" to his health. Last November, Flaherty told reporters he would run in 2015, but last month said in an interview that he wasn't sure. New Democrat finance critic Peggy Former MP Ted Menzies, who was Flaherty's parliamentary secretary for three years, said Flaherty was the longest-serving finance minister in the G7 when the global recession hit. "He provided leadership and guidance. So not only did he guide us through it, he helped other countries through it as well," said Menzies, who retired last year to become president of CropLife Canada. Flaherty's focus on slashing from the federal budget to return to balance from deficit, however, drew criticism from the groups whose funding was cut. Menzies said staying focused on the goal of a balanced budget was important. "That's why we're in the position that we're in today ... it's that kind of dogged determination to see it through," he said. Toronto MP Joe Oliver will become Canadas next finance minister, replacing Jim Flaherty who made the surprise announcement Tuesday that he was quitting his long tenure atop the economic portfolio. Prime Minister Stephen Harper was expected to confirm Wednesday that Oliver who is the natural resources minister would be tapped to take over in finance. It would be a dramatic promotion for the relative newcomer to politics. Oliver, who represents the Toronto riding of EglintonLawrence, was elected in just 2011.

Jim Flaherty
Nash said Flaherty had a "tough, tough job" during the recession and that he performed well, but that many people still haven't recovered from the recession. "There are other decisions that Jim Flaherty and the Conservative government took that certainly our party disagreed with in terms of cutting programs and services, changes to [Employment Insurance], bringing in austerity measures rather than continuing with some modest stimulus to help the economy fully recover," Nash said. "There are political and economic differences. Having said that, no one would doubt the sincerity and work ethic of Jim Flaherty." 'Hack and slash' Liberal Deputy Leader Ralph Goodale said it will be tough for the government to fill the hole created by Flaherty's departure from the finance role. "I think he'll also be criticized for that focus [on cutting spending] because it was to the exclusion of everything else and, quite frankly, you cannot hack and slash your way to prosperity. You also need to invest in the underpinnings of growth, like infrastructure, for example, and post-secondary education," Goodale said. "We will disagree about his policy accomplishments or failures, that's natural in political life. But on a day like this when he has stepped aside, I certainly want to wish him well."

Government is delivering on its Mental Health Action Plan to improve care for patients with severe addiction and mental health needs by launching an Assertive Outreach Team in Vancouver and opening a new Acute Behavioural Stabilization Unit at St. Paul's Hospital. "In the past, we have seen patients with severe mental illness and addiction cycle through our health-care and justice system," said Health Minister Terry Lake. "The Vancouver team is the first of its kind in B.C. and, combined with the expansion of services at St. Paul's Hospital, we will be able to provide more complete and supportive care to this vulnerable patient group." The Assertive Outreach Team includes a nurse, social worker, psychiatrist, physician and Vancouver Police Department staff. Members of the team work together to support patients who suffer from severe addictions and mental health issues and transition them from local emergency departments in Vancouver to appropriate community services. "We recognized that individuals with severe mental health and addiction challenges have difficulty connecting to community supports after their medical needs have been met," said Anne McNabb, Vancouver Coastal Health's director of mental health and addiction, inner city. "This team takes a rapid, hands-on approach to ensure patients are completing the transition from acute care to community care." The Assertive Outreach Team is a collaboration between Vancouver

Coastal Health, the Vancouver Police Department, Providence Health Care and Mental Health Emergency Services. The $1.2-million program is expected to substantially increase Vancouver Coastal Health's capacity to serve clients who are not currently engaged with traditional mental health and addiction services. "Our ultimate goal would be to guarantee the safety and well-being of every person we encounter who is suffering from mental illness," said VPD Inspector Ralph Pauw. "Assertive Outreach Teams in our communities bring us a step closer to that goal." The Assertive Outreach Team will help support patients transitioning from the new Acute Behavioural Stabilization Unit at St. Paul's. This new unit is

open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and provides nine dedicated emergency psychiatric beds located in a separate area of St. Paul's emergency department. A first of its kind for Vancouver, the unit offers short stay admissions (up to 48 hours) and was renovated to increase the capacity of St. Paul's emergency department to treat this complex patient population. "St. Paul's Hospital has seen a 63% increase in the number of patients it treats with mental illness and addictions issues since 2009," said Dr. Anna Nazif, medical director emergency psychiatry, St. Paul's Hospital. "This area provides us with an opportunity to further improve the care we provide to patients."

The unit is staffed with an interdisciplinary team of emergency physicians, emergency nurses, psychiatrists, registered psychiatric nurses, psychiatric assessment nurses and social workers, and receives input from addictions consultants. Staffing levels have been increased to include a clinical nurse leader/educator, an emergency room nurse and a social worker. "Addressing the interplay that often exists between severe addiction and mental illness is an important step to ensure we can provide appropriate care to this vulnerable population," said Dianne Doyle, president and CEO of Providence Health Care. "As the primary hospital serving Vancouver's Downtown Eastside, St. Paul's Hospital is committed to further enhancing our care to patients who have mental illness and the complexity of co-occurring illnesses such as addiction." These two supports are part of the strategies being developed in response to the report, Improving Health Services for Individuals with Severe Addiction and Mental Illness. The Ministry of Health is making available a total of $20 million for regional health authorities to invest in more local programs and supports to improve care for this high needs population. In November 2013, the Ministry of Health created a mental health action plan to reduce barriers and service gaps, and support evidencebased solutions for patients with severe addictions and mental illness.

Things You Shouldn't Say To Your Child

Continued From Last Week

Coloring

Next: What you should say instead of "Hurry up!" "Hurry Up!" Who in this world of back-to-back appointments, overbooked schedules, sleep deficits, and traffic snarls hasn't uttered these immortal words? Certainly every parent whose toddler can't find his shoes or blankie or who's blissfully oblivious of anything but putting on his socks "all by self!" has. Consider, though, your tone of voice when you implore a child to hurry, and how often you say it. If you're starting to whine, screech, or sigh every day, with your hands on your hips and your toes tapping, beware. There's a tendency when we're rushed to make our kids feel guilty for making us rush. The guilt may make them feel bad, but it doesn't motivate them to move faster. It got so hectic at my house in the mornings, I hated that the last image my kids had of me was being angry. So I made a pact with myself. No matter what, I wouldn't yell or roll my eyes even if someone spilled their Cheerios or asked me to find something just as we were heading out. Rather than hectoring ("I told you to turn off that TV five minutes ago!"), he looks for calm ways to speed things along (he turns off the set himself). Next: Why "Great job!" isn't the

best praise "Great Job!" or "Good Girl!" What could possibly be wrong with praise? Positive reinforcement, after all, is one of the most effective tools a parent has. The trouble comes in when the praise is vague and indiscriminate. Tossing out "Great job!" for every little thing your child does -- from finishing his milk to drawing a picture -- becomes meaningless. Kids tune it out. They can also tell the difference between praise for doing something rote or simple and praise for a real effort. To get out of the habit of such effusiveness: Praise only those accomplishments that require real effort. Finishing a glass of milk doesn't cut it. Neither does drawing a picture, if your child is the kind who makes dozens of them every day. Be specific. Instead of "Beautiful job," say, "What bright, happy colors you picked for the dog's spots." Or "I see you drew a picture of the story that we read this morning." Praise the behavior rather than the child: "You were so quiet with your puzzle while I was finishing that paperwork, just like I asked." How much nicer if I'd said that to my daughters instead of transforming into a spewing volcano. Luckily, I'm sure to get another opportunity tomorrow.

Eating foods that contain vitamin C may reduce your risk of the most common type of hemorrhagic stroke, says a study. Vitamin C is found in fruits and vegetables such as oranges, papaya, peppers, broccoli and strawberries. Hemorrhagic stroke is less common than ischemic stroke, but is more often deadly. The study involved 65 people who had experienced an intra-cerebral hemorrhagic stroke, or a blood vessel rupture inside the brain. They were compared to 65 healthy people. Participants were tested for the levels of vitamin C in their blood. Forty-one percent of cases had normal levels of vitamin C, 45 percent showed depleted levels of vitamin C and 14 percent were

considered deficient of the vitamin. On average, the people who had a stroke had depleted levels of vitamin C, while those who had not had a stroke had normal levels of the vitamin. 'Our results show that vitamin C deficiency should be considered a risk factor for this severe type of stroke, as were high blood pressure, drinking alcohol and being overweight in our study,' said study author Stphane Vannier with Pontchaillou University Hospital in Rennes, France. Vannier added that vitamin C appeared to have other benefits like creating collagen, a protein found in bones, skin and tissues. Vitamin C deficiency has also been linked to heart disease.

Simple Food Allergy In Kids May Lead To Severe One

Children who outgrow one type of food allergy may develop a more severe and persistent type of allergy to the same food, experts say. They suggest that physicians and parents carefully monitor children with food allergies to recognise early signs of eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) - a severe and often painful allergy that has been increasing in recent years. "These two types of allergy have some elements in common, but patients with EoE usually do not go on to develop tolerance to the foods that trigger EoE," said paediatric allergist Jonathan M. Spergel from Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. EoE involves swelling and inflammation of the esophagus. Often painful, EoE may cause weight loss, vomiting, heartburn and swallowing difficulties. It can affect any age group, but is often discovered first in children experiencing feeding difficulties and failure to thrive. The researchers team compared EoE with IgE-mediated food allergy - the more familiar type of food allergy. Nuts, eggs or milk, for example, may trigger hives, other skin reactions, vomiting or other symptoms. The researchers performed a retrospective analysis of 1,375 children for EoE between 2000-12. Of that number, 425 children could be shown to have a definite food causing their condition - most commonly milk, egg, soy and wheat. Within that subgroup, 17 patients had developed EoE to a food after having outgrown IgE-mediated allergy to that specific food. "The pattern we found in those 17 patients suggests that the two types of food allergy operate by different mechanisms and cause different functional changes," Spergel said. "However, this pattern also raises the possibility that prior IgE-mediated food allergy may predispose a patient to developing EoE to the same food." According to the research, patients who undergo desensitisation therapy for IgE-mediated foods allergies subsequently develop EoE to the same food - a fact that physicians should consider in managing care for patients with food allergies. In desensitisation therapy, a clinician exposes a patient to miniscule amount of an allergy-producing food, then gradually increases the amount aiming for the patient to become tolerant to that food.

As one grows older, one is less likely to yawn when others do, a recent study has found According to scientists, contagious yawning is linked more closely to a person's age than their ability to empathise, as previously thought. It also showed a stronger link to age than tiredness or energy levels, a report said. Researchers are now looking at whether the ability to catch yawns from other people is inherited, with the hope of helping treat mental health disorders. Autism and schizophrenia sufferers are reportedly less able to catch yawns, researchers said, so understanding the genes that might code for contagious yawning could illuminate new pathways for treatment. "This is the first study to look at a whole bunch of factors. It is the largest study, in terms of the number of people involved, to date," she said, adding that she did not know why contagious yawning decreased with age. She added that although age was the most important predictor of contagious yawning, only 8 percent of the variation in whether or not a participant yawned was explained by their age. "The vast

Catching A Yawn Linked To Age, Says Study

majority of variation in the contagious yawning response was just not explained." The study used questionnaires to test the participants' empathy, levels of tiredness and sleep patterns. During the study, 328 participants were shown a three-minute video showing other people yawning. Each subject had to click a button every time they yawned. Overall, 68 percent of the participants yawned. Of those, 82 percent of people aged under 25 yawned, compared with 60 percent of people aged between 25 and 49, and 41 percent of people aged over 50. The professor of psychology at the University of Maryland, said the study was "unique" as it marked the first time a link between ageing and contagious yawning had been shown. He said the study would "help to get down to the neurological nitty-gritty of contagious behaviours" and mental health disorders such as autism and schizophrenia. The findings could also help to understand why laughing and coughing were so contagious.

How To Cope With Fatigue After A Stroke New research suggests that dreams of everyday lives.
returning to everyday life as it was before the stroke may contribute to the patients' experiences of fatigue and that it may be a help to establish new routines instead of trying to regain old ones. "Having a stroke can be a devastating experience, and those affected by one often feel that their lives are turned upside down. For many patients, life after a stroke is therefore about reestablishing life as it was before the stroke. But this is very rarely possible and thus a source of frustration for stroke patients," ethnologist Michael Andersen from University of Copenhagen, said. Andersen's PhD thesis was carried out in collaboration with a Danish hospital, where doctors found it hard to find a correlation between the size or the impact of the stroke and the individual experiences of fatigue. He located other potential reasons for the fatigue than the patients' brains - their

When we're stressed, our sympathetic nervous system kicks in. And one consequence of that is that it cuts the production of saliva. As a result, the mouth becomes dry. Anything that dries the mouth makes bad breath worse. The gases released by bacteria are usually contained by saliva and swallowed. But if you have a dry mouth -- known as xerostomia -- the saliva evaporates so the gases are released. Furthermore, the bacteria can stick to the mouth more, making things worse. There are particular types of bacteria found on the tongue that can also contribute to bad breath. You may assume a mouthwash will freshen breath, but some that contain alcohol can actually do the reverse. Sleeping with your mouth open, smoking,

When interviewing the patients Andersen noticed that they no longer related their fatigue to the same objects or actions as they did pre-stroke. "In our everyday lives we link fatigue with specific objects or actions which we hardly even notice; it can be a bed or making a cup of tea in the evening. After a stroke, many patients feel constantly fatigued without being able to locate it," Andersen said. According to him, locating fatigue in other objects and actions than before can be a successful approach when trying to restore an everyday life - not the same as before, but a completely new one. Andersen suggests that stroke patients might learn to cope with their fatigue if they - in collaboration with their own doctor - learned to think of fatigue in relation to specific objects or actions. This could frame the patients' fatigue so it does not become a phenomenon defining their lives.

important but difficult for any runner. So it is essential to keep a check on your body while jogging. A fitness expert shares his tips in managing joint pain to help prevent sporting injuries and maintain healthy strong joints. * Maintain healthy weight: This can be beneficial on joints. One study claimed that losing about a pound of weight delivers almost a four pound reduction in knee joint load for each step. * Warm up/cool down: Invest time to ensure the body is prepared for exercise by undertaking warm-up activities at the start of your session. The cooldown phase will help you to gradually reduce the intensity of activity and soreness in the joints and muscles.

flexibility: Flexibility injury can occur when a joint is taken outside of its comfortable range of motion. A good test of strength and flexibility is the wall squat. Stand facing a wall, with your feet just wider than hip-width and your hands on your temples. Try to squat down so your thighs are parallel to the floor, without your knees or any other part of your body touching the wall on the way up or down. Aim to complete five squats standing just an inch away from the wall. * Allow time for recovery: Knee injury can increase the chances of developing and aggravating osteoarthritis in many people. Should injury occur, allow enough time for full recovery and seek professional advice if symptoms persist.

Stress Can Result In Bad Breath

drinking coffee and exercising without hydrating properly also dry out the mouth. Sjogren's syndrome, an auto-immune condition where the body attacks the tear and salivary glands, reducing the production of fluid, can also lead to bad breath brought on by a dry mouth. Another cause of bad breath is salivary stones blocking the salivary glands. These form when food debris reacts with chemicals in the saliva. This crystallises into a stone that can block the salivary ducts, stopping saliva flow and causing dryness and bad breath. Bad breath may also occur if you stick to a low-carb diet. In the absence of carbohydrates for energy, the liver breaks down fat instead. This produces chemicals called ketones, which have a distinct metallic smell. This can also happen in people with uncontrolled diabetes because the liver can't break down sugar, so breaks down fat instead.

Bharti, Sunil, Kiku To Make Their Regional Film Debuts

Comedians Bharti Singh, Sunil Pal and Kiku Sharda (Palak of 'Comedy Nights with Kapil') make their Marathi film debut with Famous, directed by National award-winning director Shivaji Lotan Patil. The film is about a journalist who makes and breaks stars' careers, but in a funny way. Bharti says, `I got a chance to give a lot of inputs to my character. The Marathi film industry has a history of delivering blockbusters and I am happy to be a part of it.`

"You Dont Have The Talent": Rishi Kapoor Blasts Nawazuddin Siddiqui
A war of words has erupted between two unlikely candidates: Rishi Kapoor and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. Both are talented actors, belong to different generations and are poles apart as far as film choices, lineage and career go but that hasnt stopped them from taking potshots at each other, though from the chain of events, it appears Nawazuddin is not willing to take on Rishi who shows no signs of stopping. So how did it all begin? Apparently, Nawazuddins take on clichd romantic and formulaic films and running around trees has had Rishi hopping mad. Rishi, who does not like negative remarks on his profession, apparently said: I have read that some actor named Nawazuddin said that romantic heroes just run around trees! It is difficult to bloody sing songs and romance the heroine. How could he say such a thing? Nawazs reply: What I meant was that when you do the same thing over and over again, for 30 to 40 years, it becomes easy to follow the same format. Ek hi tarah ka romance... it is all so clichd. Well guess what? Rishi wasnt about to let up on this one! He blasted, You (Nawazuddin) havent done it (running around trees) in your life; neither will you get a chance to do it. And you arent capable of doing it either. You dont have the image; you dont have the talent. And Nawaz shot back, He cant say that, I will improve myself. If I had to romance in a film, I will do it differently, whether it works or not. I respect Rishi Kapoor, I am his big fan. If he feels I am an average actor, it is a compliment. Actually, I am below average. He is extremely talented, and I am still trying to be an actor. What next Rishi?

I Am Looking Forward To Singham 2 - Kajol

Ekta Kapoors Ragini MMS 2 starring the sexy Sunny Leone releases this week. Since the release is just around the corner Ekta has been promoting the film with the former adult actor and is leaving no stone unturned. The two are seen on promotional events, television shows, interviews among a lot of other activities. In a recent interview to a leading daily, the Kapoor girl said, I would love to be Sunny at least for a day to know that every man is thinking of me sexually. Id love it. I dont know Sunny, but perception for me is the main thing basis which I decide who I want to work with. Objectification of

I Would Like To Be Sunny Leone At Least For A Day Ekta

sex happens in the mind of the person who objectifies. Your mind is dirty when you objectify a woman. A man when he removes his shirt is called a Casanova. When a woman wears something revealing, she is called a Slut. In your house you check her out, in public you ridicule her. For me, Sunny is Silk (The Dirty Picture) in some way. She is a woman who is comfortable with her sexuality. I am honoured working with Sunny. The boys may like some other scenes from the film, but for me, as an actor, she has done such a good job that in the end she takes the film with her and I felt happy for her.

B-town beauty Kajol, who loved her husband Ajay Devgans performance in Singham, says she is eagerly waiting to watch its sequel. I am looking forward to watch Singham 2. I have not heard its script, but I have got to know that its a very interesting film. He is working hard for the film and I am sure its going to be good, Kajol told in an interview.

Singham which released in 2010 featured Ajay and Kajal Aggarwal in the lead roles. Reportedly, Kajol was seen whistling while watching Singham in a single screen. This wife sure knows how to enjoy a film and at the same time encourage her husband, hai na? Directed by Rohit Shetty, Singham 2 features Ajay and Kareena.

I have been tremendously excited for The Amazing Spider-Man 2s release ever since the first trailer came out, and when I was offered to voice Electro for the Hindi version, I was immediately interested in this unique opportunity. Max Dillon/Electro is an immensely fascinating and complex character and it will be interesting to face off with Spider-Man. After my turn as super villain Kaal in Krrish 3, whose 250 crore box office was incredibly gratifying, this is just the icing on the cake. I have already begun dubbing and am looking forward to the films release on May 1st!.

Kirron Kher Termed As An Outsider In Chandigarh, Welcomed With Eggs And Black Flags
Little did Bollywoods favourite Punjabi mom expect that she would receive such a cold welcome in Chandigarh Kirron Khers recent visit to Chandigarh proved to be a disaster. The actor is contesting the Lok Sabha elections this year on behalf of the Bharatiya Janat Party (BJP). Not only was her car pelted with eggs, but there was a section of her own party members labeling her outsider and showing black flags in protest against her nomination from Chandigarh to contest polls. Kirron was accompanied by husband Anupam Kher, who seemed not just happy but extremely supportive about his wifes political aspirations. Ms Kher beat former Union Minister Harmohan Dhawan, Satya Pal Jain, and Chandigarh BJP president Sanjay Tandon to be named as BJPs candidate from Chandigarh. Kirron herself downplayed the whole drama around her visit and rubbished the outsider claims, she said, I am a daughter of Chandigarh. I was born and brought up here. I have lived here. Those opposing me are also from the BJP family. We will pacify them. Kirrons husband actor Anupam Kher seemed positive about his wifes political innings, he said in a recent interview, I am not associated with any political party. I have only campaigned once that was 25 years ago. But I have known Kirron since 1974. For many years she was my friend and she has been my wife for 28 years. If I campaign for anybody that would only be Kirron and I will definitely go. Apart from her own party workers, Kirron will be facing stiff opposition in Chandigarh from Aam Admi Party (AAP) representative and Bollywoods another dimpled beauty Gul Panag, who will also contest elections from Chandigarh this year. Interestingly both these dimpled beauties have had a connection in the past, Gul was dating Kirrons son Sikander Kher for sometime before they parted ways. This election certainly doesnt lack the filmi tadka or masala. There seems to be enough action and drama, however only time will which of these two B-towns dimpled actors will finally emerge a winner in the Lok Sabha polls.

The latest Bollywood buzz is that actress Katrina Kaif has bagged the lead role in, Raees starring SRK. A few days ago, the movie was in the news when Nawazuddin Siddiqui replaced Farhan Akhtar in the film. According to media reports, it seems that Katrina has apparently been offered the film. A source was quoted in the media as saying, Katrina is in talks to play the lead role. They have been discussing it for a while now, but latest developments suggest that she has given them a goahead. This will be her second film with Shah Rukh Khan after Jab Tak Hai Jaan. Post Bang Bang, Katrina will be working on Jagga Jasoos opposite Ranbir Kapoor, but it looks like this film will be pushed ahead. Besides these two films, she doesnt have too much on her plate as of now, so a lead role in Raees is just right for her, another source reportedly added. But reportedly Katrina has denied being offered the film. And reports said the director of the movie, Rahul Dholakia, was not unavailable for a comment. After a successful career as a model, Katrina made her acting debut in 2003, with a role in Kaizad Gustads

Katrina Set To Romance Shahrukh Khan Again

box office hit Boom. But after this, Katrina was almost written off. Later, she was seen in a Telugu film a hit romantic comedy Malliswari in 2004. The Bollywood star got her commercial success with such romantic comedies as Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya? and Namastey London and the latter earned her critical acclaim for her performance in the movie. Katrina then appeared in a series of roles in movies that were box-office hits, although she was criticized for having to do very little in male-centric films such as Partner in 2007, Welcome in 2007 and Singh Is Kinng in 2008. The terrorism drama film New York in 2009 marked a turning point in her acting career, which earned her praise as well as a Filmfare Award for Best Actress nomination. Her more prominent roles in hit films are in Raajneeti in 2010, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara in 2011 and Mere Brother Ki Dulhan also in 2011 and Ek Tha Tiger in 2012. She also appeared in the action thriller Dhoom 3 in 2013, which is one of the highest-grossing Bollywood films of all time. Besides acting in films, Katrina also supports charitable organisations, and performs for stage shows.

Set in modern Mumbai we are quickly intruded to the hustle and bustle of living In this thriving city. Old practices die hard and many in the business community (i.e. workers) have their lunches prepared at home by their lives ones. For years delivery services pick up lunches at homes and by bicycles deliver them to the designated breadwinners at their work place. Normally things go without a hitch. So when one lunch goes astray it sets off a chain of events that makes The Lunchbox one of the best films of the year, Lucky recipient of this mystery lunch is veteran numbers man Saajan Fernandes. Highly regarded by his company this mild-mannered man is

swept away with his new found lucky lunches and wistfully embodied by top talent Irrfan Kahn. This food is so good Saajan tries to conceal his blessing and a very strange bond develops that must be seen to be believed. Back home, far away from the maddening crowds is chef extraordinaire Ila, played with poise and elegant charm by Nimrat Kaur. They say the way to a man's heart is through the stomach and The Lunchbox delivers the goods in a fresh way that will leave a lasting impression on audiences. Sit-down meals take on a whole new life when watching the revelations of a humble worker at the end of his ropes who derives distinct pleasure whenever meal time arrives. Problems on the job further heighten the tension in this 104 minute flavourful film . Watch out for the playful moments of new worker Shaikh, whimsically revealed by Nawazuddin Siddiqui . Full of intrigue, surprises and great diverse characters this film is inspirational and cleverly written and directed by Riyesh Batra. Quite simply, you don't want this film to end!

Nymphomaniac ((PG). ****

Action speaks louder than words. Even the title of the latest release from Mongrel Media may throw some people off. Pity. Brave souls who take in Nymphomaniac at the Vancity Theatre on Seymour Street will be justly rewarded. Well worth a visit this searing drama features superb performances and an interesting glimpse into the life of one lonely, desperate woman. Controversial director Lars Von Trier has a reputation for pushing the envelop when creating meaningful film experiences. Here is no exception. Into the dark recesses of the mind we go to glimpse into the eventful ( and unforgettable ) life of our central character, a woman named Joe. Our heroine/victim is played at two stages in her life: young and old. To learn more about this woman's plight we see her budding sexuality as expressed by newcomer Stacy Martin before turning to her more mature/ ripened wants and urges as conveyed by Charlotte Gainsbourg (21 Grams), Many films are told in flashback style with limited success. Von Trier does a great job introducing Joe as a victim whose taken in by a Good Samaritan called Seligman, played to perfection and with abundant thought, wisdom and strained sincerity by Swedish acting ace Stellan Skarsgard (Mama Mia!). Over time and by way of a very long bedside chat we bear witness to an unbelievable story that centers on sex and obsessive behaviour. Left used and abused we see this woman's introduction to sex as a girl, then teen before becoming even more infatuated with her body. She just can't get enough. Earthy delights give way to more kinky abuse as Joe becomes a production line for men wanting her body and vice versa. Experimentations with carnal cravings have no bounds for this lady as she indulges in threesomes and multiple partners before getting into more violent scenes such as S & M. Humiliation, pain and unexpected twists and turns abound in this tour de force which includes standout work by Uma Thurman as a scorned wife and Shia LaBeouf (Transformers) as another bedpost notch. Nudity that is meaningful despite being

Jilted!

graphic, realistic sex scenes and witty dialogue that somehow links fly fishing, religion and even James Bond to this wandering journey into lust and hidden dark desires make Nymphomaniac an eye-opener. Shown in two volumes with separate screenings of 108 and 123 minutes

Nymphomaniac is one or in this case two movies that will keep you engaged from start to finish with plenty of surprises sprinkled throughout its twisted course. For show times of this special movie go to www.viff.org or call (604) 6833456

Natural Ways to Remove Blackheads

4. Use a Cosmetic Clay Mask to Soak Up the Oils You do not have to have a special $50 jar of facial mask clay for this. You do not have to put essential oil into your mask (if you dont want to, but you can). All you need is cosmetic clay and water (or apple cider vinegar, which is how I like to do it). Where do you get cosmetic clay? Mountain Rose Herbs carries a variety of it at very reasonable prices (bentonite, french green, rhassoul, and fullers earth). But if you have a local herb shop, the chances are, theyll have some there, too. How to make a blackhead-busting mask with clay:

Again, you can add goodies like rosewater or a drop or two of essential oils to your clay, but this is not necessary for removing blackheads. So the basics are: Combine 1 Tbsp clay with 1 Tbsp apple cider vinegar (or pure water) and stir until you have a paste without lumps in it. Spread over your whole clean face, or just the areas where you have blackheads. Allow this to dry for 1520 minutes. Take a warm, wet washcloth and press it to the mask for a few seconds, and then slowly and gently wipe off. 5. If All Else Fails, Take a Clean Toothbrush to the Area Do not use this method unless all else fails.

This is absolutely the most extreme measure you should go to in clearing your blackheads (with squishing and squeezing being THE most extreme measure there is). Use a dedicated toothbrush only for blackhead cleaning. Do NOT use your mouth toothbrush ever. In

between scrubbing blackheads, dunk your toothbrush in a glass of hydrogen peroxide to keep it clean. How to do this: Using a soft bristled brush (NOTHING FIRMER), pour a small amount of lemon juice on the toothbrush, along with a drop or two of oily-skin friendly oil like jojoba, tamanu, or neem. VERY gently scrub your blackhead areas with the head of your toothbrush. You can rinse with water and reapply with lemon and oil if you feel like you need to. Just do this gently. In circular motions. And dont go crazy. Also, dont do this more than once a week. Dont do it around your eyes. And do NOT do this on any open sores, scratches, or cuts. Ever. Promise? If you avoid anywhere delicate, it should be just fine. I just wanted to be overly dramatic, so you understand that you shouldnt brush your whole face with lemon juice and a toothbrush. An Ounce of Prevention pound of cure and all that. Here are a few ways you can prevent blackheads before they happen. Maybe not always and forever, but most of the time. (I have noticed approximately 3 blackheads on my nose in the last three months, down from seeing them almost every day two years ago, if that makes you feel better.) Ways to prevent blackheads: Dont wash your face with harsh cleansers. This makes your skin overreact and produce more oil, which means your blackheads will be back much faster. DO wash your face twice a day with natural sources. (Say, the no-nonsense daily scrub in the morning and the honey wash with baking soda in the evening.) Wear makeup as little as possible. Wash your pillowcase on a weekly basis (to clean off any dead skin cells and oils your face leaves behind on it). Use an astringent like witch hazel or apple cider vinegar after you wash your face and before you moisturize (this will help get rid of any residual gunkiness and tighten the pores a bit). Once every two weeks, use a facial steam to help open your pores and let them unclog. Consider using the oil cleansing method to wash your face (pop over and read this thread in the Crunchy Community to see why). Make a homemade peel-off mask with gelatin and tomato juice. Blot your face with tissue paper throughout the day to soak up oil before it can accumulate.

Relationships

When a woman hears the words "I want a divorce," the turmoil of the separation can propel her to make some horrible mistakes that can cause a lot of trouble later. A divorce attorney has revealed the 6 biggest mistakes that women make in a divorce. 1. Women should not panic and should go online and find out everything that they need to know. They should meet a lawyer or more than one lawyer and find out what their rights are. Women should remember that they are not going to get kicked out of their home immediately just because their husband is not paying their rent or mortgage anymore and should not get intimidated into agreeing to a settlement before they are ready to. 2. They should not just go for a free consultation and its better if they can avoid it, as they will get better legal advice if they pay for it. 3.Women should not borrow money from family, as they should save those resources for another time. Instead, they should see if they can borrow against their home or get a credit card. If they are financially dependent on their husband, then he is responsible for paying for at least part of their representation. 4. Females should not allow their former spouse to intimidate them, as when their husband tells them that their lawyer just wants to make money, that's an intimidation tactic. Their husband may know how to scare them, but he doesn't know how to scare their lawyer. 5. Women should not commit adultery even if their husband has been carrying on an affair, as starting one of their own will only add emotional heat to their divorce. Many times when wives feel lonely, but husbands get angry, and make everything difficult. 6. They should not demand money before they have made up a budget, as it is important to make one so that all their needs are addressed.

6 Mistakes Women Make In A Divorce

Surely your guy is great, but there are certain things that he does that get you angry. Here is a list of the annoying things he does and how you can deal with it He texts during your date Surely when you see him texting to someone or taking a business call when he's just supposed to be with you can surely get you annoyed. But relationship experts say that this behaviour does not indicate him to be rude. And you don't have to get upset with this behaviour. You can always tell him politely that you thought he'd be spending time with you and not worry about his work when he's out with you. He says, 'I don't care' when you ask for his opinion When guys have no clue about what you want, they go mute. So if you ask their opinion about something they don't know about - they resort to 'I don't care'. Make sure that you let him know of your interests. In case he is bored and does not wish to respond - tell him that his opinion is of great importance to you. He mostly stays quiet when he comes home from work He's usually tired chasing deadlines during work. When he's back from work, make sure you give him some time to spend on his own. If you immediately start bothering him with going out for dinner or talking to him - chances are he might get irritated with you. Being alone for sometime will give him some time to liven up his spirits and recharge his mood before he gets talking to you. He gets irritated with you when you take more time to get ready This is very common. Guys usually take less time to get ready and once they are ready, they get bored waiting for you to get done. Make sure he has something constructive to do once he's ready. Ask him to call up and check whether the reservation at the restaurant is done or ask him to take the dog for a walk while you get ready in the meantime.

"Slow Down, Kids Playing" Signs To Help Keep Children Safe During Spring Break

As spring break is here and drivers are reminded to pay close attention to their surroundings when driving through areas where kids are likely to be present. To help parents and other B.C. residents prepare for the increase in the presence of kids outdoors, BCAA is offering free Slow Down, Kids Playing signs that can be displayed on residential properties in order to help make roads safer for children across the province. According to the BC Coroners Service, over 2,400 child pedestrians are seriously injured and approximately 30 are killed each year in Canada. Kids between 5 and 14 are at the greatest risk for pedestrian-related injuries and fatalities. As the weather warms up, more and more children venture outside to play in their front yards, on their streets and in neighbourhood playgrounds. The Slow Down, Kids Playing signs are a way of reminding drivers to pay close attention when driving through residential areas and near playgrounds and to expect the unexpected. In its efforts to improve road safety efforts, BCAA has identified two key areas of risk for child pedestrians: driver behavior such as speeding, making U-turns, stopping in nostopping zones, and rolling through or backing up into crosswalks and pedestrian distraction, which include the use of cell phones and other personal electronic devices. A study reports that children who talk on cell phones while crossing the street are up to one-third more likely to be hit or nearly hit by a car. Research from the Public Health Agency of Canada also indicates that up to 10 per cent of injuries to pedestrians under the age of 24 were the result of them running into the street without looking for example, because they were running

after a ball. BCAA recommends that drivers, along with parents and guardians take the following precautions to ensure the safety of our kids during spring break and as we move into warmer weather. Tips for drivers: Slow down and watch out for kids in or near school and residential areas, intersections and crosswalks, and be prepared to stop. Look for clues such as "Slow Down, Kids Playing" signs, School Zone signs, patrollers, bicycles, and playgrounds. Expect the unexpected such as kids darting out from between parked cars. Always check for pedestrians when youre backing up, and be aware that kids could be present on any side of the vehicle. Follow the rules of the road yield to pedestrians and do not make U-turns, roll through stop signs or stop in no-stopping zones. Tips for parents/guardians: Teach your kids to find a safe place to cross the road such as patrolled or marked crosswalks. Make sure they look both ways and make eye contact with drivers before they cross the street. Make it a rule for kids to stay off their cell phones or electronic devices while crossing the street make sure they focus on the road and surrounding environment. Teach your kids to look out for parked cars as cars may pull out or start moving when they don't expect it. Make sure your kids wear bright or reflective clothing so they can be seen in the dark or in poor weather. If they ride a bike, make sure they always wear a helmet and clothing with reflective strips. Equip their bike with lights, reflectors and a bell.

Ticket prices for FIFAs second largest mens global tournament were unveiled Monday at the conclusion of a 10 day venue visit by FIFAs inspection team. One of the ways to do this was to reduce the price for fans to see as many games at their venue as possible, with venue packs including all group matches and the round of 16 knock out games across the seven venues. Beeche said that the Local Organising Committee had surveyed fans across the country in order to get the ticket pricing right. Within the football community this tournament is seen as the must-see event in 2015, they realise that this may be their only opportunity to see the next Messi or Maradona live in their backyard. FIFAs Marion Mayer-Vorfelder, Head of the FIFA U-20 World Cup who will over-see her fifth edition of this tournament in New Zealand, reiterated Beeches comments: New Zealanders will be overwhelmed by the standard and quality of football played in this tournament, it really is the launch pad of our next international footballing superstars and we would urge all sports fans not to miss out on seeing these players in action. The announcement of ticket pricing came at the end of a 10 day tour of New Zealand by a FIFA inspection team, who have been looking at the seven host city stadiums, training venues and hotels to assess their readiness to host the worlds best young footballers. Mayer-Vorfelder said her team had been hugely impressed with facilities across New Zealand as well as the

commitment and enthusiasm shown by the Host Cities and Football Federations. The key to the success of hosting such a globally significant tournament is collaboration with partners. Having met the team responsible for staging this festival of football, we feel hugely confident that the event is in very safe hands in New Zealand. I was fortunate enough to see Lionel Messi play at this tournament only in 2005, and it is this caliber of player which fans in New Zealand will get to see live in 2015. Already I can feel the anticipation building across the country. The FIFA U-20 Trophy was also on display for the ticket announcement in Auckland. My body wasnt used to training every day but Im now getting used to it, he said. I want to show what I can do in the next four games and then have a full pre-season to get in really good shape.
