TUU SPORTS COUNCIL GENERAL INFORMATION 2011

The aim of this publication is to promote the TUU affiliated sports clubs at UTAS. Information about the 2011 Australian University Sport Championships for each sport and a list with contact details of each club is also included. e wish to encoura!e all students to consider playin! a sport while at university. It is not "ust about competin!. It#s about socialisin!$ havin! fun and %eepin! fit. &ein! a member of a university Sports Club can offer you a valuable and memorable e'perience while at university and beyond. What is Sports Council?

Sports Council is a subsidiary council of the Students +epresentative Council ,S+C-. (or its income$ Sports Council receives a fundin! allocation from the TUU bud!et that is "ointly set up by the &oard of .ana!ement and S+C in consultation with the Sports Council /'ecutive of the TUU. 0ery !enerally$ the role of Sports Council is to administer and coordinate the activities of University sports clubs$ and to encoura!e increased participation in all competitive and recreational sportin! activities by University students. Sports Council assist clubs with some UTAS venue hire and members are covered under our insurance.

How to Affiliate a Sporting Club

1. 1ou need at least 12 active members to be able to apply for affiliation of a Sports Club. Affiliation !ives you the ri!hts to use of the University Union name and lo!o and insurance cover. 2. The ne't thin! to do is draw up a Constitution ,a sample is available from the Sports and Societies *fficer-. 3. All clubs are re4uired to submit an official affiliation5re6affiliation form$ bud!et and membership list. As well as the membership list bein! a re4uirement for affiliation$ it is also necessary for insurance purposes.

4. "O" Day, is on Wednesday 2 rd !ebruary 2"## from 3.00 to 7800 pm in the TUU carpar%. It is an important day as you have the opportunity to come face to face with students both new and old and hopefully enlist more members. 1ou can boo% a stall with the Sports and Societies *fficer by ednesday 17th (ebruary. )i4uor license for the whole area will be provided.

How to $oin a Club

1. "O" Day, Wednesday, 2 rd !ebruary 2"## is a !reat place to start. 1ou can add your name to a membership list. 2. 9rab the contact number for any club you are interested in and !et in touch with that person 6 they will be able to help you. 3 Spea% to the Sports *fficer or Sports Council :resident.

%lues Awards
The Tasmania University Union Inc Sports Council awards &lues each year for achievements by students in University sport. Two standards are reco!nised8 (ull &lues and ;alf &lues. The awards are the hi!hest reco!nition that the Sports Council and the University can bestow on a student in the sportin! arena. There are standard minimum re4uirements for a &lue or ;alf &lue$ and each club may add its own additional re4uirements. <ominations for &lues$ ;alf &lues and Sports Council awards open 1 *ctober and close = *ctober 2011.

This award is reco!nition of sportin! achievement for the most outstandin! sportsperson at the University for the 1ear. Unli%e the &lues Award$ the award concentrates on performances outside the University arena. The Commonwealth &an%$ UTAS Sport and +ecreation and TUU Sports Council !enerously sponsor the award. The value of the award is currently @1$000. 9enerally a winner will be world6ran%ed in his or her sport. <ominations for University Sports :erson award open # October and close #. October 2"##.

This is award is for e'ceptional service to University sport. *pen to both students and non6 students it reco!nises the contribution made by individuals to clubs and Sports Council over a period of at least three years. The service may be administrative$ coachin!$ officiatin!$ playin! or combination.

The 0ice6Chancellor and the TUU provide annual scholarships to support talented athletes while they study at UTAS. This scholarship is provided by Corporate /'press and is available to an e'cellent sportsperson commencin! a course at UTAS. Selection will be based on evidence of achievement in sport to date$ potential for future development and on academic achievement. Amount available is @3$000 for one year.

UTAS and the Tasmanian Institute of Sport ,TIS- have a!reed to support two students for one year while they study. 1ou must be an athlete at the TIS. *ne scholarship is for a 1ear 12 student enterin! UTAS$ and one is for a student currently enrolled in a University course. Amount is Course fees ,;/CS- for one year.

Supporters and past players of the Tasmania University Cric%et Club ,TUCC- have funded this scholarship to support cric%eters at UTAS. It is available to a student with a !ood academic record who is also a talented cric%eter demonstrated by performance in school and club competition or at national undera!e championships. The selected student will be available to play for the TUCC while studyin!. Amount is @3$000 for one year.

This scholarship is provided by the Tasmania University (ootball Club ,TU(C- throu!h the !enerosity of its past members and supporters. The scholarship is available to a ;obart6 based student with !ood academic achievement who is also able to demonstrate commitment to Australian +ules football by performance in school or club competition. The selected student should be available to play for the TU(C while studyin!. Amount is @A$000 for one year.
