INTRODUCTION TO ENACTUS Enactus is an international non-profit organization that brings together student, academic and business leaders who are committed to using the power of entrepreneurial action to improve the quality of life and standard of living for people in need. Guided by academic advisors and business experts, the student leaders of Enactus create and implement community empowerment projects around the globe. The experience not only transforms lives, it helps students develop the kind of talent and perspective that are essential to leadership in an ever-more complicated and challenging world. At Enactus Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies (S.S.C.B.S.) (University of Delhi), we have been engaged in using business models to empower those in need, since our inception in January 2009.

EN.ACT.US entrepreneurialhaving the perspective to see an opportunity and the talent to create value from that opportunity; actionthe willingness to do something and the commitment to see it through even when the outcome is not guaranteed; usa group of people who see themselves connected in some important way; individuals that are part of a greater whole.

VALUES Imagination: Every crisis creates opportunity, every struggle offers the chance to rediscover. Everything we do is born from the ability to see potential where others cant. Partnership: There is no greater force for change than a team of people who are personally invested in each other, and in the lives of the people who their work is intended to serve. Courage: The willingness to try, fail and learn on the journey toward creating something new is just as critical as the passion to succeed. There is no substitute for being willing to lead especially when the territory being covered is new and the outcome is uncertain. Accountability : Every initiative or project we undertake will be judged by the only measure that matters: how effectively we create lasting and meaningful progress in the lives of those we serve. Determination : Meaningful change is not easy. It requires the ability to overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles and face often daunting challenges. We have the persistence to do what it takes to achieve the results we seek. Curiosity: We are passionate about seeking new perspectives and challenging long-standing assumptions because we know effective leadership requires continuous learning.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION GRAMODDHAR (Co founder and Project Head): We adopted a village Ghamroj and implemented various activities to imporve their socio economic conditions. Ghamroj, situated in Sohna tehsil, district Gurgaon, Haryana, is a midsized village located in the lap of the Aravali hills. Forgotten in the development of greater Gurgaon, the village suffers from income disparity, social injustices and economic deprivation. The aim is to create a ripple effect where the community becomes capable enough to support each other and move towards the holistic development of the entire village. By: alleviating Ghamrojs economic situation. addressing the factors that are hampering its development. Instilling a sense of self-esteem and self sufficiency, through skill development and a sense of achievement in its population. OUR INTERVENTION: Promoting income generating activities and the establishment of self sufficient family held or cooperative based businesses. Assistance through the provision of interest free loans, microcredit, technical and business training and follow-ups . Vocational and practical training aimed at improving and stabilising the local economy. Increasing the representation of women in the development of Ghamroj, both socially and economically. Increasing local self-reliance, savings, and disposable income.

Reducing dependence on commercial borrowings which leads to debts.

INTERVENTIONS UNDERTAKEN: PROJECT AKSHAR LIBRARY: 1. It has empowered rural children by providing them with the educational tools, required in todays knowledge system. 2. We have established the basic infrastructure for a library at the Senior Secondary Girls School, Ghamroj , arranged of 800 books and facilitated training of school teachers in fundamental library skills to ensure smooth functioning of the library.

POULTRY FARMING: 1. Enactus SSCBS has collaborated with Keggfarms Pvt. Ltd. to rear the innovative crossbred 'Kuroiler breed of poultry. 2. We have successfully completed one cycle at Ghamroj with our entrepreneur, an underprivileged widow named Parmila. 3. Through poultry farming, Enactus SSCBS has: Nurtured a sense of independence through an activity that is directly adds to their productivity. Provided vocational training to develop skills in fields other than traditional agriculture. Enhanced food security, independent of climatic changes.

BEAUTY SERVICES: 1. Ghamroj has no formal beauty parlor and women may have to travel upto 10 km to avail basic beauty treatment. Enactus SSCBS

has identified a link between the two problems and has set out to establish a rural beauty parlor called Shringaar. 2. We have identified an enterprising young woman, Neeraj, who has basic beauty services skills but is not allowed to work in a commercial environment due to family constraints. By empowering and educating Neeraj and her family , Enactus SSCBS through Shringaar aims to: Provided cosmetic material to the beauty parlour from the nearby town of Sohna and improve the condition of the parlour. Extensively promoted the parlour among the people of the village to create a large customer base. Employed more women entrepreneurs making them selfsufficient.

SPORTS Due to the lack of infrastructure and initiative, villages such as Ghamroj have not had the opportunity to realize their true potential. Enactus SSCBSs intervention: 1. Established basic sports infrastructure for community and character building. 2. Held exhibition matches and tournaments as a major trust building exercise and further integration of urban and rural lifestyles. 3. Instituted coaching and training facilities for youngsters to identify and develop young talent while economically empowering local sportspersons.

Enactus SSCBS successfully organized the first edition of the Gurgaon Grameen League, a cricket league, in June 2013, which saw participation from over 5 villages in the Badshahpur-Sohna belt.

LEARNING

OWNERSHIP: It has taught me to take everything I do as if it were my own. It showed the value of ownership and making every decision as it were to effect me personally. ENTREPRENEURSHIP : Enactus has taught to assume risks and take everything in my stride. The rewards aree directly related to risks and you need to calculate the risk and take action accordingly. ACHIEVEMENT: This project has taught to not only aim high but also to outperform. It has expanded my horizon and given me a better vision to look at things. It has taught to take everything as it comes and value the successes and learn from the failures. PARTNERSHIP: Enactus has taught me the value of relationships and impact of leveraging them to outperform. It showed the value of trust, respect and other intangibles.

CONCLUSION In conclusion, working with for Enactus KPMG has been an extremely valuable experience. Through this internship I learnt a lot about social entrepreneurship. I also gained an insight into the working of an organisation; into the key roles and functions of different people across the organizational hierarchy. The Project was extremely intriguing and it has taught me a number of skills and techniques that I shall now be able to use and implement in other tasks that I shall encounter at work and in college. In conclusion, I express my sincere hope that my work in the Gramoddhar project would have helped improve the socio economic conditions of the village.
