FUEL INJECTOR SERVICES Product Information Information

Type of Change: Recommended Compliance: Purpose:

This Service Bulletin is to communicate the availability of fuel injector services at various worldwide Solar facilities. GENERAL INFORMATION: The complex nature of fuel injectors, especially those for SoLoNOx products, requires that specic procedures be followed when cleaning fuel injectors. Prolonged operation with contaminated fuel injectors can be detrimental to engine performance, emissions, hot section components and the fuel injectors themselves. Contaminated or plugged fuel injectors may reach a point where they can no longer be cleaned, but rather, require extensive repair or replacement. Attempts to clean fuel injectors on-site, or through 3rd party services may lead to injector damage, through the use of improper equipment and procedures to clean and ow test a set of fuel injectors [damage to fuel injectors caused by attempts to clean fuel injectors through unapproved methods will not be covered under warranty]. Without proper testing, leaks and poor ow patterns may exist but not be discovered, which in turn may result in lower performance or premature failures.

It is important to regularly inspect the fuel and fuel system for sources of contamination; visually inspect the fuel injectors at the regular maintenance intervals; and watch for changes in operating parameters such as power, T5 spread and emissions. SB 8.0/129 and SB 8.0/137 describe these concerns in greater detail. On all dual fuel and liquid-only fuel injectors, Solar can also quantify the amount of plugging that is present in the liquid fuel circuits, without removing the fuel injectors, using our in situ ow kit. This service can be scheduled through your Solar district ofce.

The key to cleaning fuel injectors is to fully remove deposits from the internal fuel passages and not just the visible build-up in the premix section (i.e., injectors may appear to be clean, but could still be plugged internally). Solar offers fuel injector services to clean and ow test fuel injectors through proven methodology, including thermal oxidation, alkaline high frequency ultrasonic cleaners, and fully computerized injector ow test benches. Those injectors that do not pass Solars clean and ow procedure can be credited towards an exchange or repair option. Please refer to Service Bulletin 1.0/115 for details on shipping parts to our worldwide facilities. Contact your local Solar district ofce for more information on Solars Fuel Injector Services.
