Clean Energy From Filthy Water By: Jane Braxton Little

Santa Rosa and Calpine Corporation = worlds largest geothermal wastewater-to-power project Clean energy powered by urban effluent o Beneficial to animals and humans Hot rocks boil water in steam, it then gets piped to the surface to power the turbines By 2050 it can supply 10% of the nations electricity Slowly Calpine Corporation is expanding their partnerships Most of the time water gets treated through three processes o First it gets rid of solid materials, then organic matters, and in the end chemicals are used to remove the remaining substances Effluent gets injected into the ground o Amount of earthquakes increases More than 100,000 megawatts in the US could be produced by geothermal systems 8 million gallons of wastewater a day gets recycled in Lake County Electricity can be sent to far places Greenhouse gas emissions can be reduced by two billion pounds a year from wastewater

By using geothermal, wastewater can be converted into electricity. This can also reduce the amount of greenhouse gas emissions. Residents in Santa Rosa County are now using electricity that got came from wastewater. The water would get boil by hot rocks, then the steam would then be used to power the turbines that converts them into electricity. This method of getting electricity can power 10% of the nations energy by 2050. Not only is this beneficial to humans, but it is also helps the environment. The environment, including fishes that inhabits bodies of waters. It is interesting how technologies have improved and power can come from other resources such as wastewater. I think that more cities should start using this method to power their energies. It is good for the environment and it is cheaper than other resources. It is also a good way to recycle wastewater. Instead of sending the wastewater into bodies of waters, it should be recycled using this method. I think this is better than burning coal and fracking. This method should be used instead of fracking because it reduces the risks of earthquakes.

So what? This can reduce greenhouse emissions, and it is renewable.

What if? What if more cities were using this method of converting electricity? Then then ocean would be less polluted from wastewater and less air pollution.

This reminds me of This reminds me of Unieco because both of them are using things that are being thrown away, converting them into more useful items.
