Professor Emeritus Tan Sri Dato' Dr Lim Kok Wing always carried

a fire within him, even from young. He had talent. He had ambition.

Poverty and too strict parents did not stop him from exploring. He

discarded what he didn't need and ventured into areas that honed his skills.

Journalism. Design. Marketing. These provided lucrative outlets. He

designed book covers. He wrote news stories. He drew cartoons. He sold

encyclopaedias and cars. He could glimpse the potential in all these but he

was not satisfied.

As we are all aware that Tan Sri Dato' Dr Lim Kok Wing is the

founder of the esteemed Lim Kok Wing University with his profound

strategy and creativity that has brought the university to an eye opener

level, globally. Tan Sri is truly and amazingly has contributed to his

country, worldwide and especially to its students.

His involvement in education not only created a new chapter in his

life but set trends in the sector. He entered the world of education desiring

to impart the value of his experience to a young generation. Upon making

his entry he found a challenge waiting. As he had done with the advertising

business he made it his mission to provide education that would bring

recognition and raise the value of the profession.

He brought the world into the classroom through smart

partnerships with some of the world’s most established and reputable

universities and colleges.

He is driven by a concern for the next generation and his emphasis

on creativity as a competitive edge is now receiving its due recognition after

a decade of championing its value to business and life. He changed

mindsets helping people to grasp the elusive concept of creativity and thus

enabling young people to convince their parents of building careers in

creative professions.

More recently he has introduced the concept of the Global

Classroom where students can transfer to as many countries as they can to

experience the culture of different campuses. Working in collaboration with

his Global Consortium of Partner Universities he has enabled cross-border

transfers that will develop the global graduate. He sees this as a great
opportunity to build cultural appreciation and understanding in the next

generation which will benefit the world in the years to come. But of

immediate benefit to the student is a unique learning experience.

The Global Classroom concept grew out of his own initiatives to

export degree and diploma programmes developed in Malaysia that are

delivered in cities around the world. Already more than 10 cities deliver

Limkokwing programmes. What has made these programmes attractive is

the flexibility and the industry relevance of the courses.
