Step-by-step 1. Choose a spot Choose a well-drained, sunny spot, well away from trees and competing plants. Clear away weeds, roots and lawn. 2. Remove packaging Remove the packaging material from around the roots of the bare rooted rose and stand the plant in a bucket of water while you dig the planting hole. 3. Dig hole Dig a hole with shovel at least 30cm wide and deep enough to take the root system 4. Back fill Fill in the hole gently firming the soil around the roots. Firm the soil using your hands then cover the soil surface with a 5cm layer of organic mulch. 6. Water Water regularly while the growth is forming, then cut back to watering just once or twice a week.
