1st Summer Internship Program WHO can apply? Freshmen to Sophomore law students of the WMSU-College of Law

WHAT is Summer Internship Program (SIP)? The program has three (3) phases which are: 1. Basic Orientation Seminar The SIP will start with a Basic Orientation Seminar (BOS) where the interns will learn more about Alternative Lawyering and Social Justice. The interns will be taught with the necessary skills in advocacy through lectures, discussions, and skills training sessions on human rights advocacy and developmental legal aid. 2. Immersion A week long program held after the interns have undergone extensive orientation seminars. Participants are assigned to live with farmers, urban poor, or tribal communities to directly experience grassroots poverty and learn about the issues affecting vulnerable groups. Through this immersion, the interns experienced life in an undiscovered place with the goal of learning more about themselves, their communities, and how they will, eventually, learn the law to serve the people. 3. Internship This phase provides participants with practical training and exposure to human rights advocacy by assigning them to work with human rights and legal aid organizations around Zamboanga City. Background of the Centro Advocacia Legal (CADLE) The Centro Advocacia Legal is a newly formed human rights and legal aid center based in the Western Mindanao State University- College of Law, which is organized to strengthen the participation of the law students to engage in alternative lawyering through internship and paralegal formation, community engagement and expansion of legal aid services focusing on children, women, and the marginalized sectors. The objectives of the Center are the following:
Providing free legal aid services to the indigent members of the community, women and children. Enhancing the capacity of law students by involving them in legal aid practice. Leverage law students as a valuable resource through internship programs and other meaningful opportunities for students to contribute to center and access to justice initiatives; Serving as a resource centre for researchers and volunteers who wish to provide training to law students, paralegals and other legal practitioners in the area of human rights. Undertake programs on legal aid and human rights action that affects marginalized communities in Zamboanga City.
