FrantzFanondiedin1961.Intheyearsthathavepassedsincehisdeathhehasbecomea canonicalthinkerinanumberofacademicfieldsincludingpostcolonialstudies,criticalrace theoryandAfricanastudies.InSouthAfricahisideascontinuetoanimatesomeofthemost compellingtheoreticalinnovationthatisbeingproducedintheacademyandtoinspireand shapethethinkingofpoliticalmilitants. Fanonsnameisincreasinglyusedinamannerthathasverylittle,ifanything,todowithhis politicalworkorwritings.Thiscoursewillgivestudentsanopportunitytoengagewith Fanonskeywritingsaswellasthemostimportantsecondaryliteraturedevelopedin responsetohiswork.Aftercompletingthiscoursestudentswillhaveasolidfoundationon whichtodevelopanongoingengagementwithbothFanon'sworkandthekeydebatesin thebestsecondaryliteratureonFanon.
