John Hanger, Secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection describes the natural gas drilling and extraction as a trade-off. Explain what the trade-off is. Do you believe this is a good trade? Natural gas is often described as a transition fuel and a cleaner-burning fossil fuel. Explain how these claims are incomplete. Given what you learned from this movie, is natural gas a fuel that we should explore and extract more of? - The trade-off is a balance achieved between two desirable but incompatible features; a compromise. We contaminate water, but we have cheap oil, and not from other places. We shouldnt explore and extract more of natural gas because they're contaminating our water

39. The Fracturing Responsibility and Awareness of Chemicals (FRAC) Act proposes to include hydraulic fracturing as an activity regulated under the Safe Drinking Water Act. This law would require the industry to disclose all chemicals used in fracking. Do you think this law is fair and justified? Why might the gas drilling companies oppose this law? Explain your 0.23 answer. - Educate people about the contamination. We have to come up with better regulations. Gas drilling companies oppose this law because it is expensive, so they'll lose a lot of money and profit.

41. The Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission has released a statement explaining several inaccuracies it feels that the documentary portrays. The statement is available

here: http://cogcc.state.co.us/library/GASLAND%20DOC.pdf Briefly describe their statement on the following: - The Weld County Wells: The records do not reflect any pressure failures or other problems associated with these wells that would indicate a loss of fracture fluid or gas from the well bore into the surrounding geologic formations. - The West Divide Creek Seeps: In addition, BTEX compounds were detected in ground and surface water in the vicinity of the West Divide Creek seep, which indicates that the gas is related to oil and gas activities and not of biogenic origin.

42. If you owned a large parcel of land in the shale area, and were offered several thousand dollars per acre to lease the land for gas drilling, would you take the money? Explain your decision. - No, because I care about my health rather than my money. No one is able to live with the water would be contaminated. Money cant buy the beauty of nature.

Summary We can see the process of create gas well strongly affecting our water (bubbled, brownish, and dirty), causing harmful health problems (internal cancer, fever, headaches, disabilities, stomach sick, dizzy, lose weight, hair falls out, brain damages, disorganization) and also contaminating our environment (dead animals such as rabbits, fish, birds). Natural gas contains in people's water, which contaminates their water in their homes. The gasses mixed with the water, and this made water flammable. It could blow up their house because of the water can catch fire easily. It is contaminating our soil, and drinking water, also due to

these people are getting sick and die. This is a serious problem, we have to use this knowledge to educate other people and stop fracking.
