Introduction
This essay competition is for young people living outside Singapore who are keen on participating in the exciting Asian Youth Energy Summit 2014 in Singapore, where they can interact with other young enthusiasts and various experts in the energy sector and learn through exciting programmes organised by Energy Carta. We are offering award winners subsidy for transportation costs to Singapore and accommodation expenses for their stay there.
Eligibility
1. Only youths who are living in the following countries are allowed to apply a. Thailand b. Malaysia c. Indonesia d. Cambodia e. Vietnam f. Laos g. Myanmar h. Brunei i. Philippines j. China k. India 2. All applicants are to be less than 30 years old at the time of January 2014

3. All applicants must not be banned from entering Singapore or any other countries before.

Essay
Write an essay of 500-1000 words on one of the topics below: Topic 1: Sustainable development in the energy sector What are some of the challenges your country face in ensuring energy reliability, efficiency and sustainability? How can we deal with these challenges? Topic 2: Combating Energy Poverty According to World Energy Outlook 2013 Electricity Database, the rural area electrification rate for South East Asia alone stands at 67.2%. This translates to approximately 134 million people without access to electricity across the SEA region. What are some of the consequences of energy poverty you can observe in Asia? How can we combat energy poverty?
All candidates will get certificates of appreciation as the recognition to their contribution to the summit. Candidates who are not selected for the awards can still apply for a place in the Asian Youth Energy Summit 2014. However, candidates will need to pay for their own expenses and find their own accommodation. Results will be announced on 16 February. Note: All award winners are required to arrange their own transportation to and fro Singapore. *The final number of candidates winning the competition can be changed by the organizer without any prior notice.
