Thursday February 27, 2014


Lesson/Objectives: The students will Identify the prepositions on the pre-test Demonstrate prepositional phrases by acting them out Identify the correct preposition and apply it to the story that has missing prepositions Activity: The students will take a pre-test on prepositions to see how much they remember. I will give a definition of prepositions and where they are found in speech, and give a list of common prepositions. Students will act out prepositional phrases Write ON the Board. Go UNDER the desk I have created a fun story that is missing the prepositions and the students will fill in the blanks with prepositions that make the story make sense. The students will listen to the School house rock song on prepositions. Materials: pre-test, preposition story, list of prepositions, School House Rock Prepositions on youtube. Common Core Standards:
SL.5.5 include multimedia components (e.g.,graphics, sound) and visual displays in presentations when appropriate to enhance the development of main ideas or themes. L.5.1 Demonstrate command of the conversation of standard English grammar and usage when writing or speaking. a. explain the function of conjunctions, prepositions, and interjections in general and their function in particular sentences.

Monday March 3, 2014


Lesson/Objectives: The students will recall as many prepositions as they can think of in three minutes distinguish prepositions when given a sentence and recognize them on the Bingo card Identify the prepositions on the post test Activity: On the Top worksheet, students will work in groups and list as many prepositions as they can think of in 3 minutes. A prize will be awarded to the winning group. Preposition Bingo, students will listen to a phrase and pick out the preposition. If they have that one on their Bingo card they will mark it out. The first one to get a Bingo will get a prize. We will do this two times. The students will complete the America Worksheet (I hear America Singing, students will look at the poem and highlight prepositional phrases.) The students will listen to the Shirley Method song on Prepositions on youtube. The students will take a post-test. Materials: Over the Top worksheet, Bingo, prizes, America Worksheet, youtube, post test) Common Core Standards:

Tuesday March 4, 2014Lesson/Objectives: If the students are struggling we will work on anything that needs additional time. If the students understand Prepositions we will move on to Narrative Writing.

Add the Prepositions to the Story


A preposition connects a noun or pronoun to another word in the sentence, showing the relationship between them. Prepositions usually answer the questions where? Or When?, telling about a person or objects location in either time or space. Use one of the prepositions from the word bank in each of the blanks in the story below. Prepositions can be used more than once, as long as they make since where you place them in the story.
