Programme Educational Objectives and Programme outcomes for Bachelors Degree Programme in Information Technology

Programme Educational Objectives (PEOs) In their careers, our graduates will 1. Implement computing solutions for real world problems and carry out basic and applied research leading to new innovations in Information Technology (IT) and related interdisciplinary areas. 2. Be able to ethically and appropriately apply knowledge of societal impacts of information technologies in the course of their career related activities. 3. Have strong communication and interpersonal skills, broad knowledge, and an understanding of multicultural and global perspectives to work effectively and ethically in multidisciplinary teams, both as team members and leaders. 4. Engage in life-long learning, to remain current in their profession and obtain additional qualifications to enhance their carreer positions in IT industries.

Graduate Attributes The Graduate Attributes of the NBA are as following: 1. Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems. 2. Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences. 3. Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations. 4. Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions. 5. Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations. 6. The engineer and society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal, and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice. 7. Environment and sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development. 8. Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice. 9. Individual and team work: Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams, and in multidisciplinary settings. 10. Communication: Communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, such as, being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear instructions. 11. Project management and finance: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the engineering and management principles and apply these to ones own work, as a member and leader in a team, to manage projects and in multidisciplinary environments.

12. Life-long learning: Recognize the need for, and have the preparation and ability to engage in independent and life-long learning in the broadest context of technological change.

Program Outcomes

On Completion of the B.Tech (Information Technology) degree the graduates will be able to: a. Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science and computing in the core information technologies. b. Identify, design, and analyze complex computer systems and implement and interpret the results from those systems. c. Design, implement and evaluate a computer-based system, or process component, to meet desired needs within realistic constraints such as economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, manufacturability, and sustainability. d. Review literature and indulge in research using research based knowledge and methods to design new experiments, analyze, and interpret data to draw valid conclusions. e. Select and apply current techniques, skills, and tools necessary for computing practice and effectively integrate IT-based solutions into the user environment. f. Apply contextual knowledge to assess professional, legal, health, social and cultural issues during profession practice. g. Analyze the local and global impact of computing on individuals, organizations, and society. h. Apply ethical principles and responsibilities during professional practice. i. Function effectively as a team member or a leader to accomplish a common goal in a multidisciplinary team. j. Communicate effectively with a range of audiences using a range of modalities including written, oral and graphical. k. Apply the knowledge of engineering and management principles to manage projects effectively in diverse environments as a member or a leader in the team. l. Engage in independent and life-long learning for continued professional development.

Program specific criteria specified by The programme specific criteria are given by Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers for undergraduate programme in Information Technology and associated programmes. They are: a) The application of computer and network hardware, operating systems, system and network administration, programming languages, applications software, and databases in the building, testing, operation, and maintenance of hardware and software systems. b) The application of electrical, electronic, telecommunications, and digital signal propagation fundamentals in the building, testing, operation, and maintenance of hardware and software systems. c) The ability to design, implement, maintain and provide for the security of facilities involved with the processing and transfer of information d) The ability to apply project management techniques to facilities that process and transfer information e) The ability to apply discrete mathematics, and probability and statistics in the support of facilities that process and transfer information.
