PARKING INFORMATION FOR STUDENTS AND STAFF

INTRODUCTION
Before bringing your vehicle on to Campus, consider alternative ways of getting to the University. Some options include public transport, car-pooling, the CABS busses, bicycles or walking. Parking spaces are in very high demand. At times you may have to vary your time of arrival, which could mean some additional cost. Staff with a permit can use one of the Pay-By-Phone areas, but this will be at additional cost. A STAFF PARKING PERMIT GIVES YOU PERMISSION TO BRING YOUR CAR ONTO CAMPUS. IT DOES NOT IMPLY THAT A PARKING BAY WILL BE AVAILABLE AT ALL TIMES.

STAFF PARKING PERMITS


PERMIT PARKING TYPES Reserved Undercover Parking provided for eligible staff who have purchased a reserved undercover parking permit. Entitles holder to park in a dedicated reserved bay (Purple). Restricted Parking provided for eligible staff who have purchased a reserved parking permit. Entitles holder to park in a dedicated restricted zoned car park (Purple). Staff Parking provided for staff who have purchased a staff parking permit. Entitles holder to park in staff yellow zoned car park. PAYMENT METHODS Salary Packaging Payroll deduction Credit Card Parking permits can be purchased at parking.curtin.edu.au Staff Parking Permits will be mailed to you within 5 working days after payment. Pay by Phone parking is available for staff as an alternative to a parking permit. Details on how to register as a user and the associated fees are available at parking.curtin.edu.au

OTHER PARKING Motorcycle Parking is free of charge in designated motorcycle parking bays. No permit is required. Motorcycles are not permitted to park in bays designated for 4 wheeled vehicles. Courtesy Bays available to Curtin Staff and Students only with short term disabilities. The Parking and Traffic Office must sight appropriate documentation before a Courtesy Bay parking permit may be issued. Contact Parking and Traffic on 9266 7116 for further information. ACROD Bays available to holders of current ACROD parking permits only. ACROD parking permit holders may park in the next available Courtesy bay, staff bay (other than reserved bays) or paid parking areas if ACROD bays are unavailable at no charge. Student Housing Permits Entitles holder to park in specic housing bays.

BICYCLE END TRIP FACILITIES


Curtins Bentley campus has a range of facilities to make it easier for cyclists to commute to and from campus. The Bentley campus bike users map properties.curtin.edu.au/maps/docs/bike_users_map.pdf provides a breakdown of end trip facilities such as where to secure your bike, shower facilities and the best routes in and out of campus. In addition to the many bike racks around campus, secure bicycle enclosures have been established in Buildings 107, 108, 115, 302 and 500. Entry to these facilities is by swipe-card access. To apply to have access to these facilities added to your staff or student card please visit the Security Office (Building 115).

REGULATIONS
The Traffic By-Laws are detailed in Part 3 of the University Land & Traffic By-Laws, and are available from the Parking and Traffic Office and our website parking.curtin.edu.au. All vehicles parking on University land are required to display either a current valid parking permit or a valid metered parking ticket or be registered to use the Pay by Phone parking facilities and pay on the day. Parking areas and parking bays are clearly marked and require vehicles to be parked within marked bays in accordance with entitlements. Breaches of Land and Traffic ByLaws will be strictly enforced and may result in the issue of infringement notices and the payment of a penalty. Non-payment of infringement notices can result in suspension and/or court action for staff and students.

PARKING PERMIT REFUNDS


A cooling off period of 30 days applies in which a full refund will be provided on return of a parking permit. Refunds will not be provided once this period expires.

PARKING RESERVATIONS
Parking reservations can be made for visitors to Curtins Bentley Campus. The Parking and Traffic Office requires at least 2 days notice for all reservations. Requests can be made at parking@curtin.edu.au Visitors reserved bays are located in car park B13.

REPLACEMENT PARKING PERMITS


Where it is necessary to replace a parking permit due to loss by the holder, a replacement fee equal to the fee originally paid will be charged. Parking Permits damaged, destroyed or stolen (e.g. windscreen damage, vehicle accident, disposal of vehicle etc.) may be replaced upon application to the Parking and Traffic Office and payment of a fee of $15.00. Evidence of damage, destruction or theft must be produced or a statutory declaration completed.

INFRINGEMENT NOTICES
Where an infringement notice has been issued and the person wishes to appeal against the ne, they must do so in writing within the specied time period as outlined on the infringement notice. Appeals can be submitted online at www.parking.curtin.edu.au. Late appeals will not be accepted. If an infringement notice has been issued, the owner of the vehicle shall be deemed in charge of the vehicle. A breach of a by-law deemed to be committed by a student may be considered to constitute misconduct for the purpose of the student Disciplinary Statute.

LIABILITY
It shall be deemed to be a condition of every parking permit, ticket or electronic ticket issued that the holder parks on University Land at his or her own risk and the University is not liable or responsible in any way for the safe custody of the vehicle or the contents of the vehicle in respect of which the permit is issued (Land and Traffic By-Laws Part 3.1.3).

Pay by Phone parking is available to all staff and students, including Curtin International College students. Staff and Students can use All Day Parking or Timed Parking up to a max of 4 hours. PAY BY PHONE PARKING TYPES All Day Parking Available for Curtin students and staff who have registered. One of daily fee applies for this zone. 4 Hours Maximum Parking Available for Curtin students and staff who have registered. An hourly rate applies with a maximum 4 hour parking permitted. Visitor Parking (Metered) Available in car parks B13, C1, C13, D3. Users may register for Pay By Phone or use the meters provided. PARKING PERMIT/PARKING TICKET FRAUD


No Person shall, without authority, alter, duplicate or sell a parking permit or parking ticket. A breach will be deemed as misconduct. An instance of misconduct is a disciplinary offence and will be dealt with in accordance with: Students The Student Disciplinary Statute. Statute-10 of the Curtin University of Technology Act. PARKING AFTER HOURS


In the interests of security The Parking and Traffic Office encourages students and visitors to park in designated staff parking areas between 4.30pm and 6.30am on weekdays and all day on weekends. However, parking in ACROD bays, Courtesy bays, no parking zones, non designated parking areas and grassed areas is prohibited at all times unless directed by an authorised individual.

SECURITY INFORMATION FOR STUDENTS AND STAFF


Curtin University is Western Australias largest university. Over 40,000 staff and students attend Curtins campuses at Bentley, Perth City, Shenton Park, Kalgoorlie and Margaret River. As part of our concerns for your personal safety, Curtin University urges awareness of the dangers inherent in any large community. The security of your property, ranging from cars to personal belongings, and your personal security at all times can be improved by recognising the risks and taking steps to avoid potentially hazardous situations. Treat the University as if it were your own home dont leave your car, office or property unsecured. Always carry your Curtin ID card this card may give you access to your buildings as well as providing you with identication.

BIKE SAFETY
Always wear a helmet. Ride on the left-hand side of the street, so you travel in the same direction as other vehicles. Make sure that your bicycle has lights for cycling after dark. Wear bright clothing so that you are visible to motorists. Buy a good quality lock such as a D-Lock available to purchase at the Security office. Secure bike areas with limited spaces are available around the Bentley campus. Contact security for information about this facility.

CAMPUS COURTESY BUS (wheelchair accessible) During semester this free hail and ride service operates on weeknights providing a safe and convenient means of transportation around the Bentley campus including student housing villages. The service departs from outside the library at 5.30pm and runs hourly with the last departure at 12.30am. Details of this service can be found at properties.curtin.edu.au/parking/courtesy_bus.cfm WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE COURTESY BUS The Security department operates on request a wheelchair accessible courtesy bus for staff and students. Bookings must be made in advance and this can be done by contacting Curtin Security on 9266 4444. ESCORTS & SAFER PATHWAYS Avoid walking alone. Staff and students on the Bentley campus may call Curtin Security on 4444 if they wish to be escorted to their vehicle or other parts of the campus by security staff. To assist security during semesters it is recommended that staff and students use the Courtesy Bus where possible. Even though escorts are a priority, ensure that you give security a contact number so they can notify you in case there is an emergency that might delay their response. ADVICE Curtin Security staff are always available to give advice on personal safety and property security to groups or individuals. SAFEZONE
SafeZone is a free app for all students and staff that connects you directly to the university security team when you need help or First-Aid while you are on the campus. When you raise an alarm or call for help, all on campus security team members will be alerted to your situation and location so that they can quickly and effectively respond to help you. The SafeZone app can be downloaded from the Apple App Store or Google Play.

EMERGENCY VEHICLES
Road users are reminded that all Emergency and Security vehicles with warning lights and or sirens in use are to be given right of way. Move out of the way as quickly as possible.

AT WORK
Always wear your Curtin ID Card and ensure it is visible. Always lock your office and windows when you leave-even if it is only for a short period of time. Never lend anyone your office keys or ID access card. Keys and combinations should never be left in desk drawers. Ensure that your office personal computer is secure and that all condential information and data is restricted. Do not leave doors wedged open. Turn off all heaters, fans, urns and printers when leaving work. If working after hours, please advise Security on 4444. When leaving, call Curtin Security on 4444 if you require an escort to your car. Report broken locks, blown lights, faulty windows and other security deciencies to the Service Coordination Centre on 2020 or to Curtin Security on 4444 after hours. Back up work on computers - dont let a thief steal your work.

Crime Stoppers is a telephone hotline for members of the community to provide information about criminal activity. The information is electronically sent to the police office nearest to where the crime is occurring for investigation. You do not need to give your name. You may remain anonymous which allows you to overcome any fear of involvement. Your call is not recorded or taped. You are not identied in any way. Callers are allocated a code number as you may need to provide further information or to check on the progress of the investigation. SAFER COMMUNITY RESPONSE TEAM (SCRT)


SCRT is a multi-disciplinary team aiming to provide a safe and secure environment for the Curtin community by working together to prevent people from harming themselves or others and assisting people in need. Students and staff may refer to the SCRT at any time. Following an investigation a plan will be developed that will take into consideration the best interests of the individual and the university community. WHAT SHOULD YOU REPORT Threat of suicide or self-harm. Threat of physical violence towards others. Alleged criminal acts including assault, domestic violence, stalking. Mental health concerns which have an effect on students and/or staff of the university community. Students who have been reported as missing by Curtin employees or family members. HOW TO MAKE A REPORT If you observe an incident or behaviour of concern that needs to be brought to the attention of the SCRT you may: Submit a report online at curtin.edu.au/scrt-report Contact Security on 9266 4444. The SCRT team will accept anonymous reports however our ability to investigate is limited without the ability to contact the reporting person should additional information be needed. SECURING YOUR PROPERTY


Never leave your wallet, bag or purse, or other items of property unsecured and unattended. Do not leave valuables in your desk drawers or motor vehicle. Only carry cash for immediate needs. Never carry your Personal Identication Number (PIN) with your credit cards. Never tell anyone, including a bank representative your PIN. Never let anyone see you entering your PIN at an Automatic Teller Machine (ATM). Lock your home, car and office when you leave them and arrange to obtain a numbered key tag from Security to assist in the return of your keys if lost.

PERSONAL SAFETY
Be aware of your surroundings especially when using your iPod or speaking on your mobile. Avoid areas where you dont feel safe e.g. vacant land, areas with overgrown bushes or trees. Where possible use busy well-lit streets. If you think you are being followed trust your instincts and take action. Make for a busy area and tell people what is happening. Whenever possible walk facing the oncoming traffic. Never accept a lift from a stranger or someone you dont know very well. Be alert when using ATM machines make sure nobody is loitering nearby. Consider carrying a personal alarm which can be used to shock an attacker.

SUPPORT SERVICES
COUNSELLING SERVICES A counsellor will help you explore issues and work towards understanding problems more clearly. They can support you with issues such as emotional difficulties, decision making, academic work, organisational support, life crises and trauma, relationships and health problems. Individual sessions and group programs are available to support staff and students. DISABILITY SERVICES A Disability Advisor will help facilitate and provide services and support for students with short and long term disabilities and medical conditions, advise and support staff in meeting the needs of students with disabilities and promote an inclusive and accessible environment at Curtin. STUDENT SUPPORT AND OUTREACH SERVICES This service will help you identify social wellbeing concerns and work towards helping you nd a resolution. Types of issues may include accommodation concerns, nutritional needs, family or domestic violence, transportation issues and nancial hardship which make it difficult for you to study. VEHICLE SAFETY
Close all windows and lock all doors before leaving your vehicle. It is an offence to leave your keys in the ignition while your car is unattended. Remove any property from your vehicle which may attract a thief. Remove GPS units from display along with mounting brackets and suction cups. Remove credit cards, drivers licence and personal papers from your vehicle.

SECURITY SERVICES
The Curtin Security Centre is housed in Building 115, located at the North Entrance to Campus, opposite the Hockey Stadium. Special services offered by Curtin Security include: CABS - CURTIN ACCESS BUS SERVICE During semester students and staff who live locally can use the CABS service which runs every 30 minutes along three circular routes through Bentley, Tech Park and Waterford. The CABS is free and is restricted to students and staff of Curtin University, and buses can be hailed at any point along their designated route. Students and staff will need to provide a valid Curtin University Identication Card to utilise this service. Details of this service can be found at properties.curtin.edu.au/parking/cabs.cfm

PUBLIC TRANSPORT SAFETY


Know your timetables and avoid long waits especially if you are alone. Avoid isolated closed in shelters stand in well-lit areas and around other people. Know your train stop or bus stop number or location. On trains avoid empty carriages at night, sit near the security officers. On crowded trains or buses, hold your bag or backpack closely against your chest and ensure that the zippers are not easily accessible to others.
