Of all the Hawaiian islands, Maui is the perfect place to celebrate
your wedding vows. Known as the Valley Isle, it ofers the most
diverse scenery on land and sea. Here, nature is both raw and
refned. Youll fnd the pristine, palm-lined shores you would
expect in paradise, but also rich, red- and black-sand beaches, and
craggy seaside clifs that overlook a never-ending ocean.
Maui ofers couples countless wedding and reception sites to
choose from. All of Mauis beaches are public, but that doesnt
mean you cant fnd a secluded cove or your own secret waterfall to
hide from the world. You can get married barefoot on the beach,
or amid all the amenities of a world-class resort. Or perhaps you
would prefer a quaint seaside church, or the quiet class of a country
estate. Whatever your style, whatever your taste, Maui will give you
the experience of a lifetime.
Te island itself caters to the senses. Whether you are looking
for romance and relaxation, or adventure and nightlife, there
is something for everyone. Picture yourself watching the sunrise
over the great Haleakala biking down a volcano, or hiking
through lush trails and hidden caves... snorkeling with spinner
dolphins and giant sea turtles and wondering at white waterfalls
and the Seven Sacred Pools.
At night, you can sail the seas at sunset, or hit the dance foor at
a local club. Or simply steal awayjust the two of youand sip
champagne under the stars.
Aside from its breathtaking beauty and adventure, Maui brings you
something more on your wedding day: the spirit of aloha. In one
defnition, alo means to share, and ha means love or friendship.
Aloha, then, can be translated as to share love, to share friendship.
As you celebrate your own love and friendship on your wedding
day, you will feel this spirit surrounding you. Joining your lives
together, you will carry it with you. May you have the wedding day
of your dreams and may your hearts be forever flled with aloha.

In ancient times, guests to a wedding
would often bring cakes that would be
stacked on top of each other, a French
baker came up with the idea of making
them this way, and thus the tradition
was born. Hawaiian cakes are often
made with locally grown fruit such as
guava, lilikoi, coconut, banana, pineapple,
macadamia nuts and coffee. Island
themed cakes are also quite popular,
with edible seashells, and real or sugar
fowers. Your coordinator can help
you select just the right cake for your
wedding.

Coming to Maui to get married, you need a wedding
coordinator you can trustsomeone who knows the
island inside out and can help you make the right choices;
someone who is patient and precise, and who will be there
when you call. But how do you get started? We asked the
coordinators at A Paradise Dream Wedding the questions
that every bride wants to know.
Why do I need a wedding coordinator?
Whether youre planning a big elaborate event or a romantic
party for two, a wedding coordinator can simplify your life,
and make your wedding easierand more fun.
A wedding takes a professional crew of people that ft your
personality. Tey should not only be outstanding at what
they do, but also show up on time and respond to your
requests.
At A Paradise Dream Wedding, we work with only
the best. I talk to the bride frst to learn her vision for her
perfect day. Like an architect, I create a package that fts
her needs, and then we build the weddingassembling an
expert crew people who will make your wedding day run
smooth, said Jayanne Jeferys. Instead of making 50 calls,
you can make just one.
Having never been to Maui, how can I possibly plan a
wedding there?
Ninety-nine percent of the couples who come here have
never been to Maui. Like you, they dont know what to
expect, and have to take a leap of faith that theyve picked
the right people to plan the biggest day of their life.
Jayanne Jeferys
A romantic at heart, Jayanne guarantees your
wedding planning will include lots of laughter
with a large amount of happiness and confdence
on your part. Jayanne served as Head Wedding
Coordinator for fve years at the world famous

Wont I save money if I do everything myself?
Some couples want to coordinate everything on their own,
but they run the risk of making mistakes and creating stress
for themselves. Weve already made mistakes with the bad
vendors. You dont want to make those same mistakes on
your big day. Because vendors ofen give us a special rate, you
dont pay any more by working through us. You save time
and get a better quality product by going through a
coordinator,
How can I fnd a wedding coordinator I click with?
With dozens of wedding coordinators out there, it can be
overwhelming trying to choose a company that is right for
you. Start by a telephone call where you interview the
coordinator to get a sense of their style and approach. Some
questions you might ask include: What makes your services
diferent? How will you work with me to make sure my
needs are met? What is your knowledge of local sites and
resources? Who will be my main point of contact?
Let us take care of
the weddingyou
have a vacation to
plan! Theres a lot
to do, and you may
only have a short
time to do it in.
Before or afer the interview, notice how responsive they are
to your inquiries. For instance, do they return your email
or call within a couple hours, or does it take days or weeks?
Most importantly, listen to your gut instinct on whether
theres a ft. Do you feel they would be working for you, or
just working for the sale?
At A Paradise Dream Wedding, the wedding coordinators
have a commitment to bringing you seamless service, on
a personal level. We develop close relationships with our
clients. Although most of the work is done by phone and
email, we do it on a super human scale, said Jayanne. I
work with couples and families as if they are my friends
and I am a wise aunt who always knows the answer.
Its an islanddoes that mean my choices are limited?
When getting married on Maui, you can have it allor you
can get away from it all. Its up to you.
Tere are no rules here, said Jayanne. If you have the
budget, you can make your wedding as glamorous as you
like, with ice sculptures, private house parties, even
fireworks. Or you can arrive to your own wedding in your
own canoe. You cant do that anywhere else.
We ft every type of budget and personality, Some brides
want a fairytale wedding; others just want a BBQ on the
beach. No matter what you decidewith the beach and
ocean as your backdrop, it will be every bit as elegant.

In The Moment with......
Its been said that photography is personal.
Just as no two people approach the world
in exactly the same wayno two
photographers have the same command
of subject, color and contrast. It takes
more than expensive equipment and
technical know-how to be good. It takes
a sense of seeing. Whether you call it
intuition or artistry, photographer Gordon
Nash has mastered his own sense of
seeing. With more than 20 years in the
business, Gordon is able to anticipate
each moment, each emotion, as it unfolds
in his frame. He notices details that
others dont, and with an instant click,
captures a story has yet to be told.
My sense of storytelling is diferent from
other photographers, said Gordon, chatting
over a cup of soup in his Kihei, Maui
offce. Every person has their own visual
outlook on life. Take a look at Gordons
work, and youll see what he means. His
photos are elegant and artytheyre
clean, fawless. Mixing photojournalism
with fne-art photography, he creates
images that could easily appear in a
high-fashion magazine. Shooting photos,
he said, is similar to directing a movie.
Tis makes sense when you discover he
has a background in directing.
As early as college, Gordon opened
his own studio, training in photojour-
nalism and portrait photography. Shortly
afer, he moved to Japan where he worked
as television producer and director
Gordon
Nash
Gordon has an artistic stylehe not
only captures facial expressions, the
scenery, family members, but he puts
it all together in such a way that
many of his pictures become art,
some you can just feel the emotion
behind the picture. To me, thats
a photographer.Debbie & John

When he returned to the states six years
later, he opened his own production
company in 1991, providing photography,
graphic design and video. Today, he is
internationally recognized for his photos,
as well as his directing work in wedding
videos.
I know the right scenes to create
for my clients, he said. A good director
guides the actors on what to do, but lets
them do it on their own. Tats my job. Im
on location, helping couples create their own
movie, where they are the stars. Te
land- and waterscape of Maui give
Gordon plenty of set to play with. Hes
known for using big, dramatic skies as his
backdrop, placing couples in the most
natural, pristine surroundings. We craf
diferent looks and artistic situations,
said Gordon. As long as the weather per-
mits, we have the power to create whatever
the couple wants. Unlike most photogra-
phers that stick to sunset-only weddings,
Gordon started a new trend on Maui:
morning weddings. While sunset pho-
tos show dramatic purples and golds, in
morning weddings, you can see a gigantic
sky and bright, turquoise water, he ex-
plained. Te bride and groom become
the focal point among bottomless blues
and greensthe ocean, the lava rock, the
lush foliage. Tis is what people think of
when they picture paradise, said Gordon.
We give them that.

born and raised in Japan. Keiko cultivated
her taste and eye for art while working
for a fne art gallery in Tokyo, renowned
among museum curators worldwide.
She then moved to Seattle to open her
own graphic design company, serving as
a food stylist and designer for a major
Japanese soy sauce company. It was in
Seattle that she met Gordon. Te two
not only married, but also merged com-
panies. Te couple brought their wedding
services to Maui, where theyve been
operating for nearly ten years.
While she once dreamed to be a
curator for a museum, Keiko has taken
her place as curator of a diferent kind

gallery. With her innate artistic sense, Keiko
is a master photo editor, web designer,
and photographer for the company. With
her food styling and experience creating
original menus, she plans to expand the
company into a full-service caterer.
Although owned by a husband-and-
wife team, A Paradise Dream Wedding is
anything but Mom & Pop. Its one of the
only high-end wedding services on Maui

The urge to photograph comes in part from the deep
desire to live with more integrity to live more in
peace with the world, and to help others to do the same.
Wynn Bullock
always been the core of the business,
said Gordon, who, without argue, shoots
more weddings than anyone on Maui.
People know and trust his workand he
doesnt disappoint. Tese days, though,
Gordon isnt the only photographer in the
company getting all the credit. He has a
growing staf of talentsome veteran,
some emerging. Because I want to keep
the quality of the photos high, Im creating
an environment of artistic development
here, where new photographers can learn
and grow. Actually, Im hoping to create a
few clones of me, he laughed. For most
weddings, Gordon uses an assistant who
does the lighting and acts as a second
shooter. Keiko explained why. We give
the client the same shot from diferent
angles, she said. One person will shoot
wide angle, another with a long lens. Tat
way, we dont miss any feeting details. We
show that an entirely different world
exists all in the same moment.
Its true the photo packages may be
a little more expensive, but this process
brings more value to each shoot. Its
having someone there to help with the
lighting, and help the bride get her dress
and hair perfect, said Gordon. That
attention to detail creates a better
experience for the client, and a better
opportunity for us to capture their day.
What helps, too, is that Gordon has the
best people working for him in the com-
panya top-notch team of coordinators,
videographers, ministers, musicians, stylists
you name it. Its a culturally diverse,
intelligent groupand they eat, sleep
and breathe integrity into the service
they provide.
Te Japanese say the client is god,
and we agree, said Gordon. We try to
live that service mind-set. When Im
working with a couple, I put their needs
ahead of my own. If I can make them
have the ultimate experience, that makes
me happy. Its what keeps me in this business.
Tose who have seen him in action agree.
Gordon treats all couples like they are
the most important thing to him that
dayand they are. He has a way of being
calm and relaxed, and helps them be the
same, said photographer Eric Dahl, who
accompanies Gordon on shoots when not
doing his own.
Gordon and Keiko take their service
mind-set one step further: When travel-
ing, they actually study it. Because were
in the industry, were always trying to
learn more about how other companies
service their clients, and what amenities
they ofer. Tis is our ongoing education.
What have they learned? To ofer service
before it is asked; to pay extreme attention
to detail; and to treat our clients with the
greatest respect, said Keiko. We want to
give service not for what we get from it,
but because it comes from the heart.
And thats just what they do: create an
individually crafted, luxury wedding
experience for youwith heart. Tis
is how A Paradise Dream Wedding
keeps it personal, said Gordon. We
treat each and every couple to the dream
they deserve.

Divine Inspiration
PHOTOGRAPHY BY GORDON NASH + ERIC DAHL TEXT BY EMILY SCHLESINGER
Kapalua Bay Beach, Maui, April 3, 2005

Caroline is a classical violinist who does
solo concerts and plays in a string
quartet. She played with Alicia Keys at
the Grammys and has played on
the Tonight Show with a variety of per-
formers. She met her husband, John, in
graduate school in Northern California.
John is an attorney who handles patents
and intellectual property in nanotechnol-
ogy for a company in Pasadena, where
the couple has made their home.
When we got engaged, we knew that
we wanted a small, intimate wedding.
We wanted to take both our families
on a vacation: rather than having
just one day, we wanted everyone to
go somewhere beautiful and fun for
fve days so they could all get to know
each other.
Id been to Maui before and loved
it. Maui seemed perfect for what we
wanted because its a place that every-
one could enjoy for a vacation, but
its also really romantic, so we could
stay there for our honeymoon. And
its not overly touristy, compared to
Honolulu or other, bigger places.
Was it hard to plan the wedding? No!
I just got on the Internet and started
looking at photographers and forists
and wedding planners and I actually
thought it was easy, in a way, because
I didnt have to go and see people and
do interviews. I just did it all online
in my room! Mauis far away, so you
have to relinquish some controlyou
cant micromanage because youre
not there.
I just looked on the web and chose
my favorite photographerGordon
Nash. Because I loved his instincts
about photography, I decided I would
trust his instincts on the caterer and
the flowers and the locations and
26|
everything else. So I went with the
company and it turned out great.
I wanted a beach wedding, because
there are so many beautiful locations
and theyre free, and some of them are
really spectacular. Our coordinator was
really helpful in sending us pictures
of diferent locations. We decided to
go with Kapalua Bay.
Gordon called me half an hour
before the ceremony and said that
there were people on the beach at our
location, and he was thinking about
moving our ceremony up to a little
grassy spot overlooking the beach.
And I said yes, that sounded ideal.
I trusted him, and I kind of liked
the idea of the grass underfootI
thought that would be very lush, color-
wise. So we ended up not having it on
the sand, but it turned out great.
One thing that made our wedding
special was that Johns grandfather
married ushe got ordained online.
Apparently he took a lot of pride in
it, and would get up at three in the
morning and run through the entire
ceremony three times through just to
see how it wentto see what would

happen if he did it when he was
tired! Now he wants to marry all of
his grandchildren, and Johns cousin
had a wedding last summer, and he
married him. So its turned into kind
of a fun new thing for him. All
that paperworkhe wanted to use it
more than once!
John and I wrote the whole ceremony
and the vows. Tat was a fun touch.
I looked online, because I didnt
even know where to start. But then
we wrote them together, and they
were so much more personal. When
you really think about the vows,
you digest them all a lot more than
if youre just reading themit led
to fun discussions about what we
wanted marriage to be. And we got
to share little personal stories during
the ceremony, which was neat to have
and really fun to share with family
and to have on the video.
Were we nervous about the photog-
raphy? For some reason, I wasnt. Id
seen all those pictures and thought
they were beautiful, so I just went
with it. Because he has so many great
references, and everyone just said
that he was so easy to work with and
made you feel so comfortable, and
it wasnt about just doing big posed
family-portrait sessions and stuf like
that, it was just very natural.
We had such positive responses to
the pictures, and I credit Gordon for
itfor his good eye for location and
lighting and everything. Tey helped
me choose what time of day to do it
so the lighting would be right. Teres

pay attention to each other and to the
events. Te more they feel good, the
more they look their best. To Eric,
photography is about the art behind
the images. He describes his own personal style as
a combination of three aspects: photo journalistic, direc-
tive and artistic. I look to capturing people when they
dont expect it. I may give them some ideas on what to
dothats where the direction comes inbut the action is
all them.
Intuition plays a big role, he said. Like any artist, Eric
has learned to listen to his own intuition. You have to
be able to foresee whats coming nextto understand when
a person is going to react, so you can be right there to catch
it. I look for whats uncommon. I try to see what people
may not always see, he said. I fnd those moments when
their real beauty, their inner life, shines through.
Tere are a lot
of photographers on
Maui. I recommend
looking at all the
wedding photos you
can before choosing a
photographer. Its not just about choosing someone because
you like them; its about connecting with the visual images
that they capture. Check out their web sites and photo
galleries so you can see their styleand decide if that style
fts your own. Afer all, its your wedding day. You should
get exactly what you want. Eric Dahl
Eric Dahl is one of those guys you like
even before you know him. On the
surface, hes calm, casual, and bona fde
friendlybut dont let his lightness fool you. Underneath,
hes someone who is serious about his crafand what it
means for his role in art, and in life.
Eric is no stranger to Hawaii. As a kid, he spent six
years on the Big Islanduntil a volcano erupted and
literally surrounded his house. (Luckily he and his family were
not in it at the time.) Tey moved Washington State, where
Eric developed his eye for design. He studied visual arts and
graphic design at Spokane Falls Community College, and
afer college, worked for a short while at a print house. Eric
liked the job, but had more of a creative calling. He decided
to move back to Hawaiithis time, landing on Maui.
He started at A Paradise Dream Wedding in graphic
design and photo assisting. Te more photo shoots I went
on, the more I longed to be behind the camera myself, said
Eric. I learned how the camera worked, and how I could
bring my creative sense to choosing diferent lighting and
angles. He had a good role modelthe renowned
photographer Gordon Nashwho trained Eric in Pro-
fessional Photography. Today, Erics talent and training
speak for itself; already, he has made his mark within
the Maui wedding industry. People expect a lot from their
wedding photographer, and Eric doesnt take that lightly.
When we say its a dream wedding, we mean it. Its their
dream. And the photos from that day will shape how they
remember it.
Of course, not everyone is used to getting their picture
taken, or being the center of attention. A big part of photography
is creating an atmosphere where people feel good about
what theyre doing, explained Eric. I encourage them to

We chose Maui because thats where
we were starting our honeymoon
we were going to take the road to
Hana and then do a little bit of island
hopping. We thought, Maui has
everything were looking for, why not
just get married there?
When we decided to have our wedding
in Maui, we understood that it would
be small. Because a lot of people
couldnt go, we fgured that pictures
would be the most important thing
that we could bring back for our
friends. We wanted photographs that
were excellent, so we looked at the
Maui Wedding Association web site,
and we just clicked through everyone
on their site and all the packages that
were available.
Gordon Nashs pictures stood out for
their quality, and there was nothing
else to it. Te photos he had on his
web site were amazingwhereas a
lot of the other photographers just
had a few samples on display, he
had galleries upon galleries of these
beautiful high-quality pictures. Te
second we saw that, we knew that
thats what we wanted for our wedding.
I was impressed that he was actually
able to post quite a number of
photographs of Real Weddings that
captured the entire wedding
instead of having scattered pictures
from diferent weddings, he was able
to show more-or-less whole wed-
dings. And we were very attracted to

blue waters to the intense colors of
the fowers to the clean white of the
bridal gown. We were also loved the
way he captured small details, such as
doves being released or the splash of
the oceans waves.
Te resort e-mailed us the entire
program and all the vows, so we had
read them and we knew what to
expect. Te whole thing went by so
quicklyI just remember gazing at
my husband and looking out at the
ocean and in a fash it was over, and
we were married. But we had a
videographer who was able to capture
the entire ceremony, so we look back
at that to recap the memories.
Gordon was booked for another
wedding on our wedding day, and
the coordinator whom I spoke with
recommended Eric. She said that
Eric was trained by Gordon, that
their styles were indistinguishable.
We found the quality of his pictures
to be very similar to Gordons, and
were very satisfed!
Te photographs were excellentwe
were amazed and we got a lot of
compliments. We werent too
nervous about having our pictures
taken, just because the photographer
wasnt intrusive and he just kind of
blended into the background. Afer
the pictures came out, we were like,
Oh, we didnt even know he was
shooting from that angle! Everything
was very natural, and we felt
completely at ease.
We were married at the Fairmont Kea Lani, on the Pacifc Terracea small, crescent-shaped terrace overlooking the
ocean. Both our families were able to fy out, including our siblings and a few of our very close friends, so we had
twenty people there. It was pretty much what we had envisioned: a small cozy wedding right by the sea, with the
palm trees and the warm Maui weather.

Te best time to come to Maui
would be the winter season which is
November through April, which tends
to have more rain (especially on the
North and East sides of the island).
But winter also brings the biggest
waves and an annual visit from the
humpback whales. Te least ideal time
of year to come is during peak travel
seasonfrom December 15 through
January 15when fights cost more
and the beaches are busier. If you are

Romantic Beaches
Maui beaches are hard to beat when it comes to beautiful
tropical island scenery. Even a simple wedding on the
beach is romantic and spectacular, by its very location.
If you are considering having your wedding on a beach,
you need to be aware that one of its greatest attractions
that is public and therefore free can also act as a disad-
vantage. Others may be using the beach for recreational
purposes, or there may be other weddings going on in
the distance, so there is no way to guarantee total privacy.
Class
However, other beach users are very respectful and
supportive of the romance and beauty of weddings, and
most ofen steer clear of the immediate vicinity. And our
experienced wedding photographers know how to create
beautiful wedding photos that do not include shots of
people not involved in their weddings. Important note:
Larger weddings with chairs and arches do have a state
or county permit fee of $400. Your coordinator will let
you know if your wedding will require a permit.

The Cove
This small, secluded beach in South Maui is called wedding beach by some because it
one of the most picturesque beaches on any island and perfect for smaller weddings.
The Cove has everythingpalm trees, lava rock, islands right off the shore, and a

few visitors. By sunset, most recreational beach users have gone back to their hotels to
prepare for dinner, and there can be one wedding at one end of the beach and another
at the other end. Since the beach is small, we limit wedding attendance at the Cove to
no more than 15 people, including bride and groom.

South Maluaka
Located on the south end of the Prince Hotel property, South Maluaka has several
beautiful lawn areas with dramatic ocean views that are suitable for weddings, as well as

Ironwoods - Kapalua
Close to the Ritz Carlton Hotel, Ironwoods is a long and wide beach which often has
surfers off shore plying the waves. It is a great west side location for larger weddings
although access to the beach can be diffcult for people with disabilities. Kapalua can be
rainy.
Honokawai
Across from Lahuiokalani Church near Kaanapali, Honokawai is a good place to
take pictures after a church ceremony. Also known as Kaanapali Ocean Church,
this is a cute little Hawaiian-style church, across the street from the beach.
Ritz Carlton Beach
One of the better West Side beaches, this one is on the northern end of the Ritz
Carlton Hotel property. The northern end of the beach is called DT Fleming Beach.
The southern section, nearest the Ritz, is not heavily used. Very convenient if you are
having your reception on the West side of the island.

Kapalua Bay Beach
A lovely arc of a white sand beach, Kapalua is a popular West side location. There is a
condominium close by, so it may be crowded at times, and a major timeshare/hotel
is under construction in the area about which your coordinator will have updated
information.
Wailea Beach
This is the beach directly in front of the Four Seasons and the Grand Wailea Hotels. In

rest rooms and a pavilion and is often used by visitors staying in the large
condominium developments that surround it, and for west side weddings. It

Lawn, this location, just a bit above sea-level, allows
the rolling surf and golden sunset to caress your
intimate ceremony.
The Prince Courtyard provides a picturesque
backdrop amidst an exotic tropical garden with a
graceful waterfall, rolling brook and tranquil Koi pond.
This location is the perfect setting for the ultimate
dream wedding and for wedding photographs to last
a lifetime.

than the beach if you have a lot of
guests. You can have your reception

more room for eating and drinking.
The downside of the resort wedding is
that they can be very costlyat
least $1,500 to $3,000.

For the more relaxed
Hawaiian style......
The private estates share most of the advantages
and disadvantages as the hotels. At the estates, you
generally have a private caterer, which can be a
good thing but is generally expensive. Estates may
be slightly more private than hotels, but the cost can
be greater. Private homes dont always have good
alternative locations in the case of rain.
Right
Tropical Garden
This botanical garden is in the sacred Iao Valley rainforest.
Weddings usually take place at a very nice gazebo set on
a hillside amid the lush vegetation, which thrives in the
damp climate. The nearest beach suitable for photos is
about 30 minutes away. The gardens are well maintained,
but be prepared for the possibility of mosquitoes.
Above
Olowalu Plantation
This former Sugar Plantation Managers estate, Olowalu
is one of our all time favorite private estates for those
who want a very private catered wedding and recep-
tion. The beach itself, though, is rocky rather than sandy,
but the estate has a broad expanse of lawn right on the
ocean for your use and a lovely ocean view.

The congregations minister, who performs a very nice ceremony, is

Kaanapali Ocean

the beach. You can bring your own minister!
Lahaina Methodist

near beaches suitable for photography, although it does not have
an ocean view.
Keolahou Church
Another Hawaiian-style church in North Kihei, Keolahou is across
the street from a good beach for photography.
The Right Church For You
A church is a good choice for people who wish to honor certain religious beliefs.
Its also a good way to make sure that youre not going to be rained on. Churches
tend to be less expensive, so you can have an indoor private location for much
less money than at a hotel. Usually there are nice beaches close by for photography
after the wedding.

St. Johns
St. Johns Episcopal church, is a charming church about 45 minutes
from a beach. The elevation usually means the weather is cooler,
and the church has spectacular views of the ocean and the West
Maui Mountains. Only the minister at this church can perform
ceremonies there.
Maria Lanakila
A beautiful Catholic Church with dramatic Spanish architecture,
Maria Lanakila is near a beach for post-ceremony photography. It
is situated on a side street in the older section of Lahaina. Beautifully
maintained and designed, it features a second story choir loft from

Hana Wanalulua
Located in the remote, East Maui area called Hana, Wanalulua Church
is totally away from the maddening crowd. Getting there takes a long,
winding, sometimes one lane road that is world famous for its tropical
beauty and breathtaking ocean views. If you go out there, you should
stay for a night or two, because the trip takes several hours. The area
is also accessible by helicopter and small private plane.
Holy Innocent

Choosing the right minister
Pastor James Kimo Kirkman

ministry, where he have been serving for
the past year. Pastor Kimo is an Associate

celebration with the blowing of the conch
shell, the oli (Hawaiian chant) and closes with
a Hawaiian prayer. He will perform religious,
non-religious, vow renewals and is open to
travel wherever needed.
Rev. Vance Rosete
Rev. Vance was our favorite minister for many
years until he went to Alaska. He has now
returned with his family to make Maui his
home. He does a very sincere ceremony with
much personal warmth.
Rev. Kenneth Kalei Hoopai

Ministers. He performs his ceremonies from
the heart with much aloha. He includes a
Hawaiian chant in all his ceremonies. He is

a love song on occasion. Hawaiian Christian
ceremony only.
Rev, Diana George
Warm and personal, Diana is a state-licensed
inter-faith minister who conducts heart-centered
ceremonies that evoke a sense of the sacred.

spiritual weddings, vow renewals and commitment
ceremonies, and as a writer will work with
you to customize your ceremony.
Kahuna Alalani Hill
Alalani is a licensed Minister in the State of
Hawaii, and was ordained in 1981. She has
also received additional training from many
teachers and elders in her 30 years on a
Spiritual path. She is also an accomplished
singer and has been known to break out into
a beautiful duet with our musicians.
Rev. Tino Rosete
Rev. Valentine (Tino) Rosete is a very popular
Hawaiian Minister. He performs either a
religious or non religious ceremony and will
also include the Hawaiian Oli Aloha chant. He
performs each and every ceremony from the
heart with plenty of Aloha.
Rev. Pia Aluli
He has spent most of his life performing
Hawaiian music for hotels, restaurants, con-
ventions and weddings. He has also toured
extensively in Canada and the mainland sharing
his culture and Hawaiian music. In 1998 Pia
decided to redirect his life and become a
minister, something he had an interest and
desire to do for a long time. He still plays
Hawaiian music, but these days he is largely
focused on offciating.
Rev. Richard Lewis

Making Music
Rhythm and music abound in nature:
the rhythmic drumming of the surf,
the measured meter of rain, the rustling
breeze blowing through palms. On an
occasion as important as your wedding,
music should be a natural part of your
ceremony and celebration. Background
music through the ceremony adds
ambiance to your exchange of vows.

If you are planning a romantic dinner
or reception to follow, live music
will make all the diference. You can
choose from any style, any instrument.
Maui has many talented musicians, and
we know the best. You might select a
Hawaiian guitarist and singer whose
soft, melodic voice creates a tender
mood. Or perhaps you would prefer
something more classicala single
harpist or a violin. From saxophone
soloists to classical duets, jazz trios to
fve-piece rock bands, our musicians
let you choose among a wide selection
of music styles: classical, contemporary,
Hawaiian, pop, jazz, big band, ethnic,
country, religious, Celtic, swing and
show tunes.
64|
Te entertainment doesnt stop at
musicians: We can also arrange for
various types of wedding or reception
performances. You can stay true
to the Hawaiian theme by inviting
traditional hula dancers, Tahitian
drummers, conch shell blowers, fre
dancers, or a slack key guitarist. Or
amaze your guests with an entire
luau dinner show, with all of the
above. Want your guests to get up
and boogie? Well have a professional
Disc Jockey waiting with the song list
of your choice. Teres nothing like an
upbeat DJ to encourage everyone to
hit the dance foor.

Many of Mauis musicians can record
professional CDs at the event, a
wonderful way to commemorate
your evening. Visit our web site at
www.MauiWedding.net for pricing
and music selection.
Our guitar player/singer
was wonderful. He seemed
just as happy to be there as
we were. When he played
our wedding song, it felt
like it belonged to us.

With the laid back lifestyle that Maui
provides, the last thing one would
expect is a traffc jam, but it sometimes
happens. Afternoon beach weddings
have great light, but also collide with
Mauis rush hour which happens
about 3 pm. Many ministers and
musicians have tight bookings, so
weddings must start on time. Parking
at some of the most picturesque
beaches is tight. Letting us take care
of your transportation needs will
alleviate these and other problems
and let you focus on the enjoyment
of this most special day in style and
safety. We can arrange buss for your
wedding party, separate cars for your
arrival, and everything in between.

In a beach wedding, most couples
like to be barefoot, giving them a
more playful and laid-back feel. But
if thats not for you, there are plenty
of options. Te bride might consider
sequined slippers (Hawaiian for fip
fops), a pair of delicate sandals, or even
something more sensiblewhite wed-
ding sneakers! If you must have high
heels, save them for afer your beach
ceremonythey just dont work in the

leather or suede slippers, or a pair of
lightweight loafers.

Want to add a special Maui touch to
your feet? Wear fip fops that etch
the words Just Mauied on the sand.
Great for photos!

Call one of our wedding specialists

From a traditional white gowns and
black tuxedos, to fowery sundresses
and aloha shirts, feel free to dress as
formal or as casual as you like. Some
couples even get married in their bathing
suits. Bring your own attire from

Mauis local formal wear shops. We

you customized service and all the
latest designs and fashions. Ask about
our special Wedding Attire Package
that will cover you from head to toe.
If you do bring your own clothes, have
it shipped ahead of time so its pressed
and perfect for your day.

For the bride, we usually recommend
something simple and elegant that
you can move around in; long trains
usually dont work well on the beach.
Grooms usually look best in white- or
cream-colored linen pants and a classic
silk shirt. Or if you love formal wear,
white satin and tails look great against
a sandy beach and blue sky. Just keep
in mind: it can get hot. Choose some-
thing youll be comfortable in, so that
you can relax on your big day.
Feel free to dress as formal or as casual
as you like. Some couples even get married
in their bathing suits.

Flower Girl/Ring Boy
Since ancient times, the dove has
been regarded as a symbol of love,
peace and purity of heart. What
could be more meaningful than to
set free a dozen white doves into
the sky? Beyond photography and
video, doves are the third most
popular feature at the weddings
we coordinate.
Doves
Butterfies have long symbolized
major life changes and, in some
cultures, are thought to bring
eternal bliss and joy. As you
watch these bright Monarch
butterfies dance in the breeze,
you too will have a feeling of
lightness and joy.
Butterfies
One of the oldest traditions in
Hawaii is the giving or exchang-
ing of leis. At weddings, this
tradition is just as important
as exchanging rings. When you
place a lei around someones
neck, you express aloha for
that personyour love, caring
and endearment. You can make
your wedding traditional and
romantic by including your own
lei exchange in the ceremony.
As you places a lei around your
beloveds neck with a kiss, your
minister will tell the story of its
signifcance. For more on wed-
ding fowers and leis, see page 37.
