For the teachers: Before the children begin this unit, give them each a year using the resource provided. Each year has a date and a simple fact about something that happened in the year. Set them the task of finding out more information about that year. If they are struggling then give them some help and print off some information for them to use or provide books that they can use to look through. Alternatively ask them to consider what they want to know about that year and get them to research that. Give the children a week to produce these and then line them all up and get them to read out one fact about each of their years. Take a picture of each student and then hang these up in the classroom to form a timeline with facts about Tudor times. This will then help with lesson one and start to get the children considering chronology of events by personalising it to them and getting them actively involved. For the students: Homework task Consider the year you have been given and find out as much as you can about it, then please write this on your sheet youve been given. You can use the internet or books to help you and you can include whatever information you want for that year. If you are stuck, see if you can find out any information before or after the year youve been given. I have given you each one simple fact for each year. Look at this fact and consider whether you can you give me more information about it. Try and tell me what happened, why it happened, where it happened or how it happened if you can. You can decorate the sheet however you like, but the most thoughtful and well-presented year sheets will receive house points. If you cant use the internet at home, please come and see me so I can give you some information to use and take home with you.
