the

Punching is much more than just making holes in sheet metal. With TruPunch machines you can achieve complete machining. A part is almost completely produced on one machine. Upstream and downstream production steps become unnecessary. The more a machine has to offer, the more it can produce complete, even complex parts. And this is where

TRUMPF punching machines really take the lead in addition to pure punching technology, they also offer various forming capabilities: from recesses of various depths with just one tool, to bending, to continuous contour beads, steps or separating cuts. Smooth cutting with the MultiShear tool is an option with the TruPunch, as are thread tapping and scribing parts.

are so convincing.

A good head for punching.

TRUMPF punching machines really have a head for punching an intelligent punching head which rotates all tools 360 on the C axis to any angle, no matter what their shape, size or placement in the magazine. The benets are obvious. You need fewer tools and eliminate unnecessary tool changes. So, your costs are lower and your production is more economical. At the same time, part quality is increased since the tools are placed against the contour and nibbling is unnecessary. The 360 rotation has additional benets. It simplies the process of designing parts and programming the machine you no longer have to worry about which tools can be rotated and which cannot. And, many recent tool developments are based on the rotation technique so you are well positioned for future technologies. The TruPunch punching head will accept any tool. The hydrostatic bearing in the ram provides constant support to all tools that may be subjected to off-center loads with or without angled shear. This reduces the necessary punching force, which is not possible with other systems. The integrated spray lubrication protects your tools while the active head return ensures process reliability. The programmable active presser foot helps perfect your machining process. When active, the foot presses down on the sheet just before each punch stroke and holds it level. Since the force of the presser foot can be independently adjusted, you can process materials with sensitive surfaces without leaving pressure marks. When programmed for passive mode, the presser foot remains just above the sheet.

Components of a punching tool.

One MultiTool integrates up to 10 punches.

Everything you need in tooling.

We have decades of experience in the production of highquality punching and forming tools. And we offer the widest range of tools on the market for punching machines. We also produce custom tools made to order. Our international sales structure and global logistics network ensure fast delivery anywhere in the world. With the MultiBend tool, you can bend strips up to 1 inch tall and 2 inches long faster than on any press brake and with high quality. MultiShear provides cut edges so smooth they are virtually indistinguishable from laser cut edges. But, at the low costs you expect from punching. Wheel tools are especially fast whether you are cutting, offsetting or beading. With 360 rotation technology, wheel technology is possible even for circles and curves. Our latest tool innovation is our patent-pending deburring unit. In the past deburring workpieces was an additional step, now your TruPunch takes care of it for you.

This saves you a complete operation and lowers your costs. The principle is simple. The burr is displaced and the edge beveled. It even works with coated parts, since the coating is not harmed in the deburring process. With Multitools, which can hold up to ten punches, multiple machining processes can be performed without having to change tools. You save space in the magazine as well as time, since fewer setups are required. Special tools that prevent scratching, as well as embossing and marking tools for indelible workpiece identication complete the assortment of available tools. No matter which tools you use, we offer a number of resources to make handling them easier. QuickSet helps you align your tools and measure their length. QuickSharp sharpens punches and dies for the next job.

Setup virtually takes care of itself.

With the TruPunch, setup is as easy as it gets. Our tools are quickly assembled from the punch, stripper and die. They are then inserted in the cartridge while the machine is running. For pre-loading, you only need one type of cartridge for all tools. Simply place the pre-loaded cartridges in the easily accessible linear magazine. Since all of the magazine stations have a standard design, any type and size of tool or clamp can be loaded in any station. Setup errors are immediately noticeable not only because you have all of the tools in view at all times, but also because the machine automatically checks where the tools and clamps are located before the program runs.

Both stable and accessible.

The design principle of all TruPunch machines is an open C frame, which makes both the machine and workpiece accessible from three sides. There is plenty of room for loading and unloading the machine manually or with one of our automation components. The highly stable machine means precise coordinate guidance, preventing deviations due to bumps or jerks. In addition, the accompanying work table supports the full surface of the sheet being processed to prevent inaccuracies.

Loading tool cartridges in the well-organized linear magazine.

Sorting with certainty.

When you can unload workpieces quickly, you increase process reliability. TruPunch handles this with programmable parts chutes, which transfer parts quickly into the nished parts bins. This process can also be supported with a push-out tool. A vacuum sucks chips and punching slugs safely into the chip container, regardless of which die you are currently using.

Everything under control.

The control system on your TruPunch makes things easy for you. A clearly organized menu provides the relevant information for every operation. The online help answers questions as they arise. And, if that should ever prove insufcient with your permission, our Teleservice will link up with your machine through the integrated modem. Well gure out the problem and nd a quick solution. So downtime is reduced to a minimum.

Its dynamic exterior is apparent at rst glance; its inner qualities demand a second look. And its worth it. With the TruPunch 5000, punching is the alternative to laser cutting. Its impressive productivity and numerous additional processing options add up to a major step forward in complete sheet metal processing.

13

None Faster.
The worlds most productive punching machine is the TruPunch 5000. This machine comes equipped with the next generation in control software. The results are something to be proud of. The C axis accelerates and rotates faster than ever before and the tools can be put in any position with up to 330 revolutions per minute. So you can machine contours very fast and form threads in record time. Even on the thinnest sheets with a narrow kerf.

None more productive.

Its the acceleration values that make the TruPunch 5000 so efcient. We achieve these by using lighter components and tool cartridges. Then there are the newly designed drives, which are water cooled for the rst time. The X axis now accelerates at 2 g to a maximum speed of 4567 in/min. Another special feature is the gantry drive on the Y axis. Two separate, highly efcient motors are synchronously controlled with no mechanical connection to provide high travel speeds. Fast tool changes, within less than 3 seconds (or 0.7 seconds with MultiTool), make the TruPunch 5000 the alternative to laser cutting.

14

Intelligent details.
The new control version reduces non-productive time by some 23%, which means a measurable productivity increase of up to 15%. The operating computer in the TruPunch 5000 runs far faster than its predecessor. And the larger color monitor on the control panel provides a better overview. Tool life can be extended, especially in the case of forming in stainless steel. In addition to the standard tool spray lubrication, a spray nozzle is now available for the die as well.

success.
Our TruTops Punch software is designed with our customers needs in mind. We developed it specically for punching and combination processing. From inception to the nished part, it completely utilizes TRUMPFs expertise. It works well with our automation components and is intuitive and easy to use. TruTops Punch and TruPunch machines are perfectly coordinated with one another. Only three steps are required to complete an NC program. First, existing production drawings are imported from your 2D or 3D CAD system using TruTops Punch standard interfaces or they can be drawn in using TruTops Punch. The CAD functions are coupled with macros for frequently-used or unusual geometries and make producing a drawing fast and In the second step, optimized sheet layouts and the fastest production processes are created automatically or manually with TruTops Punch. Either way maximum processing speeds are ensured. The nest processor calculates the best possible sheet layout for any number of individual parts. Even in manual layout mode there are numerous automation features to assist you. So, fast reliable sheet layout is as easy as can be. TruTops Punch can process blanks and arrange fabricated single parts multiple times and with the least possible waste per sheet. The software also allows you to dene sample parts, which are produced ahead of the complete sheet. efcient. TruTops Punch analyzes every drawing. Open contours are automatically closed, duplicate drawing elements deleted and rough contour transitions cleaned up.

26

The sheets are then processed by rows, by columns or part by part, as required, for the most efcient tool usage, especially with small lot sizes. Since the TruTops Punch software knows every detail of every TruPunch machine, it can nd the fastest processing sequence for your machine. It denes the punching of single holes as well as complete contours. TruTops Punch automatically makes shared separation cuts between the workpieces as needed. The automatic repositioning and trimming functions help you program quickly. Finished parts are discharged directly through the parts chute or unloaded by the SheetMaster automation component TruTops Punch selects the right suction for the material and ensures that the nished parts are placed properly on the unloading stack. And, TruTops Punch is just as methodical in planning the loading and sheet skeleton removal processes.

In the third step, the software automatically creates the nished NC program and sends it to the machine. Along with the NC program, TruTops Punch generates easy-to-read setup plans with detailed processing times and tooling information. Multiple NC programs can also be combined into a single production plan for automated production. For its hardware platform, TruTops Punch requires only a standard PC with the Windows operating system. The software can be integrated with your internal network and linked with the TruPunch through the online connection.

pay off.

that

The processing speed of your punching machine and the material ow determine part production time and ultimately, their cost. Our automation components lower your turnaround times. Raw material is loaded at the right time and the nished workpieces are produced reliably sorted by type. With minimal setup time, there is more exibility for completing orders. You can easily schedule to cover break times or run additional shifts as needed. Manual intervention in the production sequence carries the risk of errors or material damage. Using automation eliminates that risk and improves workpiece quality.

28

Our experienced project engineers really know their business in sheet metal processing and material ow, in transport, warehouse and control technology, and of course in customer consulting. As an experienced single-source supplier, we provide comprehensive turn-key solutions, including programming and process control.

29

The heart of every automated system is the SheetMaster, which works during production - while the machine is in use. Using suction technology, it loads and unloads the machine, ensuring that your workpieces are handled with care. It automatically feeds the sheet metal while sensors monitor processing, from the raw sheet to the nished workpiece. The GripMaster works with the SheetMaster as a unit while the TruPunch is being reloaded to dispose of scrap skeletons and strips and automatically stacks them on a scissor table. The ShearMaster goes a step further. During non-productive time, it shreds the skeletons into manageable strips, which
