This lack of balance and values is threatening the very core of society today, and there is an urgent need to address this problem and solve it, if we are to live in a planet that is peaceful and harmonious and where all citizens can live as brothers and sisters, with love being the common uniting force. In this environment, the most important education is an education in the values that we need to live our lives. While schools have long tried to educate children by giving them the skills to survive and succeed in their material lives, to feed, clothe and shelter themselves and their families, it is very rare to find a school that teaches these values. Omega International School was established for this very purpose by its founder, Shri. P. Rajagopalachari, President of Shri Ram Chandra Mission. The school strives to bring to life the view of the founder that, Omega strives to produce youngsters who are balanced, with soul, mind and body working in unison, with the soul guiding the mind in its activities and the body acting under the guidance of the mind. To this end, the school is working hard to establish a program of teaching values where the children learn these vales not as taught by their teachers, but rather through a journey where they discover these values by themselves in such a manner that the values become a part of their psyche. The VBSE program has class modules and programs for every age and class year, and supporting these are the other activities and programs that support the learning process. Starting with values like Health & Nutrition at a very young age, we progress on to Self-awareness and Selfmanagement, Sensitivity and Creativity, and, as the children grow older, to values like Environmental Morality, Love & Compassion, Citizenship, Truth & Wisdom and Peace & Justice. These are capped off finally by Spirituality. The last few values are all taught in the higher classes, when the children are in High School. The children also have classes in Life skills Activities, which teach them basic skills that they will need in life: Sewing, House-keeping, Laundry, Cooking, Basic office skills etc. Omega International School is perhaps unique in this respect also, that it tries to work as much with the teachers and staff as with the children, in the knowledge that, since the children observe the elders all the time, if they dont set a good example, the children will never imbibe the values and the whole thing will collapse.

The entire school is therefore a grand experiment to create the citizen of the future. I am very happy to say that the results are beginning to show. The children who have left the school after graduating are all living evidence of this. They have a heightened awareness of their environment and where they fit in it. They are balanced, more so than their peers, in that they are able to assign the right values to the various aspects of their lives. They have a larger bandwidth and are therefore better qualified to handle lifes challenges. They P Rajagopalachari have a keen sense of the balance between the material and spiritual sides to their lives and want to optimize their lives without compromising on one in favour of the other.

Dear All, A plant needs water, air, soil, light and plenty of space to grow and become a tree, similarly a child needs many positive values to become a useful citizen of the world. Value based education has become the buzzword in educational institutions to inculcate moral and ethical values. At Omega our Value Based Spiritual Education curriculum stands unique in terms of facilitating students to explore values from class 1 to 12. Nine values have been identified and activities are taken up for each value, taking one value per month. We aim to incorporate an awareness of spiritual values into each activity that takes place in the VBSE classroom. Parents understand the importance of these values, which children are exposed to at Omega. Naturally, they have the greatest influence on their children, being their first and primary role models. We, therefore, welcome feedback from parents/staff members, stories, articles and ideas which may help in setting an example for children to follow. BE SIMPLE AND IN TUNE WITH NATURE

The simpler we are, the closer we are to the nature. Being simple refers to our lives. We might have seen people with 10 houses or 5 hotels etc. which is more than we need. Being simple means having those things which is needed by us and keeping other things for fellow human beings. When we live as a simple farmer or a fisherman, we can enjoy the gifts from the nature, but in the busy lives, we have no time to look at the beautiful sun or moon. We cut trees everyday but we never think what they give us and how we can be thankful. Now in the present day world, there is an accumulation of unnatural resources and therefore mans closeness with nature has decreased. When we grow a garden in our house, we may try to be in tune with the nature. Keeping some grains for the birds will help us to get in tune with the nature. We can avoid using plastics to save nature. When we try to save nature, we are actually getting in tune with it. So live life simple and in tune with the nature.

Water Conservation
Remember to use only the amount you actually need. From a group of water-consciousness people and encourage your friends and neighbours to be part of this group. Promote water conservation in community newsletters and on bulletin boards. Encourage your friends , neighbours and co-workers to also contribute. Encourage your family to keep looking for new ways to conserve water in and around your home. Make sure your home is leak-free. Many homes have leaking pipes that go unnoticed. With the growing hazards of pollution, bio degradation and warnings of global warnings, turning eco friendly is not just the suggestion but the need of the moment. It has become very important to not waste any resource and especially if it is exhaustible in nature. So, with so many organizations and people urging us to become friendlier to environment, we students at omega launched the Go Green project with the help of science teachers and VBSE department . During VBSE classes, students made three coloured badges: Green for litter free classrooms, yellow needs to improve and Red for warning to STOP LITTERING. Every month a class takes responsibility to monitor cleanliness in the classrooms and on campus. Buses also get Litter Free Bus certificates. Our visit to Christ Faith Home

Some of the students of VI and VII std. went to Christ Faith Home, an orphanage in Manapakkam, for the Omega Giveaway Campaign. 30 boxes of clothes were donated, which were collected by staff and students. We gave a variety entertainment programme for those children. Some of the children were physically challenged. Our hearts are still with them but they are confident about their studies, life, their aims and dreams. To our surprise they entertained us with a dance performance which was amazing. We saw those babies who were abandoned by their parents. I really think that it was a golden opportunity our school gave us to know about the realities of life. Lets think for a minute how privileged we are to have lovely parents, family and good teachers. Let's be generous and fulfill our duty to the underprivileged people through our Omega Giveaway Campaign. Service to Humanity is Service to God Himself. Sakthivel VIB

UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCE As part of Omega Giveaway Campaign, we visited a local govt school in Kolapakkam. I was not actually excited to visit an unknown govt school and not interested in this type of visit. But, when I reached there my heart melted on those kids. They didnt have proper footwear, nor they were dressed smartly! I really felt pity on those kids and decided to do something for them, to make them happy. We took photos and gave them greeting cards and some clothes, sports items from our school. We had lot of fun playing Dodge ball, ring-a-ring-a-roses and Kho-Kho. Boys played cricket. We entertained them well and made them happy. We were indeed successful in our work and made them also feel a part of us.

I actually wanted the time to stop there, and never start. I didn't want to leave their company. I just felt proud that I am in Omega school and am doing this job. Govt. High School Even they felt the same and pleaded us not to go back. We made them feel good and told them that we will soon visit them. They were happy after hearing that. We then bid goodbye to them. I felt really happy and was bursting to tell my experience to my friends. We reached our school and never could forget that wonderful experience with those kids. YashaVIIIE It was the most happiest moment and the saddest was when we left. I thank my school that they took me there or else I wouldnt have understood many things. I helped a postman by giving him water when he was thirsty. Once I went to the shop to buy something, that time a foreigner came and asked for a blue and black gel pen but the shopkeeper couldnt understand. I helped the shopkeeper by translating it in Tamil. My visit to an old age home

I really had an awesome experience visiting an old age house and orphanage both were at same place. I usually dont visit this kind of places but for some special occasion like my Birthday, since I dont feel like celebrating my Birthday I visited. When I went there I saw many children playing and some were just coming from school and the old people had their own fun by playing in door games. I directly went inside the office, wrote my name and donated a full pack of rice of 10 kg along with my father. I was very excited to go inside and play with children there. As we went inside the head of the orphanage made me to introduce to all the children. I played a lot with them, I even bought toys and we played with them, we played games like musical chair, etc. After that I went to old age home where I played with old grandpas and grandmas, we played games like carom, chess, etc. While it was time to leave orphanage, they gave me a card which was made by all the people of there. Playing with our Euro

One day me and my friend were cycling and enjoying the Sunday evening. On the way I saw a small puppy. It was a cute one, it was I think some 2-3 months old. It looked as if it had been starving for weeks as its ribs were seen. When we went near it, it got afraid and ran away. We followed it and it was standing there looking at me closely. My friend took out the Bourbon biscuit and tore the packet and took out the biscuit and gave it to the puppy. It came near it sniffed it and ate it happily. It came near us and showed its innocent face by putting its ear down and looked in our face with the teary big eyes. My friend took all the biscuits and gave to the puppy. It wagged its tail happily and ate all the biscuits. We named it as Euro. We had a good time with it. We played with it, bottle chase. We taught him to do Hi-five. If we show our hand, it will raise its front legs and touch our palm which looked like a high-five. I saw that Euro was very happy playing with us as it wagged its tail, this made me happy too. Friends, I have, so far, met 15 million youth in a decade's time. I learnt, "every youth wants to be unique, that is, YOU! But the world all around you, is doing its best, day and night, to make you just "everybody else". In the home, dear young fellows you are asked by your parents to be like neighbours' children for scoring good marks. When you go to school, your teacher says "why not you become like the first five rankers in the class". Wherever you go, they are saying "you have to be somebody else or everybody else". Now, dear young friends, how many of you would like to be unique yourself. The challenge, my young friends, is that you have to fight the hardest battle, which any human being can ever imagine to fight; and never stop fighting until you arrive at your destined place, that is, a UNIQUE YOU!
