National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism College Park, MD Education Coordinator October 2012 - Present Oversee curricular programming of the fully online synchronous Graduate Certificate in Terrorism Analysis. Design yearly Career Development Programs through federal grants awarded by the Office of University Programs at the Department of Homeland Security which total over $200,000 in student aid annually. Assist in creating cutting-edge simulations and trainings on highlighted areas of interest within the Homeland Security field including terrorism analysis, emergency response, and cyber security. Coordinate efforts to create a Massive Open Online Course, Understanding the Terrorist Threat. TEACHING EXPERIENCE
National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism College Park, MD Teaching Assistant, BSST630: Motivations and Intents of Terrorists and Terrorist Group Spring 2013, Spring 2014 Course Description: Examines motivations for terrorism from an interdisciplinary perspective, with emphasis on a political and applied social psychological perspective. Topics include: defining terrorism; preconditions; recruitment; domestic and international terrorism; and case studies and analysis of terrorist organizations. Teaching Assistant, BSST633: Research Methods in Terrorism and Counterterrorism Winter 2012, Winter 2013 Course Description: Provides students with the opportunity to conduct original research, while exposing them to analytical tools relevant to the study of terrorism. Students will work with a range of data sources on domestic and international terrorism, and will be tasked with using data to test hypotheses related to the causes, behaviors, and/ or impacts of terrorism. Particular emphasis will be placed on using SPSS to analyze Global Terrorism Database data.

Teaching Assistant, BSST631: Societal Impacts of and Responses to Terrorism Summer 2013 Course Description: Addresses the manners in which a variety of different actors respond to both terrorist incidents and the threat of terrorism. The goal of the course will be to develop a multifaceted perspective on individual and community resilience in the face of terrorist threats. Teaching Assistant, BSST338Z/BSST638Z: Dollars to Designations: Terrorist Financing Summer 2013 Course Description: This course provides an introduction to terrorists financial activities and counterterrorism finance and sanctions policy. The course examines how terrorist groups finance their operations and also emphasizes current policy approaches designed to curb terrorist financing through the application of U.S. and international sanctions.

Teaching Assistant, BSST632: Development of Counterterrorism Policies & Programs Fall 2013 Course Description: Addresses the formulation, adoption, effectiveness, impacts, and afterlives of counterterrorism policies and programs.

PRESENTATIONS
DeVore, J. (2014, January). Massive Open Online Courses: An Example. Workshop conducted at the American Political Science Teaching and Learning Conference, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This first-of-its-kind TLC short course will combine an introductory session on Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) and a discussion of the benefits and challenges to developing a MOOC for civic education and political science topics for undergraduates and the general public. Among the questions that will be addressed is the role of faculty, departments, colleges and universities, and associations in the creation and sponsoring of MOOCs, and assessment of the impact of MOOCs on student and participant learning outcomes. The session will examine basic models of MOOCs and provide participants with an opportunity to discuss on the value of this pedagogical format for the discipline of political science. Anderson-Howell, R., Barnes, D., & DeVore, J. (2011, August). Clickers In Action: Assessing and Engaging Students through Clicker Technology. Workshop conducted at the University of Maryland Advising Conference, College Park, Maryland. This interactive presentation will discuss the Clicker technology implemented into the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences summer orientation program to increase student involvement. Through examples, hands -on involvement, and statistical results, we will discuss a case study of clicker use and the potentials this technology has for other programs campus wide. The presentation will focus on the impact this technology has had on specific student populations: new incoming freshmen and transfer students.
