NetWay Vision User Guide

General Description

General Description
In the past, each Powerwave repeater had to be individually monitored and additional products were required to manage Remote Electrical Tilt (RET) devices and Tower Mounted Amplifier (TMA) devices. NetWay Vision (NWV) was designed to manage all network-enabled Powerwave elements (network elements or managed elements), monitor alarms, store parameters, and update configurations. Since NWV is a multi-user system, several users with separate security profiles and privileges can interact with the network at the same time, allowing simple monitoring strategies and full-time availability of the system. Upcoming features, labeled as future functionality, may be included in this manual. These features are included to allow users to plan the additional features into work routines.

Nodes, Units, Network Elements, and Devices

Although they are often used interchangeably, Powerwave has specific definitions for Node, Unit, Device, Network Element, and Managed Element in the context of NWV. This distinction is important because the dimensioning of the NWV system is based on the number of nodes that require controlling. Nodes One Node can be any one of the following: One Master Control Unit (MCU) controlling one or several Remote Electrical Tilt (RET) antennas and the associated Tower Mounted Amplifiers (TMAs) One Control Unit (CU) in a cellular repeater system One Nexus RT Unit (including all slices) One WiMax Repeater Unit In a cellular repeater system, a CU may be packaged on a CU-board, a Band Selective Compact (BSC) board, or a Fiber Optic Node (FON) board. This means: A Base station Master Unit (BMU) or an Optical Conversion Module (OCM) contains the same number of nodes as the number of FON-Boards inside the BMU or OCM. In other words, an OCM with three FON boards contains three units. A stand-alone off-air repeater contains the same number of nodes as the number of frequency bands supported by the repeater, so a dual-band on-air repeater contains two nodes. A fiber optical repeater contains the same number of nodes as the number of frequency bands, plus one node for each FON. In other words, a dual-band fiber repeater contains three nodes. A fiber optical WRH always contains one node for each FON, if any, plus one node for the first two frequency bands and, possibly one additional node if a third, or third and fourth frequency bands are used. A standard fiber optical WRH (single or dual band) contains two nodes (one for the FON, and one for the frequency bands). Units/Devices In this manual the term unit and device are used interchangeably and are defined as any piece of equipment that can be connected to NWV. A unit can communicate with NWV either through SNMP traps like an MCU, or by direct communication like a repeater. A unit or device may contain one or more nodes. Network Element/Managed Element In this manual, a Network or Managed Element is defined as a unit connected to NWV for which monitoring and management can be turned on or off.

Features
After entering a user name and secure password, NetWay Vision displays a home page which gives the user an overall view of network status with several different summaries of system alarms. The six other areas available to users are: Network Viewer Fault Management Configuration Performance Process Management Administration

Network Viewer
The Network Viewer tab displays a visual representation of the placement of all managed network elements. There are multiple zoom levels starting from the regional network level down to the individual network elements that make up the network. A logical topology view representing the interdependencies and relationships among network elements is also included. From these levels views, events, alarms, and properties are available.

Fault Management
Fault Management includes six options that allow full access to the status information generated by the network elements. First is the Alarm Browser which lists the current active alarms for all managed devices in the network. Each alarm includes: a colored icon indicating the level of the alarm (Critical, Major, Minor, Warning, Clear, Indeterminate), the name of the device, the date that the alarm arrived, and a description of the alarm, if available. The user can acknowledge or clear the active alarms using this window, as well as export the lists as a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet, a Microsoft Word document, or an html file. The second is the Event Browser, which displays the list of events from all managed devices. As with the alarm browser, the user can clear the events listed in the browser. The list can also be exported to Excel, Word, or html. The third is the Alarm Simulator, that allows users to send an alarm into NWV to test notification options. The fourth, Alarm Disable, allows the user to prevent one or more specific alarms from being displayed in the alarm table. The fifth is Alarm Description, which allows the user to customize alarm messages within the NWV system. Sixth, Relay Criteria allows the user to set relay criteria to map site alarms from a FlexController to Dry Contact relay ports.

Configuration
The configuration tab contains the following options: Device Configuration Template Manager Software Download Job Scheduler Profile Manager Channel Configuration

The Device Configuration screen displays the current configuration information for all managed devices in the network. Users can edit the displayed information to reconfigure the devices. The Template Manager screen allows users to perform a mass update of devices. The Template Manager defines a configuration profile which may be stored and reused. Users can perform software downloads and switch between software banks on managed devices with the Software Download screen. Each managed device is listed on the screen, along with its current software version. The Backup/Restore screen is used to backup and restore device software as needed. Finally, the Job Scheduler allows users to schedule changes and revisions to the devices in the network. The Profile Manager handles bulk software updates for MCU equipment. Chapter 2 System Overview

Introduction
This chapter contains an overview of all the available tasks and screens within NWV, as well as setup procedures for configuring MCUs, RETs, Repeaters, Tower Mounted Amplifiers, and ISG Interface Boards, including parameter changes and software downloads.

Getting Started
Most of the system configuration for NWV is handled automatically by the program. The remaining items covered in this chapter must be configured following the initial installation and may be updated at a later time using the same procedures.

Home Page
To begin configuring NWV, log in to the web interface for the program by typing the hosts IP address, port number and the Powerwave directory name (for example, https://192.168.1.16:8443/Powerwave) as described in Chapter 2, NetWay Vision Startup. The login used to connect to NWV must have sufficient privileges to change the network configuration (See 044-05313, NetWay Vision Administration Guide for procedures for adding new users and setting authority levels.) After login, NWV displays the home page shown in Figure 2-1.

Figure 2-1 NWV Home Page

Networks

Networks
NWV automatically scans the IP address ranges entered into the system during installation to search for new and existing hardware in the network. Each network-enabled piece of Powerwave hardware replies with appropriate details, which are stored in the NWV database. As the details are returned to the system, the system builds a list of existing elements, as well as a description of the connections among the elements. Large networks (over 255 IP addresses) should either be broken down into groups of 255 addresses (for example 192.168.4.x) or the discovery function should be disabled to avoid a large stream of communication on the network. This discovery mechanism is turned off by default when a normal installation is performed. Discovery will only work for SNMP devices recognized by NetWay.

Network Elements
Any network-enabled piece of Powerwave hardware is considered a network element. The definitions of nodes, units, devices, and elements are listed in Chapter 1. Powerwave equipment types currently accessible by NWV are:

OCM Repeater MCU and RET TMA ISG NEP/Nexus FlexController Dry Contact Blade AISG Blade Gateway Modules Linknet Modules Base Station Management Interface module

Tree Structure
As responses are received from each network element, the connections for each element are noted so that an element tree can be created and displayed in NWV. Each device is shown under the custom group chosen during installation. The Device Tree in Figure 2-1 shows a typical tree structure. The numbers 10.131.24 in Figure 2-1 refers to a range of addresses where devices were found. The device tree expands one element at a time by clicking the small plus sign to the left of an element, or is completely expanded by clicking Expand All. The device tree is collapsed one element at a time by double-clicking on the element to be collapsed, or is completely collapsed by clicking Collapse All. Manually referesh the Device Tree to get the latest view of the attached devices.

Symbols
There are several symbols unique to the Network Viewer that help to describe details about repeater nodes, at a glance. For example, if the Figure 2-1 Device Tree repeater is using a Packet Switched connection, it will have a P in the center of the icon. A Circuit Switched repeater will not have a symbol in the center. In addition, SLW type repeaters are noted with an S in a green circle. See the next page for a detailed explanation of symbols.

Repeater Software Download is handed through the FTP server that was chosen during installation. If you installed the built-in FTP server, NWV will group the list of repeaters per software type, so that you can ensure that you choose the correct repeaters for the software you wish to download. You will only be able to choose one software type, but you will be able to select multiple repeaters, providing that they use the same software. If you entered a different, external FTP server, NWV will check the server specified, to locate the files. An Apply Template button is also available on the Software Download screen, which will allow you to apply a software download template to selected repeaters. 1. Select the radio button to the left of the bank into which you are loading software 2. NWV displays the current software version, and the status (Primary or Secondary) of the software currently loaded into the selected bank 3. Click the check box to the left of Switch Software if you wish to cause the repeater to run the software currently loaded or being loaded into the secondary bank (by switching the primary and secondary bank designation). This can be done during the load of new software (loading the software and then switching) or after loading new software (switching the software banks, only) 4. If you are loading new software, select the name from the Select Software list. This list is generated from the files stored in the %NWMHOME%\swimages directory 5. Select the check box to the left of Reboot if you wish to reboot the repeater after the software has been downloaded and switched. 6. Click Next to run the Download Software job, click Create Template to save the template, or Cancel to ignore the template and return to the main Software Download screen. 7. If you have chosen to swap the software and reboot the repeater after the software download is successful, you must go back to the beginning of the procedure, selecting only the Switch Software and Reboot check boxes. These operations can be done separately or together as required.

Template Manager
Click Template Manager from the menu tree. This function performs an update to multiple devices with one request. Templates are created by creating a new job from Software Download or Job Scheduler screens. (See Using Templates for details on creating a template). Template Name Device Type Created Date User

After a selection is made, an operator (=, <, <=, >, or >=) is chosen, and data is added to the empty box next to the operator. A second selection can be made to filter the results further. The list to the right of the first set of data contains the and and the or options allowing a wider variety of filters. The newly created filter can be saved (click Save), applied to the full list (click Apply Now), or canceled (click Cancel). Clicking View Filter displays the list of saved filters. If the user chooses Template Name, Device Type, or User from the list, the = operator must be used. A Created Date must be of the form dd mm yyyy, and can be used with all of the operators.

Using Templates
The user can configure a large number of network elements by using a template to capture the settings for a single device, and then sending those settings to a number of other elements. Examples of this include changes to repeater parameters, downloading new software to repeaters and changing alarm settings. You can schedule the delivery of the settings and can select multiple devices to be updated. Templates can be used to update two main types of information, the parameter configuration, and the software. The two types of templates are discussed separately.

Configuration Templates
There are three general types of configuration templates:
General Template - used to update general parameters on all repeaters. This template can

be used on multiple repeaters of multiple types in the same request

Radio Parameter Template - used to update radio parameters on a specific model of

repeater. This template can only be used on one model of repeater per request
IP Parameter Template - used to update the IP parameters. This kind of template can only be

used with IP repeaters, and therefore cannot be used on SLW repeaters.

Chapter 3 Network Viewer

Introduction
This chapter contains information on the use of the Network Viewer function of NWV.

General
The Network Viewer Main screen is reached by selecting the tab labeled Network Viewer at the top of the NWV screen, as shown in Figure 3-1.

Figure 3-1 Network Viewer Tab and Main Screen The Network Viewer offers a comprehensive display of the network with a visual representation of the relationships among the devices. The view also supports managed operations from the Configuration Management and Fault Management tabs, and several tasks from the Administration tab, so that it is not necessary to switch screens to perform most operations. To return to the main screen from any other screen in the Network view, select Back to Main either in the bottom-right corner or top-right of the screen. The Back button to the right of each Back to Main button has the same function as a browser back button.

Tree View
The tree view, located on the left side of the Network Viewer screen, contains a list of network devices in a hierarchical tree. Elements with a plus sign to the left of the element type or IP address are expanded when the plus sign is selected. To display an element in the Topographical view, double-click the name or IP address of the element in the tree. At the top of the tree view are two additional options; select Expand All to expand each of the top level elements and groups out to each individual device, and select Collapse All to collapse the tree down to its top level elements. Figure 3-2 shows an expanded tree view. Figure 3-2 Expanded Tree

Repeaters
When the element named Repeaters is expanded, a list of all of the repeater groups not included a custom group is displayed. Selecting the element or group expands the list under the chosen element or group, as well as updating the topology view.

MCUs and Other Elements

Elements which are found during the automatic discovery of system IP address are listed by the IP address group under which they were found. For example, Figure 3-2 shows a subnet (a subgroup of IP address, in this

case beginning with the numbers 10.32.2) which contains an MCU with an IP address of 10.32.2.7. The MCU itself is managing four sectors (1-1, 1-2, 2-1, and 2-2).

Topology View
The topology view uses icons for each type of network element and allows the user to follow element relationships down through each element group to individual devices. Figure 3-3 displays a typical view. The main Network Viewer screen displays the top level. In the view displayed in Figure 3-3 there is the default Repeater Group, Repeaters, the default top-level custom defined group, World, and three sets of MCU groups. Selecting any of the icons displays the items contained within (or connected to) the element or elements represented by the icon. To the left of the top Back to Main button, are Page View buttons that allow the user to access additional screens of elements or groups if more are available. The View per Page buttons are described in the General Symbols section of Chapter 2.

Figure 3-3 Topology View

Repeaters
In NWV, repeaters are displayed by repeater group. At the top level there is a special system group named Repeaters, shown in Figure 3-3. Selecting the Repeaters icon displays the system:AllDevices group. This group contains repeaters that were installed without a group, or repeaters that belong to a group which has been deleted. Custom groups can only be created under the World icon, as shown in Figure 3-4.

Figure 3-4 Repeater Subgroup View Each subgroup should be designed so that it contains all of the repeaters which are connected together through an R2R link. Each repeater icon displays the name given to the repeater when it was installed (See 044-05313, NetWay Vision Administration Guide). The arrow to the left of the icon indicates the alarm state of this element. In this case, a green arrow shows that there is no alarm and the unit is working correctly. Alarm states are updated immediately upon receipt of an alarm into NWV. Other indicators are covered in Chapter 4, Fault Management. Clicking on the arrow to the right of a repeater name displays a submenu listing all of the available actions for that repeater. An example is displayed in Figure 3-5.

Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) Repeaters

MIMO is implemented by combining two Nexus FT 700 or 2100 repeaters. The two repeaters are mechanically housed in the dual band repeater configuration. A special version of firmware is loaded that provides NetWay functionality. For MIMO functionality the overall UL and DL paths of the two modules track each other within 2 dB to provide spatial diversity benefits.

Wildcards
The search function supports the asterisk (*) wildcard, which substitutes for one or more letters in the search term. Multiple wild card characters may be used in a single search, so both m* - which searches for all entries beginning with the letter m - and *m* which searches for all entries containing an m in the middle of the name - are both valid entries. The wildcard may cause multiple hits during the search, so NWV automatically ranks the search results and displays them in a dialog box. Chapter 4 Fault Management

Introduction
This chapter contains instructions and procedures for accessing and using the Fault Management section of NWV. The Fault Management section of NWV consists of six areas: the Alarm Browser, the Event Browser, the Alarm Simulator, Alarm Disable, Alarm Description, and Relay Criteria. The two browsers (alarm and event) give the user access to all of the alarm data sent by the managed elements, as well as a list of the actions performed on the managed elements from NWV. The Alarm Simulator allows users to test the display and notification systems by introducing a simulated alarm into the NWV system. Alarm Disable allows users to prevent any specific alarm from displaying in the Alarm Browser.

Alarm Browser
The alarm browser provides an interface you can use to view and acknowledge current alarms (which leaves them in the alarm list) and archive older alarms. Figure 4-1 shows the Alarm Browser.

Figure 4-1 Alarm Browser To display the Alarm Browser screen, click the Fault Management tab at the top of the NWV screen, then click Alarm Browser on the left side of the screen. In the center of the screen, NWV displays a list of all of the current alarms including both Acknowledged and Unacknowledged alarms. The display can be sorted in both ascending and descending order by each of the columns. Click a column name to sort the table by the data in that column in descending order. Click the yellow arrow to re-sort the data in ascending order. To return to this view from any other view, or after applying any filters, select the Show All link at the top of the screen. Two automatic filters are included in the system. One filter allows the user to view a list of all acknowledged alarms. Select the View: Acknowledged link to remove unacknowledged and cleared alarms from the alarm list display. The other filter allows the user to view a list of unacknowledged alarms. Select the View: Unacknowledged link to display only unacknowledged alarms. An advanced filter is also available by selecting the Add Filter link. Figure 4-2 displays the add filter screen.

Chapter 6 Process Management

Introduction
This chapter contains instructions and procedures for accessing and using the Process Management section of NWV. The Process Management section of NWV consists of the Job Browser, Process Monitor and Poller Profiles activities. The job browser contains a list of active jobs, including details such as the name, status, run date, and type of job. It also lists the user who created each of the jobs. Jobs stay active until they are deleted from the list. The job history display in the Job Browser lists the completed jobs including a failure reason for jobs that do not execute completely. The Process Monitor displays the status of the NWV processes running on the NWV server, and the Poller Profiles allow the user to configure NWV to automatically poll equipment for alarm, connectivity, and configuration data.

Job Browser
To display the Job Browser screen, select the Process Management tab from the top of the NWV screen. Then select Job Browser on the left side of the screen, as shown in Figure 6-1.
