    Taxpayers in the City of Mount Vernon are still fuming over the reckless 7.77% tax increase proposed by Mayor Ernie Davis and upheld by the three blind mind on the Mount Vernon City Council; Councilpersons Yuhanna Edwards, Marcus Griffith, and City Council President Roberta Apuzzo. Questions loom as to whether this tax increase was even necessary or if this budget is the product of political gamesmanship. The three blind mice on the City Council gave reasons uncomprehendable to the human mind as to why we needed a tax increase. It is even more scary that Councilpersons Deborah Reynolds and Richard Thomas publicly denounced the budget and said it would put an even further stain on already cash strapped taxpayers. Councilman Thomas told residents at a budget public hearing that he has found solutions to cut nearly $4M in spending without any reduction in services to the residents of the City of Mount Vernon. Councilman Thomas’ proposal fell on deaf ears and residents are stuck with paying for Mayor Davis’ proposal. Mount Vernon Exposed previously disclosed that Comptroller Maureen Walker has been silent on the issue of skyrocketing property taxes and only chooses to rock the boat when the odds are politically in her favor. Taxpayers are catching on to Comptroller Walkers shenanigans and are realizing that the Comptroller is all about herself and her political aspirations. Comptroller Walker, the self proclaimed financial watchdog has been doing a mediocre job watching over the city coffers. In fact, Comptroller Walker has been so busy planning for the next election, that she has failed to collect crucial revenue, a job she was elected to perform by the taxpayers of Mount Vernon. Because of Comptroller Walkers’ failure to move Mount Vernon in the 21st Century, property values in Mount Vernon are at an all time low. More on Comtroller’s neglect of her elected duties next issue. All of this tomfoolery by our elected officials has made Mount Vernon a very undesirable place to live. The property taxes are the highest in the country. In Mount Vernon, there is taxation without representation. Today, we will explain the simple theory of economics and how can lose your pants in Mount Vernon if you are not careful. Buying a house at this day and age in the City of Mount Vernon is the equivalent of emptying out your retirement account and going to Vegas for the weekend to bet it all on blackjack. After all why would anyone invest in the City of Mount Vernon? There is no movie theatre, fine dining, hotels, bowling alley, or an arcade. Believe it or not, there are laws on the books in Mount Vernon that prohibit video arcades. There are close to 500 churches in the City of Mount Vernon, but yet Mount Vernon has one of the highest murder rates in New York State. The streets are filthy. You are lucky if you make it one block without having one of your tires fall off due to the crater-sized potholes that seem to be growing by the hour. And let’s not forget, the failure factories (schools) that prepare our youth for the Valhalla Prison Preparatory School. The failure factories are also the single largest employer in the City of Mount Vernon. Imagine that! If you purchase a home in the City of Mount Vernon, you will be subject to double taxation. Let us explain. Many homeowners send their children to private schools opting not to send their children to one of the failure factories that their tax dollars pay for. On average a good private school can run about $1,000 per month. Tack that figure on to a $21,000 a year tax bill for a property valued at about $500K. You are essentially paying $32,000 per year in property taxes. Let us explain even further.
