So, what comes to mind when the hot
summer weather begins loose its grip and
the first crisp, cool front moves through
the area? Football? No, it’s not football. I
am like hordes of other who anxiously
await the beginning of another season on
the gridiron. While many of us never quit
thinking and talking football, the answer
I’m looking for here is. . .auctions.
The sweltering heat is over. For those who
have children, you have once again sur-
vived pre-school shopping for cloth-
ing and supplies. Vacation is a fond
memory and the relentless lawn mainte-
nance is starting to slow down.
Since the game doesn’t begin until the af-
ternoon and we all know the showcase
game isn’t until the early evening hours,
why not get out and enjoy an auction.
There is a lot of planning that goes into at-
tending an auction and it can be loads of
fun. For some it starts the day before.
Since most weekend auctions begin
around 9 or 10 a.m. you need to get out of
the house in a timely manner. Allow
enough time to stop for breakfast at your
favorite eatery. If you are attending an
auction in another town, you may want to
drive a while and stop at one of those in-
teresting dining spots along the way.
Sit back and enjoy the drive. If you have
planned your time wisely, take the back
roads. Driving the state highways allow
you a chance to relax and enjoy your

home state and some of the most beautiful
scenery you can find anywhere.
Take it from someone who knows, every
highway is a new experience. Every town
you pass through is unique. You are going
to see things and go places that you may
have never given a thought to during the
rigors of a normal week. I’ll bet you’ll

shops that you will want to spend time to
enjoy on the way back.
