About Young Indians

Young Indians (Yi) is an integral part of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Indias premier business association, formed in the year 2002, with an objective of creating a platform for young Indians to realise the dream of a developed nation. Yi has over 1300 direct members in 24 city chapters. Yi has 160 members in 3 corporate chapters and engages another 12,000 members through its district chapter, Farmer Nets and Student Nets. The Yi membership includes young progressive Indians between the age group of 25 & 40 years. The members comprise of entrepreneurs, professionals and progressive achievers from different walks of life. To become the voice of young Indians globally being the vision of Yi, it provides a platform for young Indians to participate in and contribute by becoming an integral part of the Indian growth story. Yi works effectively for promoting leadership skills for the development of its members through the learning programs; the development and engagement of students in schools and colleges through its 85 Student Net platforms which engage more than 5100 students from various educational institutions across India; and two Farmers Net platform that has enrolled more than 8500 young & progressive farmers from all across the country, providing them with real time agricultural inputs and know-how. Yi has successfully conducted campaigns and developed successful projects across the focus areas of primary education, environment, primary healthcare and employability, contributing positively to its surrounding eco system and the nation. Through its initiatives like Akshara, Yi has impacted more than 15000 students across 57 centers and has successfully managed campaigns like the Blackboard Project, providing blackboards to schools across different cities, reaching out to 1016 schools nationally and impacting approximately 2,53,000 children. Yi has been instrumental in skilling & placing 1300 youth under the aegis of its Yi LABS Employability program. Under the Healthcare initiative, over 175000 children have been dewormed in addition to many health awareness programs across the community in different cities. Within the sphere of Environment, Yi conducts a Green I contest, campaigns for tree plantation, solid waste management projects, involving citizens and school children in the process. Yi is also in the process of planting one million saplings across the country through its One Million Tree Project. Yi also celebrates the National Day of importance like world Health Day , World Environment Day , Heritage Week, National Youth Day etc. Yi organises an annual national summit with themes relevant to India and its youth. The national summits include sessions and interactions with some of the nest and eminent personalities from various elds, across India and the world. Seven Editions of the Yi National Summit have been organised to date. Yi works in partnership with various organisations. These include the Government, Companies, Civil Society Organizations. On the international arena, Yi engages with the BMW Foundation to promote the Indo German Young Leaders Forum for young thought leaders. Yi has carried international missions to UK, China, Singapore, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Israel & Turkey. Yi is the founding member of the G20 Young Entrepreneur Alliance. Yi is also the ofcial representative from India for the G20 Young Entrepreneur Summit (held annually on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum). Yi also works with the Aspen India Institute to conduct leadership development programs. Yi has also worked with the Planning Commission of India in conducting consultation workshops across its chapters for accumulating a youth perspective to be included in the 12th Five Year Plan. With eight years of glorious past and decades ahead that promise nothing short, Yi intends to become a larger movement and promote the positive attitude of We Can, We Will.

He is a Mechanical Engineering Graduate from PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore and additionally holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration (Strategy and Manufacturing Management) from RIT, Rochester, NY. SPM is part of the USD 500 Million KG Group which has its core business activities in the textile industry and Private Equity investments in Mining, Infrastructure and Real Estate Development. Arjun Prakash has completed his Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering from PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore in 1998. He later completed his Masters degree in Industrial Automation from University of Applied Sciences in Esslingen in 2001. After having worked with Festo AG and IMT Robot AG in Germany, he started his own company in Industrial Automation in his home town Coimbatore, India. He is currently the Director of Efca Automation Limited. Efca Automation Limited is a system integrator and solution provider for automatic handling and packing of engineering goods, food and beverages. Efca is also currently developing a line of products for the same requirements. Arjun has been a member of Young Indians since 2005, and has served as the Learning Chair as well as the Chapter Chair of the Coimbatore Chapter. Currently, she is the National Chair for Events and National Co- Chair of Next Practices in Young Indians and a member of the CII National Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Council. She is also a moderator at ASPEN India and was one of the Thought Leaders at the CII ASPEN Ideas India 2008 and 2009.
