Criteria on an ideal teacher

Good morning. Im Sarah bt Sofian Bordie and I will talk about Criteria of an ideal teacher. A teacher is someone who goes about teaching his or her chosen subjects to a given set of classes.

Im sure we all have our favourite teacher when we were in school. The one that we like and respect from our heart. The one that we waited to enter the class. The one that we miss when we left school. The one that we look up to and the one that we defined as an ideal teacher and how we wish all the other teachers should be.

What makes this teacher an ideal teacher? Though the criteria vary from an individual to an individual, to me an ideal teacher is someone who loves doing what he or she does, someone who motivates, someone who cares and someone who is knowledgeable.

Firstly, an ideal teacher is someone who loves doing what he or she does. This kind of teacher is not doing it for the money or glory but he or she teaches because it brings satisfaction knowing that he or she is contributing to the future of others and helps moulding characters. In addition, a teacher who falls in this category is ready to be sent anywhere or be given any class because he or she knows that his or her responsibilities are to teach and bring out the best of each students regardless of who the students are. If a teacher doesnt love what he or she is doing, then he or she will never be able to make a lasting impression in the pupils minds.

Next, an ideal teacher is the one who can be a motivator to his or her pupils. As we all know, our pupils come from different walks of life, with different personalities and level of intelligence. Thus, as an ideal teacher, one should know how to motivate each pupil. An ideal teacher never lets the limitations of the pupils restrict their vision. A teacher should inspire and gives support to the pupils and helps them to realize their talents. As a motivator, a teacher should never let the students doubt themselves.

The third criterion of an ideal teacher is caring. A caring teacher will always be remembered by the students, no matter how long the students have left the school. This kind of teacher is the one that is truly interested in the success of the students both in and out of the classroom. He or she is not only interested in the students academic achievement but also pays attention to the students behavior. This kind of teacher is able to identify if the students are having difficulties. This criterion is vital especially to the students who dont receive love and care at home. Knowing there is someone at school who cares about you is a good enough motivation for a child to attend school and finish school.

Finally the last criteria needed to be an ideal teacher is knowledgeable. It is true that in order for a person to become a teacher, he or she needs to attend selected courses for a duration of time before he or she is offered the post of a teacher. But this doesnt guarantee that the teacher is a knowledgeable person. A good teachers knowledge goes beyond knowing a particular subject by heart. A good teacher has to anticipate the kind of questions the students might ask. In any circumstances a teacher should refrain from saying I dont know as an answer. If this happens, students lose faith in their teachers and will start comparing the teacher with the others. In addition, being knowledgeable here means a teacher needs to be alert with the current issues. Students by nature are very curious and they will need someone to answer their questions. So an ideal teacher needs to be knowledgeable by equipping him or herself with the latest issues.

A definition on an ideal teacher varies from one person to another as the saying beauty is in the eye of the beholder. However, this doesnt mean that we teachers should focus too much on what the students think of us. If we are sincere with what we do and if we always have the students best interest in our heart, then we too can be someones ideal teacher. Thank you.
