FS X Recommended Settings The models and textures in FS X are quite good. But if your graphics card is not set up correctly, you will never see the textures properly.

If you are running Nvidia graphics hardware, select 4xAF and LOD to clamp. If you are running ATI X series graphics hardware under WIN XP run the Catalyst control center by clicking the red box in your Quick Access Tray at screen bottom right. The most important setting is the Anisotropic Filtering. Deselect use application settings and move the slider the 4x position. You can also try checking the High Quality box, but this may reduce frame rate on some systems. Next move up one selection in the Graphics Settings box and select the Adaptive Anti-aliasing. Ensure the box at the bottom of the interface is checked, and the slider is on the Quality side. We recommend full realism to get the best out of your flight experience. If you are still learning the systems in FS X we recommend that you fly with FLYING TIPS ON. Use F10 to pull up the kneeboard for NAV and mission details. We also recommend scenery settings at DENSE. This package includes modifications for seven airports but not all the scenery will appear at less than DENSE settings.

Mission Selection and Random Elements Missions are specially designed adventures that you can fly. Missions include many voices and ATC instruction, new scenery, and often failures. There are five missions in this package and they are designed to be flown in order. These represent a variety of scenarios and mission goals, weather, time of day and flight plans. Missions 3,4 and 5 include additional random elements to enhance replay. If you are shot down in one of these missions refly to complete the mission. If you prefer to fly without mission goal marker and use GPS only you may do so, but in some cases you may miss important triggers. Its best to use at least the mission goal

marker. Use the U key to turn off the green arrow goal marker if you wish to use the mission goal marker alone.

To select a mission click on the CATEGORY box and scroll to PBY Catalina Adventures title. PBY Model Limitations and Mission Notes A limitation of the Midway PBY model is that the torpedo will remain on the wing even after you release it. The best place to hit the CV is center to forward. However, any hit may be deadly. The magazine is more or less near the center and you have a chance of sinking the ship with one shot if you hit the center. The Comox2 mission labeled "CAF Firefighter" is identical to the mission in the Catalina box except that you fly the CAF "Rescue" paint scheme courtesy of Henry William. Headsets and Screenshots Under WINXP FS X offers you the possibility of routing engine and environment sounds through one set of speakers, and voice through another. I use a USB headset for voice, and my surround sound system for aircraft sounds. This works very well and is easily configured from the Sounds and Audio Devices tab in Control Panel. If you route voices directly to your headset you will likely have to adjust voice volume in the SOUND tab. FS X allows you to save screenshots into a flight album for instant access after the mission. Hit the V key to take a picture in flight.

Special control keys are as follows: SHF P Request Pushback (repeat to STOP. Also works on water) SHF P then 1 (pushback turn left) SHP P then 2 (pushback turn right) SHF F Request fuel truck SHF D Release droppable object SHF E doors open/close CTL SHF X Flying Tips V Take an in flight picture for your record book
