DIAGNOSIS Mild Anxiety related to upcoming surgery as evidenced by expressed concerns

RATIONALE Preoperational anxiety is a universal reaction experienced by patients who are admitted to the hospital for surgery. Just the initial idea of having surgical procedures can bring about f anxiety in patients. Preoperational anxiety can be described as an unpleasant state of tension or uneasiness that results from a patient's doubts or before an operation.

OBJECTIVES After 4-5 hours of nursing intervention before the settled operation, the patient will be able to: 1. Appear relaxed. 2. Verbalize readiness for the upcoming surgery.

INTERVENTIONS 1. Assess level of fear. Note signs of denial, depression or narrowed focus of attention. 2. Explain procedures and care as delivered. Repeat explanations frequently as needed.
