The instrument used 7as a test on /nglish simple past tense for <unior 0igh school le4el. The population of the study 7as the ninth year students of SMP Negeri 3 Pare! 7hich consisted of three classes. 0o7e4er! samples 7ere used as the researcher could not cope 7ith the 7hole population. The samples consisted of =" students. Students errors identified in this study 7ere categories into three types! namely! errors of omission errors addition and errors misformation. The result of the analysis sho7s that there 7ere in all! 923 errors among =" students. The types of errors among the students in constructing and using /nglish simple past tense consisted of C# 8=D: errors of omission! E= 8#D: errors of addition and 9"$9 8#$D: errors of misformation. 1rom the highest to the lo7est! the errors 7ere* misformation! addition! and omission. The result of farther analysis sho7s that the students seemingly ha4e problems in each category omission! addition and misformation. Thus! the students 7ere often found to ma)e errors in using those patterns high.
