Introduction
General information on the programme

The study #ro,ramme here #ro#osed has its ori,in in the current educational study of mathematics that has 7een held continuously for more than a decade at this faculty- For many years, to,ether 6ith the #enetration of mathematics into more and more 7ranches of economy and science, 6e ha(e 7een 6itnesses to a ,reat interest of re,ional hi,h school #o#ulation, as 6ell as our o6n students, for initiation of a scientific study of mathematics- A si,nificant num7er of students comin, from the 7road re,ion ,ra(itatin, to S#lit, e(ery year enroll on such a study at the De#artment of "athematics, Uni(ersity of 8a,re7- 9esides to 7ein, teachers of mathematics in elementary and secondary schools, mathematicians today find :o7 in 7an3s, insurance com#anies, com#uter centers, centers of communication technolo, ies de(elo#ment, they are needed at the ma:ority of faculties, etc- On em#loyment a,ency lists there are no unem#loyed mathematicians and the e1#erience throu, hout the 6orld sho6s that this is not only tem#orarily so, 7ut the need for mathematicians 6ill increase in the future;e #ro#ose the ne6 t6o<cycled study structure accordin, to contem#orary #erce#tions of teachin, mathematics and to meet the needs of e(er de(elo#in, domain of a##lications of mathematics;e e1#ect the first cycle de,ree to 7rin, a 6ide choice of careers a(aila7le to students 6ho ,raduate 7ecause of their intellectual a7ility, ri,our and esta7lished numeracy- At this study le(el student is in(ol(ed in draftin, of #ro,ramme contents to minor e1tent throu,h choosin, one of three o#tional modules accordin, to his5her li3in, and #ossi7le intention of continuin, study*n the EU a lar,e (ariety of mathematics #ro,rammes currently e1ist- The efforts re,ardin, their harmoni=ation are coordinated 7y The "athematics Tunin, rou# 6ithin the EU #ilot<#ro:ect >Tunin, Educational Structures in Euro#e?- *n this #ro#osal, all the 7asic #rinci#les and instructions a,reed and recommended 7y >The rou#? @in the so far issued documentsA ha(e 7een included- 9ro6sin, throu,h the 6e7 sites of Euro#ean uni(ersities one can see that the study #ro,ramme most similar to our #ro#osal can 7e found in countries :ust recently :oined to EU, for instance in +=ech Re#u7lic and in Slo(a3ia @htt#)55666-mff-cuni-c= or htt#)55666-fm#h-uni7a-s3A- Uni(ersities in ;estern Euro#e still mostly hold four<year ,raduate maths studies in t6o eBually lastin, cycles- Sometimes their #ro,rammes are denoted as >tem#orary until 7ein, harmoni=ed?-
