Not suitable for combustible gases.
The V3350A-D/V3351A,C/V3450A-D/V3451A,C 2-Way

Flanged Iron Body Valves are used in heating or cooling
systems for two-position or modulating control of steam,
water, or glycol solutions to 50 percent. These valves
require a Q5001 Linkage and control motor, an ML6421A/B,
ML6425A/B, ML7421A/B, or ML7425A/B Direct-Coupled
Actuator, or an MP953 Pneumatic Actuator to position the
valve. The valve bodies are available in both direct acting
(DAstem up to open) and reverse acting (RAstem down
to open). All 2-1/2 and 3 inch valves include a bonnet adapter
for compatibility with all applicable electric and pneumatic
actuators.

Read these instructions carefully. Failure to follow them

could damage the product or cause a hazardous
condition.
Check the ratings given in the instructions and on the
product to make sure the product is suitable for your
application.
Installer must be a trained, experienced service
technician.
After installation is complete, check out product
operation as provided in these instructions.
IMPORTANT
1. Do not lift the valve by holding the stem.
2. Before installing the valve, raise and lower the valve
stem to make sure that the valve stem operates
freely. Impaired stem operation can indicate that the
stem was bent by rough handling. This condition can
require replacing the valve.
3. Protect the stem from damage due to bending or
scratching.
4. Do not mount the valve with the stem pointed lower
than horizontal.
5. Mount the valve with the flow arrow pointed in the
direction of flow through the valve.
6. Mount the valve between aligned pipes. Mounting
the valve on pipes that are not aligned causes
leakage at the valve-to-pipe connection.
7. Release system pressure and drain the valve pipe
section so the medium (water or glycol solution) does
not leak out of the valve body during installation.
8. Be sure to allow enough room for installation and
service. Clearance for valve installation is dependent
on actuator size and the valve pipe size.
Location
IMPORTANT
Valve sizing is important for correct system
operation. Undersized valves do not have sufficient
capacity at maximum load. Oversized valves can
initiate cycling and the seat and throttling plug can be
damaged because of the restricted opening. Some
variables that must be determined are:
Medium (steam, water, glycol solution 50 percent
maximum) to be controlled.
Maximum temperature and pressure of the medium at the
valve.
Pressure differential that exists across the valve under
maximum load conditions.
Maximum capacity the valve must deliver.
Maximum line pressure differential the valve actuator
must close against.
Table 8 provides allowable close-off pressures for
valves with pneumatic actuators. Table 9 provides
allowable close-off pressures for valves with electric
actuators.
Select a location where the valve and actuator are accessible.

Allow sufficient space for servicing the valve and actuator.
See Fig. 3 for valve body dimensions. See Fig. 5 through 9 for
dimensions and installation clearances for the actuator.
Mounting Valve
See Fig. 4 for typical installation:
1. Install the valve so the flow follows the direction of the
arrow indicated on the valve body identification tag.
2. Install the valve so the actuator is above the valve body.
Install the valve in any position between vertical and
horizontal. Do not install the valve with the stem below
horizontal or upside down.
3. Use companion flanges with the same number of bolt
holes and dimensions as the valve to be installed.
4. Use a gasket material recommended for the medium to
be handled.
5. Use mounting bolts long enough so the nuts can use
the full length of the nut threads. Use bolts 1/8-in.
smaller than bolt hole diameter to allow clearance for
installing. See Fig. 3.

Mounting Actuator
GASKET
For information on mounting, refer to the actuators Product

Data Sheet. Fig. 6 through 9 illustrate typical actuators used
with this valve. Actuator dimensions as well as installation
clearances are provided. It is important to have the correct
actuator available for the installation.

FLANGE
Checkout
Instructions for operating the valve actuator, see the specific
actuators Product Data Sheet. Operate the control system
and check valve operation to determine that the valve stem
positions the valve smoothly through full stroke without
binding.
BE SURE FACE OF COMPANION FLANGE IS FLUSH
WITH FACE OF VALVE-BODY FLANGE AND ALIGNED
SQUARELY BEFORE TIGHTENING MOUNTING NUTS.
The actuator selected provides the force to position the valve

stem and plug. For electric spring-return and pneumatic
actuators, the actuator provides normally closed or normally
open operation on electric power or pneumatic pressure
failure, depending on the valve/actuator combination selected.

General
Valve Body Service Kits:
Fig. 10 shows a direct acting valve in the fully open or fully

flowing position and the reverse acting valve in the fully closed
or zero flow position. The actuator provides the necessary
force to position and hold the stem and plug in the correct
position, depending on the control requirements.
NOTE: Service kits include copper ring, spring, bearing,

stem, plug, packing, and gasket for both 125 and
250 psi class valves. Fig. 11 and 12 and Table 9
illustrate the parts included in the service kits.
For electric control, a spring return actuator returns the valve

to its normal position (open or closed, depending on the
actuator and valve selected) in the event of a power failure.
Non-spring return actuators hold the last commanded
position.
