IP44 lighting.....as youve never known it before

Hector Finch has invented a unique solution to revolutionise bathroom & outdoor lighting. The Osh Lamp can be fitted into a wide range of conventional light fittings for use in Zones 2 & 3 in a bathroom or for outdoor areas that require IP 44. The Osh Lamp is an enclosed lampholder capsule and can be fitted into wall lights, lanterns, pendants & chandeliers giving you greater flexibility in your recommendation of lighting solutions for bath-rooms, kitchen & exterior. With the capability of securing standard shades there is no need for adaptation of existing shades. The Osh uses a halogen lamp and therefore also provides a 30% energy saving on conventional incandescent lamps. The Osh is supplied as a candle or dome, clear or frosted and we will select the most appropriate version for your chosen light fitting.

IP Ratings explained
IP rating stands for Ingress Protection and is followed by two numbers. It is important to understand the rating by which bathroom lights are classified. It is essential that you choose fittings with the correct rating for the zone they are to be situated within the bathroom.

Zones Zone 0 is the interior of the bath or shower itself. Any fitting used in this zone must be low voltage (max 12v), and be rated at least IP67, which is total immersion proof. Zone 1 is the area directly above the bath (Zone 1) to a height of 2.25m from the floor. In this zone a minimum rating of IP44 is required; however it is recommended that a minimum of IP65 is used. If the fitting is 240v a 30ma residual current device (RCD) must also be used to protect the circuit in this zone. Zone 2 is an area beyond zones 0 and 1, stretching 0.6m outside the perimeter of the bath and to a height of 2.25m from the floor. In this zone an IP rating of at least IP44 is required. In addition it is recommended the area around a wash basin, within a 60cm radius of any tap to be considered as zone 2.

Zone 3 is anywhere outside zones 0, 1 and 2 (subject to specific limits) and where no water jet is likely to be used. An IP rating of IP20+ is required. In addition to the above, if there is a likelihood of water jets being used for cleaning purpose in zones 1,2 and 3 a fitting rated a minimum IP65 must be used.
