INTRODUCTION This preview analyzes a journal about a language behavior and language beliefs in language maintenance.

In analyzing this journal, I did some general process such as surveying articles or journals to get one of those that meet the criteria in the applied linguistics context, doing references research about some paradigms used in social research especially to get about the paradigm against those which are used in the selected journal How much does parental behavior reflect their language beliefs in language maintenance by Shanjiang Yu. The use of a good methodology and techni ue are some of many important things to be considered in doing a research. In Yu!s research, anticipating attitude about the inaccuracy of the data collection is paid so much attention by the researcher. "s any other research there are always some points of view to be discussed about strengths and wea#nesses of a research. In this paper, I would li#e to draw few negative argumentations on the data collection, sampling techni ue and the significance of this research. DISCUSSION Research question $ove from the analysis of the research uestion proposed, it can be seen that the writer has as#ed and described important point focused on the research that is the maintenance of $andarin. %rom the conclusion, however, we can only understand the significance of this research implicitly that the success of teaching is much depended on the sense of intimacy and closeness between teacher and student. &e cannot gain much information about the significance of this study for the importance of language education, unless the writer gives a clear explanation on it. Sampling %rom the explanation on the researcher choose the sample of this research it can be conclude that this research is used the snowballing sampling because Yu chose the sample by using a social' networ# approach and by spreading the information among friends. &hile the researcher decided some specific criteria in selecting the sample for this research, this sampling techni ue, however, is the wea#nesses of this research theoretically. (rei#en et al )*+++, p. ,+,-, argues that snowballing sample cannot be regarding as a representative and even can be regarded a fault.

Data Collection The approach used in this research seems a collaboration of ualitative and uantitative approach. It can be seen from the use of both instrument which are adapted by the researcher in this research is popular in these two approaches, open uestionnaire and recording are the popular way in ualitative research and uestionnaire is popular in uantitative. )(rei#en et al, *+++To get the research uestion, the researcher do uestionnaire and interview to the parents of the object of this research. The parents were interviewed to get a clear description about how they use the language with their children. The time management about when the uestionnaires have to be done was set very clearly in this research so that other researchers can consider every time and political issue influencing the research data. The parents were interviewed separately to minimize the parent to intervene each other in giving the answer. .ata gathered from the uestionnaire then compare to the recording. The collaboration between both the recording and the uestionnaire was really good since the researcher is able to see the over and under estimation which may be answered by the parents in the uestionnaire, so that the deviation of the data can be avoided by analyzing this comparison. The uestions about the validity of the recording, however, then emerge since the recordings were set by the parents of the research object. The recording setting should be done by the researcher without any awareness of the research object so that there was less chance to manipulating the situation to show the positive behavior and the data would not be bias. This #ind of recording process in one hand is not suitable to a research ethics. (rei#en )*+++, p. /01- argues that the objects of a research should #now what ever happen to them in a gathering data process when a research is held. 2ut, it can be anticipate earlier when the researcher as#ed for their agreement to follow all the instruction give in the process of the research. The researcher could tell them that the recording process will be done without any announcement in an uncertain time and as# for their permission for this #ind of situation. In the next step, some matters relating to the confidential of the content, which may ma#e them embarrassed, can be discussed later. So, it can be said that the recording doing by the parent can give more natural setting is uestionable. The use of the theories used in this research had been used properly especially to explain the bac#ground of this research. The gathered data was presented clearly by using the table containing of a simple statistical figure. This figure was accompanied by a clear explanation about what the figure showed can help people understand about the information found in this research report.

CONCLUSSION 3enerally, a research is done to give contribution to solve the problem face by or society. %or that reason a researcher must consider the procedures closely when a research will be conducted, so that the result of this research would not give a bias or an invalid explanation for the people who try to gain useful information from a research report. " research should consider not only about the interesting topic to choose but also about the destructive information possibly brought together in a research report )$acTaggart, 40,0-. The researcher must describe clearly about what the objective and the significance of the research in order to provide them useful information especially for education principle as one of the centers of the society development. "s it is explained before, the result of this research support the previous research result report by 5dward report in *+++. This research still remain an unanswered uestion whether the desire is reality where minority language must ends up with language shift for the reasons of the mar#et value of majority language.
