LEARNING DERIVED

A case study is a requirement which all nursing students must complete in order to gain the appropriate knowledge, skills, and attitude in the field of nursing. It allows the students to delve into the synthesis and meaning of the disease, the signs and symptoms, as well as the corresponding nursing care management for the case. A bookbased case study is no different, and in actuality, students are given the opportunity to learn beyond what clients may feel and into the different dimensions of the disease. In short, the case is not limited to merely the treatments of the patient to his or her signs and symptoms. On the course of the case study, I was able to perform assessment and observation, gathered relevant data and observed cues from the patient and his family. Critical thinking and analysis with corresponding management were applied to interpret the results from the study. I have discovered and learned a lot of things about the Nursing field and about life.

As members of the healthcare profession, we need to be equipped with theoretical understanding of different concepts in the field of nursing and this was taught to us in college. We were trained to be ideal. We were constantly reminded that standards are given for a certain reason, and that is because it is proven to be the most efficient way of delivering care to our client. Now, as a practicing nurse, we learn how to put these theories together with our ideas and vision to our practice.

This case study served as a reminder for me, as a nurse, that, although we have the understanding and idea of the disease condition of the patient, we cannot render our utmost effective and therapeutic nursing care unless we start knowing the patient herself which brings us back to the basic and the very first step of the nursing process, assessment.

Health teachings are very important, these could serve as primary defense to illnesses, it could make people responsible for their own health, and this could make them aware of their surroundings. So as nurses, we should practice giving health teachings to patients for them to be independent and in charge with their health.

This case study proved to show that this isnt just a study that is required for me to pass, but a written study that I would like to serve as a constant reminder for us nurses to be mindful of our care to our patients as this study has given me the meaning why assessing, communicating and interacting is so important and that words can be put to action, and actions can make a change. Our primary task is to empower our patients and the family, provide assistance, and understanding his health condition. We are tasked to deliberately do all in our power to provide our patient comfort and the best treatment that our clients deserve.
