CYCLE SAFE (CYCLE SAFTEY MOBILE APPLICATION) INTRODUCTION Cyclist safety is an ongoing issue that hasnt had any solutions or resolutions to address the problem. Both cyclists and motorists are at fault for the increase casualty rates in the past few months. Motorists failing to give way and room for cyclists, and cyclists that arent aware of dangerous roads and getting caught in congested roads. However, cyclists are only getting themselves in the way of traffic, riding in busy congested roads because theyre unaware of safe routes and unsure of what the road condition is like. To address this problem, the solution of a mobile application has been envisioned. The application lets the cyclists know safe riding routes and congested areas to avoid. This ensures the cyclist has a better knowledge of what the conditions are before embarking out on a journey.

3. BUSINESS SECTION 3.1 Vision Our goal is to efficiently develop high-quality innovation in order to set us apart from the competition 3.2 Industry Analysis: Mobile App Industry Industry: Mobile app industry. Mobile app developed on platforms such as Apple, Anroid and Windows

Force:

High/Low:

Justification: The choices buyers have to purchase apps on the app store is high. In most cases buyers have many different competitors to choose from when purchasing something specific. The Apple store and Android app store has around 800,000 apps.

Buyer power:

High

("At4ad digest :," )

Supplier power:

Low

The supplier power for application development is high. Estimated worldwide app users of 1.2 billion in 2012 and a predicted growth of 4.4 billion in 2017.
2

The high demand for apps mean the demand for good developers is high creating a competitive market of suppliers. ("Global mobile statistics," )

Threat of new entrants:

High

Threat of new entrants is high with significant app growth. Nowadays you dont need to be a expert at programming to enter into the market. If you have an idea and vision there are app developer tools which allow you to create and enter the app market.
("Mobile Use Grows," Mobile Use Grows 115% in 2013, Propelled by Messaging Apps)

Threat of substitutes:

Low

There isnt much substitutes to mobile apps. Mobile apps are convenient and can process many

information. Something a book cannot do

Rivalry

among

existing High

There is high competition in the app market. With the app stores having over 800,000 different apps and the vast amount of different options to choose from. High rivalry amongst existing competitors exists. ("At4ad digest :," )

competitors:

Overall attractiveness of the industry: The overall attractiveness of the mobile app industry is high. This is because of how large the mobile app industry is expanding with various alternatives to choose from when downloading apps the competition and threat of new entrants remains high. 3.3 Customers and Their Needs The target group of customers is cyclists. This app is designed for cyclist awareness and safety so the main group is cyclists that make frequent commutes on the road. Their needs are, a user friendly app that can create safer cycling experiences by providing users with safe routes and also the awareness of any congested roads. As identified in the article. Safer cycling is needed and is the most cost effective solution.

3.4 The Product and Service The application addresses the needs from the cyclists that are wanting better cycle safety. This is done by the user inputting the desired cycle route and a route is created using the map functionalities. The app will be clearly laid out for the user to use providing a user friendly interface and also the ability to view traffic feeds to avoid being in the way of congestion and cars during peak hour. Cyclists needs are also addressed in the way that cyclists will have a peace of mind before embarking out, knowing that the route is one created that avoids high crash areas and areas of difficulty.

3.5 Suppliers and Partners The mains supplier for this product is Google Maps. Google Maps is a key supplier as for the most part the app will be using map integration in order to plan routes and view traffic feeds. Another supplier is the developers. The developers are important as a good developer can lead to a welldeveloped app. The main partners for the app is Bike Wise and can (cycling advocates network). These two NZ organizations advocate cycling safety and the improvement of safety for cyclists. Bike Wise is more about promoting cycling as an alternative transport by encouraging people to cycle with various events and Can is a national network of cycling advocates that work among governments and councils to improve cycling.
("Cycling Advocates' Network," Cycling Advocates' Network) ("Bike Wise is," Bike Wise is New Zealands national programme)

3.6 Strategy: Broad Differentiation Broad Market Cycle Safe app is available for all New Zealanders that cycle Low Cost With partnerships with cycle safety advocates to promote safe cycling. Cycle Safe focuses on ensuring that all cyclists have access to the app. Therefore the price is likely to be low The overall strategy is therefore Differentiation

3.7 Value Chain Activity: Technology Development (and R&D) The most important value chain activity for this business is Technology development (and R&D) This is the most important value chain activity as the business requires up to date technology and software. The app relies on the Google Map integration so developing new technologies to improve services and speed is at high priority and to improve the quality of the integration. The value chain also links with the business vision to efficiently develop high-quality innovation. Developing new technology designs to stay ahead of competitors.

3.8 Business Processes

3.8.2. PROTOTYPE TESTING PROCESS This is an important process as Cycle Safe is dealing with a mobile application which constantly needs updating for bug fixes and updates. To meet demands, prototype testing is important to ensure the app is tested thoroughly as is at a high quality standard before being released out onto the market. The process starts off with the initial prototype. From there the prototype is fixed for any bugs. Once the prototype meets specifications it moves onto the initial testing of the app to ensure everything is working properly
