This chapter presents the research method used, the description of respondent, research instrument, and data gathering

procedure. Research Method Used The descriptive research method is used to determine and analyze the problems encountered by student teachers. According to Manuel and Mendel (1998 , it involves the description, recording, analysis and interpretation of the present nature, composition of processes of phenomena. The term descriptive research refers to the type of research !uestion, design, and data analysis that "ill be applied to a given topic. #escriptive statistics tell "hat is, "hile inferential statistics try to determine cause and effect. The type of !uestion as$ed by the researcher "ill ultimately determine the type of approach necessary to complete an accurate assessment of the topic at hand. The main goal of this type of research is to describe the data and characteristics about "hat is being studied. The idea behind this type of research is to study fre!uency, averages, and other statistical calculations. Sampling Scheme %onvenience sampling "as used in this study& this type of sampling is used in e'ploratory research "here the researcher is interested in getting an ine'pensive appro'imation of the truth. As the name implies, the sample is selected because they are convenient. This non probability method is often used during preliminary research efforts to get a gross estimate of the results, "ithout incurring the cost or time re!uired to select a random sample. (n this study, the respondents are the student teachers "ho are readily available to ans"er the survey !uestionnaire. Research Instrument The researcher ) made instrument "as utilized to determine the problems encountered by the third year of *T+,%-#. (t contained t"o main t"o parts. /art ( "as used to elicit the respondent0 profile such as name, se', gender, and age and /art (( contains the five categories of problems namely. 1esson /lanning, (nstructional Materials, art of 2uestioning, %ooperating Teacher, and 3tudents. Description of the Respondent A total of 444 of student of %-# in all ma5ors "ere the respondent of the study. They are described according to their demographic profile such as se' (male and female , and ma5or (%omputer -ducation, 3ocial 3tudies, 6ilipino, Math, -nglish and /hysical 3cience .

Validation of Instrument %onsultation "ith the e'pert "as sought. Their comments and suggestions further helped the researcher in polishing the !uestionnaire. 7efore the distribution of the instruments, the !uestionnaire "as chec$ed by e'perts for revision and administering it to student of %-# "ho "ere not part of the respondents. Data Gathering Procedure The first step used "as to as$ permission from the #ean to conduct the survey. The !uestionnaire "as distributed to the respondents after securing the permit. %opies of the approved !uestionnaire "ere distributed in order to gather the relevant data. The instruments "ere retrieved after they "ere finished ans"ering.
