Philip Asante

Aerospace Engineering Student at Carleton University

Ottawa, ON - Email me on Indeed: indeed.com/r/Philip-Asante/28b6d3ada3fdd495 A technically well-grounded engineering student with design skills thus far obtained through various courses of study, work projects and volunteer positions with favorable prospects as a competent, productive and creative individual within the Aerospace community. I take a particular interest in the fields of aircraft aerodynamic performance, flight stability, control and simulation with a drive towards the marketing and development of Unmanned Aerial Systems.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Flight Aerodynamic Stability & Control Simulation Modeler; Aerodynamics Team Liason
Geosurv II Unmanned Aerial System (Carleton University Final Year Project, Canada, Since August 2011 - September 2011 to Present Currently responsible for the review, debugging and development of an existing non-linear dynamic Simulink based flight model of the Geosurv II UAS aircraft prototype. Responsible for the implementation of the dynamic flight model into STK for mission planning/simulation and FlightGear for 3D dynamic visualization and pilot training. Provide support to avionics group in integrating the prototypes autopilot system hardware-in-the-loop testbed into the dynamic flight model to test system response to various flight conditions. Team liaison responsible for attending project integration meetings, providing status updates and maintaining a 7-member Aerodynamics team schedule.

Project Manager
The Blackbird UAV (Competition by Unmanned Vehicle Systems, Canada) - Juli 2011 to Present Responsible for the preparation of design modification requirements. Prepare project budgets, funding proposals and sponsorship requests. Responsible for application for Special Flight Operations Certificate. Coordinate & chair project meetings with team leads to keep track of project progress. Responsible for aircraft flight stability and control.

Founder & CAD Developer

Chamillion Design Solutions - Juni 2010 to Present A professional student-run design company offering imaginative, relevant product design solutions and their visualization. Some of the services we offer include: -3D Rendered Modelling -Mechanism Verification and Animation -Scaled Prototype Development -Working and Assembly Drawings

University Level Project - Entry For National Unmanned Systems Competition

Blackbird UAV (Unmanned Vehicle Systems, Canada) - Januari 2010 to Present - Created initial concept designs and performed initial sizing calculations. - Developed 3D models of finalized structural design and engineering drawings of aircraft

components. - Developed performance index relationship functions and charts to aid in material selection. - Developed CNC code and machining instructions for the components of the aircraft structure and vacuum forming fuselage molds, coordinating with workshop-technician staff in their fabrication. - Co-designed portable ground control station. - Performed detailed study and analysis of the aircraft's stability and responses to control and implemented obtained results into a dynamic simulation for assessment and training. - Produced training simulations and scenarios used to tweak craft dynamic performance, autopilot response, servo gains and stability. - Produced regular updates in the form of reports and presentations for project managers.

Project Engineer
University Level Project - Competition Entry for American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics - September 2008 to Juli 2009 - Involved in developing an autorotation descent retardation device for an autonomous descent module. - Designed the control and propulsion system for the descent module to allow it to land within a desired accuracy at given GPS coordinates. - Developed evaluation criteria and performed performance matching for propulsion system. - Developed 3D CAD models of the control and propulsion system. - Developed, simulated and tested the control system algorithm with the use of MATLAB.

Project Intern
Sultan Qaboos University - Mei 2008 to September 2008 -Assisted in the evaluation of Solid Tubular Expansion for Oil extraction purposes. -Produced working and assembly drawings of parts to be used in test rig. -Modelled different material behaviour in MATLAB to aid in optimum material selection. -Produced reports based on the analysis obtained from computerized models requiring clear writing and good communication skills. -Met frequently with supervisor to discuss results obtained from models that usually required an oral presentation of findings.

Junior Technician
Sultan Qaboos University Language Center - Juni 2006 to September 2007 - Assisted in responding to hardware and software problems reported. - Maintained computer lab complaint folders. - Performed hardware maintenance and software upgrades. - Resolved network issues in the departments computer labs. - Met with supervisor on a daily basis to report all problems discovered.
