Objectives

To prepare the students to effectively link theory with practice and application and to demonstrate background of the theoretical aspects. To prepare the students to generate and analyze data using experiments and to apply elements of data analysis. To prepare the students to have hands on experiments and to have exposure to equipment and machines. To prepare the students to solve problems including design elements and related to their course work.

What to DO in the Lab?


In order to perform the experiment within the assigned period, and to gain the maximum benefit from the experiment, the students must familiarize themselves with the purpose, objective, and procedure of the experiment before coming to the laboratory. Relevant lecture notes and laboratory manual should be studied carefully and thoroughly. Level of attentiveness Active participation and involvement is must during experiment

What NOT to DO in the Lab?


Do not wear loose dresses Always use close shoes Do not play with valves, screws and nuts Do not try to run and operate any machine without permission and knowledge of the lab personnel

Experiment 1

Fabrication of Reinforcement Cage for RC and PC Beams

Objective

To fabricate reinforcement cage for reinforced and prestressed (Post Tensioned) concrete beam for studying their behaviour under load.

Equipment

Rod/Wire cutting devices, dies and vies for bending, tape and scale, hammer

Material

6 mm dia MS rods, 10 mm dia HYSD bar of grade Fe415, wire, etc.

Procedure

Prepare a Bar Bending Schedule (BBS) as per design in the format given in the Table Cut required no. of pieces as per dimensions in BBS Bend the bars in the shape as in BBS Tie the bars with binding wires as per design Affix identification slip
