About Ben Lippen


Ben Lippen School is a Pre-K to 12th grade Christian school of more than 700 students offering challenging academics, a wide variety of co-curricular activities, and the spiritual and social training required to graduate Christian scholars. It is also a college and calling preparatory school that trains students for Gods call on their life in college and beyond. Founded in 1940, and originally located in Asheville, N.C., Ben Lippen is a Scottish phrase meaning Mountain of Trust. Ben Lippens high school (grades 9-12) has 330 students, including 81 boarding students from around the world and a senior class of 91. Small class sizes allow for a student/teacher ratio of 16:1. Ben Lippens high school faculty includes 25 fulltime and 3 part-time employees, 46 percent of whom hold or are pursuing advanced degrees. on to postsecondary education. Because of smaller class sizes, a report of each students rank would not be the best predictor of future academic success. Student rank is reported only on final transcripts for state scholarship consideration. The actual ranking of underclassmen is not included on the schools transcripts and reported to admissions offices only when specifically requested by colleges and universities.

Requirements for Graduation


Students may earn a diploma by successfully completing a minimum of 22 credits plus a Bible course for each year they are enrolled at Ben Lippen.* Students completing four years of study at the school will graduate with at least 26 credits. Any student transferring to Ben Lippen after the sophomore year must earn 26 credits, but only need Bible credits while attending Ben Lippen. This includes work with churches, as well as civic and private organizations in the Columbia area and around the world. Seniors are also required to successfully complete a senior paper.

Accreditation/Affiliations
Ben Lippen has been accredited by the AdvancED (formerly Southern Association of Colleges and Schools - SACS) since 1980 and by the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) since 1996 and is affiliated with the South Carolina Independent School Association (SCISA).

Admission
Admission to Ben Lippen School is competitive and is based upon a students previous academic performance, pastoral and teacher recommendations, personal attributes, an admissions interview, and an entrance exam.

Grade Point Average (GPA)


A students cumulative grade point average is displayed on his or her transcript. This average is computed using the South Carolina Uniform Grading Policy (UGP). The CUM/UGP grade point average includes grades given in academic and elective courses at Ben Lippen, as well as transfer credits from other accredited schools. The transcript also lists the grade averages without weighting under AVG. Honors courses are weighted 0.5 and are indicated by an H. Advanced Placement courses are weighted 1.0 and are indicated by an AP/DC.
