1.3-4
The quadrilateral element has the field:
= 1 + 2 . + 3 . + 4 . .
We know that each edge is determinate by a linear expression, as shown below:
Edge 4-1:
=0
Edge 1-2:
=0
Edge 2-3:
= 1
Edge 3-4:
= 2
Then, we may deduce by adding the information about the edges on the general equation:
Edge 4-1:
= 1 + (2 + 3 ). + 4 . 2
Edge 1-2:
= 1 + 2 .
Edge 2-3:
= (1 + 2 . 1 ) + (3 + 4 . 1 ).
Edge 3-4:
= (1 + 3 . 2 ) + (2 + 4 . 2 ).
Then, the element probably will be compatible with other neighboring elements, due to the fact that
all functions relating the edges are linear, excepting the edge 4-1 that is a quadratic function. However,
this edge will be attached on a similar edge (with a quadratic function) and the edges that have linear
functions will be attached on equal edges.

1.4-1
It is considered that the left support restricts only vertical movement, while the right support restricts
movement in both horizontal and vertical directions, beyond the rotation over the support node.
The beam's material is considered homogeneous and isotropic with an elastic behavior.
