Abstract A Technical textile is a textile product manufactured for non-aesthetic purposes, where function is the primary criterion. The production of technical textiles is a rapidly developing trade in textile industry. It is a large and growing sector and supports a vast array of other industries. New end-uses are developed daily and in most cases technical textile structures are used to replace expensive, heavier or technically inferior constructions traditionally produced from other materials. To achieve the objective of a favorable performance/cost ratio, the structures and production methods must be carefully designed. Over all, global growth rates of technical textiles are about 4% per year greater than the growth of home and apparel textiles, which are growing at a rate of 1% per year. In present market opportunities and in free quota system the importance of technical textile materials is increasing to accommodate the needs of requirement. Nowadays the most widely technical textile materials are used in filter clothing, furniture, hygiene medicals and construction material. The future scope of technical textiles is 12 different categories of products 150 different product groups 19 different fibre types 8 different yarn types 4 different coating types

Technical textiles include textiles for automotive applications, medical textiles (e.g., implants), geotextiles (reinforcement of embankments), agro textiles (textiles for crop protection), and protective clothing (e.g., heat and radiation protection for fire fighter clothing, molten metal protection for welders, stab protection and bulletproof vests, and spacesuits). The consumption wise forecast of technical textiles Agrotech 8%, Clothtech 7%, Sporttech 6%, Geotech 2%, Medtech 10%, Packtech 16%, Indutech 14%, Buildtech 11%, and Hometech 12% The new concept of fabric engineering was conceived during the evolution of technical textiles as a natural development of the trial and error methods. The commercially available fabrics failed in many cases to satisfy the specifications set by the producer and the designers and textile engineers were called upon to create entirely new structures. The properties in this case have to be built-in or applied to specific areas of the fabric at the correct orientation so as to withstand expected forces while maintaining economical production cost.
