Jinbukai Canada Summer Camp 2013 Camp Samac (Oshawa, ON)

Introduction After many years of summer camps at the Hart House Farm, due to special circumstances, we will have summer camp at the Kitchie Lodge at Camp Samac (Oshawa, ON) this year. The document provides some important information. Please familiarize yourselves with the contents to ensure smooth operation at the camp. See you at Camp Samac!

General Rules & Policies Camp Samac is owned and operated by Scouts Canada. Since it will be our first visit to this site (and we may wish to return for future camps), please be extra vigilant about our conducts/behaviours and carefully observe the camps rules & policies. Camp Samac operates numerous cabins and facilities which are near-fully booked during the summer. Therefore, while we are the only group occupying Kitchie Lodge, please keep in mind and be sensible that we are sharing the camp ground with other groups.

The Facility (camp ground in general and Kitchie Lodge): Camp Samac buildings are SMOKE-FREE and the camp property is ALCOHOL-FREE and PET-FREE. Zerotolerance will be enforced. We will not have access to the building until 7:00pm, Friday, August 2. A club representative will pick up the key from the Camp Warden. Check-in and check-out inspections will be conducted by the Camp Warden. We are expected to leave the building as clean and neat as it was upon arrival. EVERYONE should help cleanup the building at the end of summer camp and EVERYONE is expected to stay until the building inspection is deemed satisfactory by the Camp Warden. There are shower facilities in Kitchie Lodge. One in the womens washroom and one in mens washroom. Please be sensible about water usage and refrain from taking extended long showers. Kitchie Lodge has bunk beds with mattresses. However, you will need to bring your own beddings (e.g. pillows, sleeping bags, blankets.)

Kitchen Ventilation Fan & Smoke Alarms: Ventilation fan is located on the wall beside the stoves. It must be TURNED ON during cooking. If for some reason the buildings smoke alarm is tripped, everyone must evacuate the building and assemble near the front entrance of the building. Camp organizer(s) will do a head count and contact the ranger on duty at 905-429-9229.

Tenting Outside of Kitchie Lodge: If you wish to pitch tents outside of Kitchie Lodge, there is a charge of $2/tent (subject to change). Please inform Club Executive at least 2 weeks prior to summer camp as we must register with the Camp Administrator in advance.

Lake Samac and the Swimming Pool: Swimming in Lake Samac is not advisable and should be considered prohibited during our stay. There is an outdoor swimming pool on site, which is operated by the City of Oshawa. We can use it

during the scheduled public swim times and would be subject to admission fees. You may find out more information regarding the pool schedule and admission fee on City of Oshawas website.
*** Waste Management & Conservation of Resources *** Unlike at Hart House Farm, Camp Samac will only accept and dispose 4 to 5 bags of garbage for us over the long weekend. All remaining garbage, trash, recycling items are to be taken off site by us when we leave. Therefore, please carefully observe the following waste management practices: Minimize the amount of garbage, especially food wastes. Keep good recycling practices. E.g. sorting/separating paper, plastics, jars and cans. Rinse jars/cans/container whenever possible prior to disposal to minimize bad odour from developing. Compact all materials prior to disposal. General garbage should be placed in the BLACK garbage bags. Recyclable items should be stacked neatly and/or placed in the CLEAR large plastic bags.

Things You Can Help with. The training area will also serve as the dining area. If everyone helps with setting up and cleaning up, we can make sure the meals and workouts start and finish on time. Keep the training area clean from outside dirt/debris. Bring sandals/slippers for indoors and leave the outdoor shoes by the entrance area.
