Throughout the course of Chinese history, there are many different dynasties and emperors.

However, there was only four novels that had the honor to be titled as the Four Great Classical Novels, Dream of the Red Chamber is regarded as the one of the great novels that took on a cultural and artistic breakthrough in Chinese literature. Being able to read with commentaries, I was assigned with as my commentator to get a better sense on how Chinese people were reading Dream of the Red Chamber. But one structure that seems to be unchanging is the traditional Chinese standard of beauty and the structure of Confucianism. After being able to study Dream of the Red Chamber for a whole semester, it is a masterful novel where the themes of the novel is a blend of romance, sexual desires, family struggles, as well as reflection of Chinese standard of beauty. The whole novel shows different interpretations on how beauty is valued. Traditional Chinese standard of beauty are heavily influenced by both Taoist and Confucians principles on the inner beauty and outer beauty of a woman. The inner beauty and outer beauty After being able to finish reading Dream of the Red Chamber for the semester, my assigned commentator , show a different approach in the commentary in the later chapters. As I mentioned before, put heavy emphasis on the small details in the family quarrels of the Jia family and the over obsession on Bao Yus nature for lustful wishes.
