ADDITIONAL NOTES We use A or AN with singular nouns. A is used when a noun starts with a consonant sound; e.g. A dog, a book, etc. AN is used when a noun starts with a vowel sound; e.g. An apple, an hour, etc. We use SOME with countable nouns (only with their plural) and with uncountable nouns. SOME is used in positive sentences; questions, expressing requests and offers; e.g. I have got some time. Would you like some tea? Can I have some biscuits?

We use ANY with countable nouns (only with their plural) and with uncountable nouns. ANY is used in negative sentences; general questions; e.g. I havent got any time. Have you got any sisters? Is there any tea left? We use "some" in positive sentences. We use some for both countable and uncountable nouns. Example: I have some friends. We use "any" in negative sentences or questions. We use any for both countable and uncountable nouns. Example: Do you have any cheese? He doesn't have any friends in Chicago. We use "some" in questions when offering or requesting something that is there. Example: Would you like some bread? (offer) - Could I have some water? (request)

SOMEBODY, We use "some" words - somebody, someone, somewhere and SOMEWHERE, something - in positive sentences. Example: He lives somewhere near SOMETHING here. ANYBODY, ANYWHERE, ANYTHING We use "any" words - anybody, anyone, anywhere and anything - in negative sentences or questions. Example: Do you know anything about that boy? - She doesn't have anywhere to go
