ELECTRONICHE: "Protons give an atom its identity, electrons its personality.

" They have been around for only a few decades but there is no earthly realm that has escaped the pertinence of Electronic Circuits. From wrist watches to supersonic jets, television sets to high efficiency Power plants; they have helped mankind graduate from macro to micro and from slow to uber-fast. If the very mention of electronics makes you tick and the Circuits Laboratory is what you call your second home, then this is a perfect opportunity to stir up your creative brilliance and master the art of electronics. All teams will be tested on their knowledge, problem solving skills and their expertise in circuit design.

RULES
Teams of two participants from any recognised college are allowed. Participants may or may not belong to the same institution. The event consists of two rounds: the preliminary round and the final round. In the prelims all teams must solve a questionnaire testing their knowledge in Electronics- both analog and digital, in a given time. All qualifying teams will then compete in the final round to realise a given circuit using components provided in the given time frame. Judges will decide winning team keeping in mind various factors such as time taken, circuit performance, presentation, circuit complexity etc. The decision of the judges will be final and binding.

Round 1
Round 1 will consist of MCQ and/or subjective questions on both analog and digital electronics. No calculators will be allowed during this round. Examples of some questions: 1. Master-slave JK flip-flops are edge triggered flip flops. True or False. Explain. 2. Which of the following phase comparators in a PLL is the most preferred: a) Type 1 b) Type 3 c) Type 2 d) All of them are used

Round 2
Only 5 teams from the first round will make it to the second round. A problem statement will be given. The students will have to design the circuit. Some components will be provided along with a breadboard. The students will have to make a circuit using those components. Greater points will be awarded to that team that uses the least number of components. The following things will be taken into account for deciding the winner: 1. The total value of the components used. For example, the cost of an IC motor driver will be higher than a transistor. Total value= 2. The robustness of the circuit assembled. 3. Time taken to complete the circuit. 4. Most importantly, whether the circuit works as per the problem statement.
