3.1NEED OF THE STUDY


Although there are number of institution that are engaged in the micro financing, yet the growth of micro financing is still at slow pace in Punjab. There are number of people who are not able to access the micro financing facility. Study aims at the evaluation of the bank support of central cooperative banks for the growth of micro financing and to determine the perspective of SHGs towards this.

3.2 OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY


1. To Study the role of cooperative bank support for micro financing to SHGs. 2. To study the perspective of SHGs about cooperative bank support. 3. To study the normal practices of SHGs in selected area.

3.3 SCOPE OF THE STUDY


1. The study is restricted to only 3 District Central Cooperative Banks of Punjab state namely Tarn Taran, Amritsar and Patiala . 2. The study is restricted to the some villages of 3 districts.

3.4 RESEARCH DESIGN


Descriptive Research Design was used for conducting the study, because the study includes the detailed analysis of Central Cooperative Banks support to micro financing.

3.5 DATA COLLECTION


Keeping in mind the nature of requirements of the study, both Primary and Secondary data has been collected for the conduct of the study. 2 set of questionnaires are being prepared, one for the banks and the other for the SHGs for assessing the cooperative bank support for micro financing. In addition, information was also collected through discussions and interviews with bank authorities. A wide range of information such as composition of membership, savings mobilized, loan disbursed, interest rates, recovery procedures, external assistance received etc were ascertained from the SHGs.

Secondary data was collected from the records of District Central Cooperative Banks, books, journals, magazines and internet.

3.6 SAMPLE DESIGN AND SIZE


Judgmental and Convenience sampling method was used to collect the information. Some specific villages were selected for the purpose of the study wherein the concentration of SHGs was very high, 60 SHGs with 730 members were randomly selected from selected villages due to shortage of time, apathy of group members, defunct SHGs and distance constraints.

3.7 SAMPLING FRAME OF THE STUDY


The sample size was restricted to 60 respondents from 3 districts. Details are provided as follows: District Tarn Taran Amritsar Patiala total SHGs 20 20 20 60 SHGs members 220 264 246 730
