METHODOLOGY Modified Banana Trunk Fibers (Mobant-Fiber) Preparation The extraction for lignocellulosic fiber from the banana

plant which scientifically known as Musa Paradisiaca (Haris & Sathasivam, 2010). 1. Chop the pseudo-stem of the banana tree into cubes and clean them by using water to remove dirt. 2. Boil the pieces of the banana trunk fibers for an hour to soften them and to kill microorganism. 3. Left them to cool down then blend them to obtain fibres by using a blender. 4. Sieve the blended banana trunk fibres to drain and separate the fibre from excess water and unwanted particles. 5. Weigh accurately the sieved fiber. For every gram fiber, 0.2g of stearic acid and 0.2g calcium carbonate will be used (5:1:1 ratio). 6. Add the calcium carbonate and stearic acid into the sieved banana trunk fibers to obtain softer fibres for 5-15 minutes. 7. Transfer the content into a beaker and stir thoroughly. 8. Heat the banana trunk fibers using a hot plate to make it fully concentrated paste and then leave it to dry.

9. Mobant-Fiber is then stored for usage. Maximum Absorptivity Test Based On 1. Weigh accurately about 50g of the Mobant-Fibre using an analytical balance. 2. Prepare and labeled test sample as follow: i. Control 50ml distilled water ii. Cooking Oil 10ml Cooking Oil and 40mL distilled water iii. Petrol 10ml Ron95 Petrol and 40mL distilled water iv. Used Car oil 10mL used car oil and 40mL distilled water 3. Lower the Mobant-Fiber slowly until it is completely submerged into the Cooking Oil and start the stopwatch. 4. Let the sample submerged for 10 second and then lift it. Let the water drained and then weigh the Mobant-Fiber by using analytical balance. Record data. 5. By using the same Mobant-Fiber, slowly immerse the fiber until it is completely submerge into the cooking oil for another 10 second. Let the water drained and then weigh the MobantFiber by using analytical balance. Record data. 6. Repeat step 5 until the weight of the Mobant-Fiber obtained is constant. Record the time taken and the final constant weight of Mobant-Fiber. 7. By using a new Mobant-Fiber repeat step 3 until 6 by using Petrol and Used Car Oil sample.
