Introduction
This document gives ou an overview of the controls provided b Axis Media Control /AMC0. AMC is an ActiveX component that enables live video to be viewed in a *eb browser. Administrator or Dperator rights are re)uired to install and use AMC.

In addition to supporting streaming video! AMC provides additional camera controls. The controls provided b AMC will var according to the features of the Axis camera and include controls for M(%<=5! M(%<=7! audio! motion detection! and (an#Tilt#@oom.

Installing AMC

2. Start the *eb browser and enter the I( address or host name for the camera or video server ou want to access. 5. A dialog bar at the top of the browser will sa that this website wants to install AMC. Clic& this bar to bring up a menu that as&s if ou want to Install ActiveX Control. Select Install ActiveX Control to continue.

2. If ou need to remove AMC from our computer! clic& Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs to remove the program. 5. Select AXIS Media Control Embedded. 4o not delete the AXIS Media Control program since ot0er A<is /roducts may use it.

Installing an AAC Decoder


If ou want to hear or transmit audio from our Axis camera over our networ& or over the Internet! and our hardware supports AAC audio! ou will need to install an AAC decoder. 2. To start the installation! select the Click ere to install or u!grade t e AAC "ecoder lin& in the Eive .iew page as shown in the figure below.

Installing an MPEG-4 Decoder


Dn the live view page of our Axis camera! ou can select to view live video over our networ& or over the Internet! using either Motion C(%< or M(%<=7. If ou select M(%<=7! ou will be prompted to install an M(%<=7 decoder.

2. To start the installation! select the Click ere to install or u!grade t e MPE*+, "ecoder lin& in the Eive .iew page as shown in the figure below.

Installing #indo$s Media *or!at unti!e


*indows Media +ormat -untime /*M+-0 is used to create a high=definition *indows Media .ideo files. This is the file format AMC uses to store recorded video. +or more information see the -ecording Tab. If *M+- is not alread installed on our computer when ou install AMC! ou will be prompted to install it.

Note: W&<3 is in-l$ded in Windows X S 2 and Windows !ista, and will a$tomati-ally /e installed w)en yo$ download and install X S 2.

Fou can wait to install *M+-! but ou cannot record video using AMC until it is installed. See the -ecording Tab.

+ool,ar Controls
The AMC toolbar! visible below the video image in the Eive .iew page of an Axis camera or video server! will have general controls for pla ing or stopping the media stream. The Eive .iew page ma also have other controls depending on the Axis product and how it has been configured in the Setup page. This section gives a description of all the AMC controls.

General Controls
There are AMC controls that are common to all cameras. The Pla- button connects to the Axis product and starts pla ing a media stream. The Sto! button stops the stream being pla ed and terminates all networ& traffic with the Axis product. The Sna!s ot button ta&es a snapshot of the current image. The location where the image file is saved can be specified using the AMC Control (anel. Clic& the .ie/ (ull Screen button and the video image will fill the entire screen area. Bo other windows will be visible. (ress Esc /%scape0 on the computer &e board to cancel full screen view. The record button is used to record the current video stream. The location where the image file is saved can be specified using the AMC Control (anel.

Audio Controls
There are some AMC controls that are specificall for audio! but are onl visible if audio is enabled in the *eb Setup page for our Axis Camera. These controls change the settings for the spea&er and microphone connected to the camera or video server that is being configured. Clic& the S!eaker 0utton to switch the sound off and on to our computer1s spea&er. If ou have set our camera to half duplex mode and the half duplex #isten button appears in the live view page of our Axis camera! ou are onl able to receive audio from the built=in or external camera microphone. To be able to send audio! clic& this button. See note below. If ou have set our camera to half duplex mode and the half duplex 1alk button appears in the live view page of our Axis camera! ou are onl able to send audio to the spea&ers connected to our Axis camera. To be able to receive audio! clic& this button. Clic& the Micro! one button to switch the sound off and on to our computer1s microphone. In Simplex = spea&er onl mode! ou can clic& this button to stop sending audio to the camera. See note below.

Center Mode
The default setting for (T@ is the Center Mode. *hen in Center Mode! clic& on an part of the image other than its exact center and the camera will move so that the point ou clic&ed on becomes the new center of the image.

E!ulated /o0stic1 Mode


If ou select %mulate Co stic& Mode! the camera moves in the direction of the mouse pointer. If ou clic& and hold down on the left mouse button! and then point our cursor at the lower left hand corner of the image! the camera continues to move left and down until ou release the mouse button.

Area .oo!
Area @oom allows ou to Goom in on a specific area of the video stream. (ut the cursor where ou want the center of the area ou want to Goom in on! and then drag the cursor out as far as the siGe of the area ou want to Goom in on. Bote that AMC is dependent on the camera1s Goom calibration.

AMC Control Panel


The AMC Control (anel is used to configure AMC. The figure below! <eneral Tab! shows the different parts of AMC that can be configured such as audio and (T@! for example. The sections below describe each of these AMC tabs and how to configure AMC. Dpen the AMC Control (anel b clic&ing Start > Settings > Control Panel > Axis Media Control. 4epending on which camera ou are using! ou will have either some or all of the following tabs shown in the figure below.
Note: I6 yo$ are $sing a simpler 0xis -amera, not all o6 t)e ta/s s)own /elow will /e visi/le. .ersions shows the software that has been installed to use with AMC and our Axis camera together with its version number. The figure above shows version information about M=C(%<! M(%< and audio components. Timeout is the maximum time /seconds0 that AMC will attempt to connect to an Axis product before displa ing an error message. The maximum timeout is AAA seconds' the default is 28 seconds.

econnection Strateg0
If for an reason AMC looses its connection with our Axis camera! a Reconnection Strateg- can be used to set up a reconnection schedule. The default strateg is for AMC to tr to reconnect to the camera ever 53 seconds for 8 minutes. If AMC is not able to reconnect to our camera within 8 minutes! an error message will pop up telling ou that AMC was not able to reconnect to the camera. If ou still want AMC to &eep tr ing to reconnect to our camera! ou can also set up a second and even a third period of time. If ou want AMC to &eep tr ing indefinitel to reconnect to our camera! clic& the in3inite box.

Multicast 2et$or1 Inter3ace


The Multicast Betwor& Interface is the interface that AMC will use to connect to the multicast stream sent from the Axis camera or video server. *indows will use the default interface /see the figure above0! unless ou specif a specific interface listed in the drop down menu IP address o3 multicast inter3ace.

+or example! a specific I( address can be selected if the multicast stream sent from the networ& camera or video server is not visible. Dr! if ou have more than one networ& interface! ou can select which networ& interface AMC will use to connect to the multicast stream sent from the Axis camera or video server listed.

MPEG-4 connection order


AMC will use one of the protocols listed above depending on our networ& environment. It will tr each protocol in the order ou specif and use the one that wor&s best. The default setting is shown in the figure above! but ou can either deselect a protocol or change the order AMC uses to select a protocol! b highlighting a protocol and clic&ing Move U! and Move "o/n.

Specif the recording folder where recordings will be stored when the recording button is clic&ed. The default recording folder is M- "ocuments'AXIS Media Control 4 Recordings. This folder will be created if it does not alread exist. If ou want to save our recording to another folder! simpl clic& on the 0ro/se button and choose the folder ou would li&e to use to save our recording. If ou have not alread installed *indows Media +ormat -untime /*M+-0! see Installing *indows Media +ormat -untime below.

It is also possible to specif the form of feedbac& given when ma&ing a recording. 5 en a recording as 3inis ed 4 *indows can notif ou that our recording is either complete or failed via a message! or via one of its s stem sounds /See Assign sounds to program events in our MS Help and Support files0. If ou select S o/ an error message! s stem sound notification will be turned off. Fou can also select if ou want the recording folder to open up in the bac&ground for )uic&er access to our recordings! and for an on screen message to appear when a recording is being made. S o/ an error message I If ou would li&e to be notified of an error with our recording via a message on the Eive .iew page! select this option. See the figure below for an example.

Fou can select to not record audio! and to limit the amount of time of our recording. Choose Sto! recording a3ter and set the number of minutes! or seconds for our recording. Dr to conserve storage space! ou can limit our recording to a specific siGe measured in megab tes.

If ou have not alread installed *M+-! ou will not be able to record and the -ecording tab will appear as the example below. To install *M+-! simpl follow the instructions in the -ecording tab as shown in the example below.

Specif the snapshot folder where snapshot images will be stored /when the Snapshot button is clic&ed0. The default snapshot folder is M- "ocuments'AXIS Media Control + Sna!s ots. This folder will be created if it does not alread exist. If ou want to save our snapshot to another folder! simpl clic& on the 0ro/se button and choose the folder ou would li&e to use to save our snapshot.

The Audio Tab controls the default AMC start settings for our (C1s spea&ers and microphone and audio buffering. Bote that an changes ou ma&e in this tab will onl ta&e effect after ou either restart AMC! or ou refresh the web page showing our Axis camera /Clic& .ie/ > Re3res 0.

Start Settings
Mute s!eakers I Turn off the sound from our (C1s spea&ers. Mute micro! one I Turn off the sound from our (C1s microphone. Audio bu33ering I The audio buffer siGe can be adJusted from min to max depending on the )ualit of our networ& connection. +or networ&s with lower bandwidth! a higher audio buffering level will reduce audio brea&=up! but ma introduce a noticeable lag in audio transmission. The default value is minimum /Min0! which assumes an internal networ& or a networ& with good bandwidth.

Pus +to+talk I If ou have configured ou Axis camera to be in half duplex mode! select this option to spea& b clic&ing and holding down the microphone button. Eet go of the microphone button to be able to hear. 1oggle + Clic& once to tal& and clic& once to listen. Bote that this option is onl valid in half duplex mode and in Simplex = spea&er onl modes. In Simplex = mode! ou switch between tal& and secrec /i.e.! no audio is transmitted0.

This tab sets the advanced properties for M(%<=5 video processing and default video decoder. Changes to the video processing properties will not ta&e effect on media streams being displa ed until the stream is restarted.

4e=interlacing helps eliminate unwanted image effects when viewing rapidl moving obJects if ou use an Axis video server or 4ome camera that uses interlaced displa ! but not if ou use a video server or 4ome camera that uses progressive displa . The default is to not appl de=interlacing. B default! AXIS Media Control decodes as man M(%<=5 video frames as possible given the capabilities and performance of the computer. To decrease the amount of C($ capacit used for video processing! it is possible to onl decode I or I and ( frames. This will! however! greatl reduce the )ualit of the video being displa ed. Dnl displa ing I frames has the lowest performance#)ualit ratio. +or an explanation of different t pes of M(%< frames! please refer to the M(%< standards.

De3ault )ideo Decoder


The M(%<=5 video decoder can be used to view standard M(%<=5 streams and files produced b other sources. This decoder ma ! however! conflict with other M(%<=5 applications alread installed in the target computer! e.g.! 4.4 pla er software. $se the buttons on this tab to attempt to resolve conflicts! or to set this decoder as the default for viewing M(%<=5 video content.

+or M(%<=7! a new video renderer has been added with the introduction of 4irectX A. If problems are encountered when rendering the date or text overla on the video! select the Use Advanced .ideo Rendering chec& box. This feature will also need to be enabled if ou want to use client side overla s in emulated Jo stic& mode with M(%<=7. B default! AXIS Media Control decodes as man M(%<=7 video frames as possible given the capabilities and performance of the computer. To decrease the amount of C($ capacit used for video processing! it is possible to onl decode I or I and ( frames. This will! however! greatl reduce the )ualit of the video being displa ed. Pan Sensitivit- I Controls the horiGontal /left#right0 sensitivit of our Jo stic&. At low sensitivit ! maximum speed is achieved b moving the Jo stic& arm far to the left or right. At high sensitivit ! maximum speed is achieved b moving the Jo stic& arm ver little to the left or right. 1ilt Sensitivit- I $se the Tilt Sensitivit scale to adJust vertical /up#down0 sensitivit of our Jo stic&. At low sensitivit ! maximum speed is achieved b moving the Jo stic& arm far up or down. At high sensitivit ! maximum speed is achieved b moving the Jo stic& arm ver little up or down. Acceleration I At low acceleration! the camera turns at a speed relative to how far ou move the Jo stic& in an direction. If ou move the Jo stic& far to one side! the camera will turn )uic&l to that side. High acceleration causes the Jo stic& to move faster the further ou move the Jo stic& arm in an direction.

Selected 6o-stick I If ou have more than one Jo stic& attached to our computer! use this drop down menu to select which Jo stic& ou want to use with our Axis (T@ camera. (li! 1ilt Axis I The default setting for AMC is for the camera to tilt up if ou pull our Jo stic& arm bac&wards! and tilt down if ou push our Jo stic& arm forward.

Chec& (li! 1ilt Axis if ou would li&e to reverse how our camera tilts. In other words! the camera will now tilt down if ou pull the Jo stic& arm bac&wards and tilt up if ou push our Jo stic& arm forward. Calibrate I Clic& Calibrate to open the *ame Controllers window located in the MS *indows control panel! which is used to configure game controllers located on the s stem. See the MS *indows help files for more information. Con3igure 0uttons I Clic& on Con3igure 0uttons to bring up the Con3igure 0utton Menu. Four Axis Jo stic& has 25 buttons that can each be programmed to perform one of several different functions. See Co stic& button configuration below for more information.

Set AMC to start in %mulated Co stic& Mode instead of the default Center Mode. Select "isable *ra! ical $verla-s to hide the graphical overla s that normall appear in the image when viewing our camera on the Eive .iew *eb page.

Base

An optional device that can be used with AMC is the AXIS 5A8 Surveillance Co stic&. It is specificall designed for responsive and accurate control of (an#tilt#Goom /(T@0 and dome cameras. This Jo stic& has 5 configurable buttons on its arm and 23 configurable buttons on its base. *hile viewing the Eive .iew image of our camera in our browser! ou can move the Jo stic& arm left#right and forwards#bac&wards to pan the camera to different positions. The Jo stic& arm can also be turned cloc&wise to Goom the camera in on an image and counter cloc&wise to Goom the camera out from an image. +or more information see Co stic& Settings.
